  1. You're right in saying Warnock and Rivers play different type roles. Rivers is one of the best floating half backs in the game, peeling off his man to help spoil other opposition forward. Whereas, Warnock is more your traditional full back/centre half back. I think they're both important to the structure down there. Garland can match it with the quicker forwards, like Roughead and Franklin, while Warnock is better suited to the power forward types (ala Jonathan Brown). Then, Frawley can play on the Lloyd's, Fevola's, but also on the Brad Johnson's. I think we have a very diverse backline, shaping up. Bennell is the quickest player I've ever seen, when he goes full tilt at a contest and therefore could match it with the likes of Leon Davis and Cyril Rioli. Lots to look forward too and the beauty is they're all young.
  2. Garland reminds me of Dustin Fletcher, except quicker. He has the skinny frame, but is able to consistently get fists in to spoil.
  3. Yeah, I agree with you, HT. Even some of our "untouchables" wouldn't net a first round pick. This whole trade/draft period promises to be fascinating.
  4. And by shopping around you mean trading their first round picks for established talent, HT? I suppose it makes a tiny bit of sense, with the compromised drafts coming up and the shallowness of this draft.
  5. I wouldn't mind putting money on Scully getting #9 though. And I'm not a betting man. That said...it hadn't occured to me that Wheatley holds #31 and Scully wears #32, so perhaps he will get 31?
  6. A few people seem to be forgetting Garland...not even a mention. He was easily our best defender last year and although Frawley has come along, I'm still not sure if he compares with Colin. Garland probably has more upside too.
  7. Alright, so we're all going on about how shallow the draft is and how we probably won't use our fifth pick (in the 50s). Why the heck would another team give us their second best pick in a shallow draft, for a pick in the 50s? It doesn't make sense. On another note, I know a couple of people have criticised our lop sided trade ideas, but sheesh, this thread seems to be a hot pool for completely unrealistic trade hypotheticals. No one would ever take Bell and/or Newton. It's becoming increasingly frustrating, reading these threads and coming across ridiculous trade ideas. I'm sorry to vent, but it's beginning to give me the shits.
  8. I'm not forming any concrete views. I don't claim to know much about him at all, I was just going on that footage I saw. He moved well and won a lot of the footy, but barely hit any of his targets. That just worries me a little bit. Particularly watching Scully kick the ball and his accuracy. From what I have seen of Scully, his right foot is probably of the same standard as both of Morabito's. But as I say, I'm only going on a small bit of footage, perhaps Morabito hits targets more regularly in other games? The reason I'm even bothering to point out his foot skills, is because elite footpassing is something that we desperately need and I crave. It would worry me to think we're picking someone at #2, not late 1st round or early second round, but #2, who doesn't use the football like an elite player, but just has X-factor potential.
  9. Personally, I've come across many arrogant St Kilda supporters, hence why I hated them a few years back, but then they've just been pretenders for the past 5 seasons, so I've softened on them. I'd rather them win it than Collingwood or Geelong though.
  10. In no particular order... Jack Watts Colin Sylvia Cale Morton Jack Grimes Liam Jurrah Aaron Davey Matthew Bate Colin Garland James Frawley Aussie Wonaeamirri Apologies to: Matthew Warnock Then hopefully, Scully and Trengove.
  11. Why the heck is Garland in there? He's our best defender, IMO. Oh, and I voted 6 spots.
  12. Yeah, I reckon he'd be a stronger than 50/50 chance to play. Particularly, considering he was an emergency last week.
  13. I think we'll win it. Freo are playing in Melbourne. They may have a reasonable record against us in Melbourne, but ultimately, when they travel outside of Perth they're not a particularly threatening opponent. That said, if Jurrah or Robbo doesn't play, we probably won't win, unless Bate, Sylvia and Petterd kick a few between them.
  14. Without seeing a lot of Morabito, the concerns with his kicking seem well founded. I reckon he hit the target once, in the entire game and even that was only just. The goal that he created for himself and finished was class though. However, Trengove for me.
  15. Lose to Freo and the Saints, but beat the Filth Mark 2, in Carlton.
  16. You haven't mentioned a bloke by the name of Watts. He was an extremely valued draft pick, just as Scully and Trengove would be...Watts was given 4, I can see Scully being given the recently famed #9.
  17. Well, he's barely played this season. I don't even remember him playing, but someone on here said he played Round 1. Anywho, last year, we were an absolute wreck. We had no one to kick too, we seemingly lacked direction. I think you've got to give him at least one more year. If he'd turned the ball over all season in '09 I would be questioning his spot on the list, but as things stand, he hasn't had enough chance to prove himself, IMO.
  18. Who's to say we need a classical key forward? The game is constantly evolving, our versitile forwardline of Jurrah, Watts and Bate, may just be the next evolution of forwardline.
  19. Scully'll get 9, Trengove will probably get 13, providing we pick him. This thread has become the take Panos with our third pick, thread and I tell you what, I like it. The more I think about it, the more I think we can't pass him up, should he fall to pick 18.
  20. I completely understand why it's only a two year deal, but I would have liked it to be more.
  21. It bothers me a little bit HT, but at least he's signed on. I would have preferred 3 or 4, but over the next two years, hopefully he'll prove to the club that he's worth a four year deal.
  22. Whopper might be available, but he won't play, having missed two or three weeks of any kind of football, let alone AFl standard. If he plays again this season, it'll be in rounds 21 and/or 22.
  23. If there was a forward rated as highly as Scully is in the midfield, I doubt we'd be so heavily on the Trengove bandwagon, but the fact there aren't stand out KPFs is a major reason for this being a non-issue. All of that said, KPPs usually take longer to develop. There might be a late bloomer in this bunch. I'd say they're built around dominant centrelines. Without one, the ball doesn't get there and if the delivery is spot on, it makes any forwards job easier. Plus, a dominant midfield kicks goals. I don't deny this, however. A Panos type would be nice. I'd probably settle with Butcher too, ultimately. Except good skills. He can win the hard ball and has good skills. We have a lot that can win the hard ball (occasionally), with the likes of McLean, Moloney and Jones, but none are elite by foot or hand. McLean's kicking this year is some of the worst I've seen. This is what Trengove would bring us, class in spades. Fair point and that's why I don't exactly envy BP's task. Particularly, with the majority of the supporter base hoping for the picks to the degree that they actually support the team losing a few games...if he doesn't deliver...well...ouch. Pressure time!
