If we're going to keep Bowey, Salem and McVee in defence then we should be relying on their kicking skills to pick those kicks off into the corridor. Otherwise shift one of them forward of the ball and give us some better looks going inside 50.

For the 1st 3 quarters we were sitting in the AFL members surrounded by Lions fans and a lot of empty seats and it was a garbage atmosphere over there. At 3/4 time we walked around and snuck into some empty seats in the MFC reserve right next to the MCC fence and the atmosphere was fantastic. Sitting among Melbourne supporters, not feeling like you're one voice screaming into the void was just electric in the last 5 minutes. I'm gonna have to figure out how to get seats in the northern stand because I've had enough of sitting amongst opposition supporters every week feeling like every game is an away game (even against interstate teams!)

How much better do we look when we use the corridor? Playing around the flanks and boundary makes us look slow because our ball movement is slow, it makes the delivery into the forward line predictable and easy to defend and it makes our forward line congested because the fat side is dead so all players gravitate across to the pocket. Use the corridor and open up the field by using angles to move the ball and you look a much better team and much easier for the forwards to manufacture goals.

Electric head, in your head, in you 🤘

What will Fagan say this time? Allowing Melbourne to play four full quarters gave them an "unfair advantage"?

Viney has been our best player this year I reckon. Always there when the whips are cracking. I wanted Melksham subbed out for Smith, what would I know? Haha Fantastic win, I hope it gives them some belief to go on with over the next month.

We tried that once already

I didn't say I wasn't happy to win. He asked what's the point if the only joy you get is from flags - I respondes by saying if you're not winning flags then what's the point? I was happy to win last night but watching us I still have concerns that we will push the best teams this year in September. I was happy to win but I'm not doing cartwheels over that game, there are degrees of enjoyment. If I could see we were on the way to a flag I would be far more satisfied but I see serious issues with the way we're playing which frustrate me as a supporter. I'm not [censored] on anyone happy with the win, if they find joy in it then good for them. I'm just saying while good to win I'm tempering my expectations because we haven't shown that we can be good enough for long enough on many occasions in the last 18 months. We're also getting closer to the pointy end, after the Suns game I was happy to get the 4 points and move on but now we need to start putting some good form together as well as banking points. Defensively we're pretty sound but our ball movement and forward craft still worries me.

He needs to just play his role instead of doing too much. Stop grabbing it out of the centre bounce ruck, he always gets caught or kick smothered because he's too slow getting it to boot. Either punch it forward out of the ruck or handball to one of our mids to clear it. Stop grabbing it out of the ruck in the forward line, you're not Tom Hawkins - even if he does get his boot to it it's never going through for a goal. Stop being the last link up man to kick inside 50, hand it off to one of our runners to make that pass (Salem, Bowey, McVee, Spargo etc). Just play your role Max, I feel like he's trying to do too much to "lead" the team but it's counter productive. If he just played his role it would be far more effective.

5) when we get possession along the boundary side of the centre square we always look to handball outside and play against the boundary instead of switching inside and opening up the ground for our forward line. It's boring football and does not play to our strengths, making it difficult to score.

If you're not winning flags what's the point? This isn't an up and coming team where you can try to find the positives, we are smack bang in the middle of the premiership window and we are playing like also rans. Good to get the win of course but the way we're playing still worries me. Losses to Cats and GWS let a lot of air out of the tyres after the great win against the Pies, they'll need to do more than just get past an undermanned Saints side to win back that trust, starting with the Lions on Friday.

Glad I stayed home

Great goal Melksham, he's a terrific kick for goal from an angle
-
100%. Neither are good resting forward, Grundy can't mark around the ground. It just robs us of another runner or flexible tall.

The fact it's this close is pathetic. If we manage to lose this everyone at the club should be under the hammer. Everyone.

May ❤️ Viney 💙

Are we allergic to the corridor? Wtf is going on
-
-
Why are we playing aroubd the big dart, what happened to playing the corridor like we were in preseason
-
Why is Gus dragging his player into our 50? Stay out of there and leave it open FFS (in sure he's not the only one but just saw it and using it as an example - no wonder our forward line is always so congested).
-
He's looked so slow hasn't he? What's going on
-
He tries to do too much instead of just playing his role.
-
Pickett needs to get going. 1 touch so far! He's often around the ball but not at the ball, get in there and get the footy.
-
Yeah we are in trouble, you haven't watched us the last month?

The selection committee have lost the plot. Where the hell is JVR? Who is going to kick our goals? I'm not too concerned with the other changes but they had to recall JVR, that's a shocking decision.
