POSTGAME: QF vs Collingwood
He did early on but we were hampered by 6-6-6 and then switched to a defensive focus because we would obliterate the bottom teams but couldn't go with the top teams. You can't argue with the results, maybe we've sacrificed too much offensively but again I think it comes down to personnel. If Petty plays forward, if Weideman comes on, if Hogan fulfilled his potential etc etc When Hogan left we had the choice to trade for May or use the pick on King. Can you imagine our defence without May? We don't win the 21 flag that's for sure. I'm confident in a Petty/JVR/Fritsch/Pickett combo moving forward but Petty has had trouble staying on the park recently and JVR is still raw. We would love another KPF but who? They don't grow on trees, yeah we could've gone after McStay possibly but there hasn't been much else for the simple fact that teams who have good kpf do everything they can to hang on to them.

I think it's personnel. If we had Petty instead of TMac up forward tonight I think we win. I don't think Goodwin is coaching the players to deliver the ball inside 50 the way they are. Yeah we play a forward half game and want to get repeat entries which crowds out forward line. I think we need coaching in forward craft - but a more mobile forward like Petty creates space and gives us options. One thing I will say is I never really thought we were out of it. I am still proud of the team even if disappointed in the loss and the execution. It felt a lot like the Carlton game, we just needed one of our 50/50 chances to go through but everything felt against us tonight. One thing I will say on the coaching is I thought they could've tried putting Pickett into the middle for a couple of CBAs and get Trac up forward for a bit. But we are severely limited in our personnel inside 50 and it has completely hamstrung us.

When you jump in the air you have two choices - brace and smash through your opponent or try and limit the impact on the opponent by deflecting/absorbing some of the force. No he could not have avoided contact altogether. Yes he could've avoided concussing Brayshaw. I think he will get off but he shouldn't. The AFL is a joke when it comes to these kinds of things, they look at the outcome they desire and work backwards. Call it the Barry Hall/Trent Cotchin rule.

I dunno, I can't put the blame on Goodwin. This was down to execution. If Fritsch nails those two easy (for him) set shots we win. Pickett misses two easy snaps, Petracca hits the post etc etc We controlled the game for longer than they did just could not convert. Joel Smith was our most dangerous forward and props to him but that's not gonna win you a flag.

Yep, the Pies were rattled. Had Fritsch converted that regulation shot in the last we win running away. Just far too many easy shots missed. +32(?) inside 50s +22 expected score 9.6 vs 7.11 Kicked ourselves out of it. After the pathetic start to get game we controlled things for 2.5 quarters but just could not convert our dominance onto the scoreboard. Our players panicked instead of hitting up targets they just bombed away. Max trying to snag one from 55 didn't lead by example but he was immense around the ground so I can't really have a crack at him. We had players free at times and kicked over their heads to contests. Complete opposite of the Brisbane game where we took our time, we only needed 2 goals with plenty of time left but just reverted to the bomb and no-one was taking contested marks inside 50. Extremely frustrating game but I take comfort in knowing the Pies will not win the flag.

Bloody hell I had the virus that's going around last week and it wasn't fun! Still getting over it 2 weeks after first symptoms so I sympathise with those who have copped it - I don't think I wouldve made it if the game was last Thursday.- PREGAME: QF vs Collingwood

My brother in law wouldn't know much about footy, he's a diehard NBA person but got a corporate ticket to the 2016 GF. It's a hangover from when the AFL owned their own ground, VFL Park (Waverley). VFL Membership was effectively a VFL Park membership which I think also had access to finals. The VFL's aim was to one day have all finals including the GF at VFL Park. Much fewer people were members back then obviously. When the Southern Stand was built in 1991 and it was clear the MCG would be the home of football moving forward the AFL agreed to help fund it as long as they got the AFL members reserve for their members. Considering the MCG now makes the overwhelming majority of its money from football it is unlikely this will change anytime soon especially with the southern stand due for a renovation in a few years. Full AFL membership is around $640 a year x 30k members plus an additional 25k silver members who pay around $470 a year give or take. Around $150 from each membership goes to the nominated club of support making an AFL member a GA member of their club. Then you have guest passes, reserve seat fees etc and you can see the AFL make a mint off the AFL memberships. - TICKETING: 2023 Finals Week 01
