  1. Well, he's barely played this season. I don't even remember him playing, but someone on here said he played Round 1. Anywho, last year, we were an absolute wreck. We had no one to kick too, we seemingly lacked direction. I think you've got to give him at least one more year. If he'd turned the ball over all season in '09 I would be questioning his spot on the list, but as things stand, he hasn't had enough chance to prove himself, IMO.
  2. Who's to say we need a classical key forward? The game is constantly evolving, our versitile forwardline of Jurrah, Watts and Bate, may just be the next evolution of forwardline.
  3. Scully'll get 9, Trengove will probably get 13, providing we pick him. This thread has become the take Panos with our third pick, thread and I tell you what, I like it. The more I think about it, the more I think we can't pass him up, should he fall to pick 18.
  4. I completely understand why it's only a two year deal, but I would have liked it to be more.
  5. It bothers me a little bit HT, but at least he's signed on. I would have preferred 3 or 4, but over the next two years, hopefully he'll prove to the club that he's worth a four year deal.
  6. Whopper might be available, but he won't play, having missed two or three weeks of any kind of football, let alone AFl standard. If he plays again this season, it'll be in rounds 21 and/or 22.
  7. If there was a forward rated as highly as Scully is in the midfield, I doubt we'd be so heavily on the Trengove bandwagon, but the fact there aren't stand out KPFs is a major reason for this being a non-issue. All of that said, KPPs usually take longer to develop. There might be a late bloomer in this bunch. I'd say they're built around dominant centrelines. Without one, the ball doesn't get there and if the delivery is spot on, it makes any forwards job easier. Plus, a dominant midfield kicks goals. I don't deny this, however. A Panos type would be nice. I'd probably settle with Butcher too, ultimately. Except good skills. He can win the hard ball and has good skills. We have a lot that can win the hard ball (occasionally), with the likes of McLean, Moloney and Jones, but none are elite by foot or hand. McLean's kicking this year is some of the worst I've seen. This is what Trengove would bring us, class in spades. Fair point and that's why I don't exactly envy BP's task. Particularly, with the majority of the supporter base hoping for the picks to the degree that they actually support the team losing a few games...if he doesn't deliver...well...ouch. Pressure time!
  8. Could he fall to our fourth pick?
  9. I think drafting Butcher just 'because we need a full forward' is probably one of the riskiest things we could do. Just because he might be the best KPP in this draft, doesn't mean he'll solve our problems. Tapscott (spelling?) and Panos seem like the types to be successful at AFL level, it's hard to say with Butcher. Then again, I have a limited knowledge. I'll trust BP to make the right decision, but if we go into the draft simply looking to draft the best KP prospect, we might get ourselves into a bit of trouble. Midfield is clearly the area we need the most strengthening (if not a total reshape). Therefore, they should really pick Trengove and Scully. With our forwardline, it's too early to tell. None of them have played in the same team together over a sustained period (Bate, Aussie, Watts and Jurrah). Give them time and add a Panos and we may just have a forwardline to win us a premiership. But let's be honest here, it's all won in the midfield. Please pick Scully and Trengove.
  10. Well said, IMT. It's been said before, but very exciting times ahead.
  11. If that were the draft, it'd mean we could take Panos, with our third pick. I'd be very happy with that.
  12. Bruce and Green fitting into the Carlton midfield...you're joking right? And David Hale...really?
  13. Good boy, Morty. But he's still just saying what the players are naturally going too. I want his contract negoiations cleared up.
  14. Where were you on Sunday, gOLLy? He drilled a 45 metre pass, low and hard down one of our forwards throats (Newton was it?). Jones can be extremely frustrating, but I think we continue with him.
  15. Yep, another very solid game for Colin. Some of his link up play when he moved into the middle was extremely impressive as well. He proved yesterday that he can play anywhere, which would please Dean Bailey to no end. He's developing a lot of these types (Morton and Davey are another two that spring to mind). The beauty of Sylvia is that he could just about play on a key position back, which his body strength and strong hands. As I mentioned somewhere else, we basically played our midfield in defense, for large parts of the game.
  16. I thought our kicking yesterday, particularly in the first half (and minus a few here and there) was the best it's been since 2006, hands down. Sylvia, Morton, Dunn, even Macca and Jones were kicking it beautifully yesterday. Jetta is also a very good kick. Okay, so Johno kicked a couple of floaters and Spencer's kicking could be improved, but if you've watched the majority of games over the last two to three seasons, you'll realise, we've actually come quite a way with our field kicking. That said, there's still a lot of room for improvement and consistency.
  17. They weren't too bad yesterday, IMO. It's not saying much, but Johnson probably played his best game for the season and unlike the last few weeks, he actually attacked the ball. As for Newton, his defensive pressure and kicking at times, was good.
  18. Yeah, Bate-a was good again today. He demonstrated he can win the ball in the midfield, up forward and even across half back. Bailey is developing a very flexible squad, which may well pay off some day. Sylvia was also solid for the majority of the game. How was his 50-55 metre pass on the outside of his foot, hitting his team mate lace out on the chest? Except for his one memorable turn over, Morton was also exciting. His link up play with Colin, a couple of times was a glimpse into the future.
  19. If they don't sign him up now, you never know, GC might well lure him away. Particulary, when some player agents are more concerned about getting the best investment for themselves, rather than getting a deal in their clients best interests. If we offer him a long term contract, that's saying, 'we value your services, Cale'. If we don't, it's saying, 'well, we don't want to committ to you just yet'. Under normal circumstances, I'd say leave it another year, before offering him a big contract, but with the spectre of GC looming, I'm getting a little touchy underneath the collar.
  20. I'm not sure if this has been mentioned (probably in the matchday thread), but I thought for the first time today, Martin actually looked like a full forward. It looked as though someone had taught him how to kick properly. Admittedly, he didn't kick them all beautifully, but his first shot on goal, was easily the nicest kick I've seen from him. He looked promising today. Throw, Jurrah, Watts and Aussie at his feet and who knows. I was hoping with today's side, Bailey would push everyone up to the 50 and flanks and clear out the 50, leaving Martin one out. Unfortunately, not to be. Perhaps, next week?
  21. What I meant was he might slip through to the PSD. You never know, more of a pipe dream, but if it did we could make him captain and get him for basically nothing.
  22. So if McMahon had missed on the siren last week, we wouldn't have been tanking?
  23. That's a good thing, IMO. Gambling is going to become an even greater social issue come 2020, with the way the gamble money has snuck into the AFL over the past year. Every club seems to be sponsored by a betting agency. I find it intolerable.
  24. I'd take Hawthorn over Essendon. I couldn't think of a nicer bunch of supporters having to suffer...As Jimmy Hird said, they haven't made the finals since '04. Was that the year they knocked us out in the elimination final? Since then, nothing. We've been there twice sionce '04...Essendon=the new Richmond? The jumpers are similar. St Kilda were completely entitled to rest players, funny they won too.
  25. Freo aren't that good. I watched their game...they just encountered a Port side, similar to the one we encountered. Today we were playing without our future forwardline (Watts, Jurrah and Aussie) and without 3 of our top 4 best defenders. Our backline instead was chocked full of midfielders and our forwardline included Miller and Newton, two which may not make it. If we play players in their more traditional positions next week, which I don't think we will necessarily, we'll be a far superior side to the one we fielded today. I wouldn't put it past us to beat Freo. Still, I'd rather beat Carlton...my Carlton mate is giving me the shits. About time someone put them back in their box.
