  1. No, as I said in my original post, the one thing those players all have in common is that they played/play for Brisbane. What does Brisbane have? A strong club culture. If we build this, I hope it's enough. It has been in those cases.
  2. I watched the replay before and I noticed a couple of interesting observations. They labelled DB as a potentially "great" coach, us being contenders within 2 to 3 years and pick #2. I have to say, I totally disagree with Dennis, which is unusual, because usually I go with his every word. But there is no way I'd pick Sandilands with pick 2 and suspect Dennis wouldn't either. I think he was just playing up the situation.
  3. Hang on, we're not paying our players through an exterior company (ie VISY). Everything we've done is within the rules. They're paying players outside of their salary cap. What's our exterior company? Reach Foundation?
  4. Only Rivers out of those is a top liner who would have any value in his own state. He is one example that I tell myself, will hopefully mirror Trengove. As for the others, none of them would get a game for clubs in their state (with apparently the exception of Walsh, who we traded to Port) and Ingerson came to us having played for Adelaide. We were simply the only way his career was to continue. Whereas, someone like Trengove, who has such a bright future, both Adelaide clubs would love to lure him, so I'm not sure it's the same thing. As for Pavlich, there are rumours he'll go back after next season. So as I said, if all these rumours are true, then there is reason to be wary. That said, I hope you're right.
  5. Hmm, the thing about this is, how close are he and his Dad? Anywho, I read this on Demonland too, but still have some worries.
  6. Interesting, Trengove and Tapscott are best mates. If Tapscott slipped down the pecking order somehow, I wouldn't mind drafting him. Especially, if we get a quality player, who will also keep Jack happy. EDIT: What the heck did I post in this thread for? It's supposed to go in the Trengove thread. Oh well.
  7. Trengove will be an absolute gun and I standby my opinion that we should draft him, but as cynical as this seems, does anyone think we can actually keep him past 2 or 3 seasons? Watching Thompson, play for the Crows today, reminded me of what can happen. Players, also have seemingly become disloyal to clubs that have picked them, by wanting to return home as soon as possible. Reading all the trade threads, if any of the rumours are true about a number of players wishing to return to their home states, then this is becoming increasingly more acceptable. However, at the same time, I watched Gibbs today and I doubt he'll be one wanting to return to SA any time soon, so I suppose Trengove might stick around. We have to make sure we continue to develop a strong club culture, that makes these kids want to stick around. Thoughts?
  8. When are the AFL going to wake up to the blatant cheating? Or are they turning a blind eye, because a strong Carlton means bigger crowds?
  9. That sounds like obvious speculation to me. I didn't see the show, but it's pretty obvious they would stir the pot with Garry on the show.
  10. Colin just needs to develop consistency across the whole year. If he does, I've no doubt he'll be an A grader.
  11. Yeah, there's no point throwing Bell into the trade deal. Just offer a pick and that's it. It's that or they loose him for nothing in the PSD. By the way, just on this, does anyone know if Pearce is contracted?
  12. Oh, just in case I didn't make it clear, I was referring to Brock, not Colin. The latter is currently one of my favourites.
  13. Yeah, I'd play hard ball. We have leverage with PSD 1 and therefore shouldn't give away pick 18. We're in a position of power here, let's not waste it. 34 or nothing, IMO. If Williams wants to play funny buggers with us, like he did Nick Stevens, then we should just say no, but potentially pick him up in the PSD if nothing better comes along.
  14. I think in a good to great side Brock'll be a very damaging player, as the focus obviously won't be on him. He's a keeper, IMO but lacks the damaging qualities of an A grader. Just my opinion, I suppose.
  15. Yeah, I'd prefer to take someone like Pearce at 34 and leave that PSD #1 to an unknown or a Luke Hodge.
  16. I said this last week, but I wouldn't be surprised if we get close against the Saints. My best mate's Dad got us some tickets for the crown box (best seats in the house!) for the St Kilda game on Sunday and they were pathetic. As soon as they ran through the banner, you could tell they were off. If they play in a similar way against us, we may well upset them too! They were only playing the Roos afterall and we'll have the added incentive of playing for our retirees. I expect this one to be within a couple of kicks. Surely, though, you'd St Kilda would have enough to beat us...
  17. The thing about Brock is he's played his best matches against weaker oppositions (a trait of the Dainher era, IMO). If you look at all those top games from Colin, he's done them against the best teams in the comp. Brock has played well against the likes of Freo, West Coast and Port.
  18. Oh and I'd be pretty disappointed if we didn't draft Trengove. As long as we can convince him to stay in Melbourne, pick #2, please. If he was a Melbourne boy, I'm sure more of us would be saying draft him. As things stand, most of us are saying that anyway.
  19. Was it you, DJ&MH that said we were (rumoured to be) sounding out Pearce? I'd be interested in both Boak and Pearce, but the latter would have to string together some consistent football.

Yeah, I noticed this too, RR. I suspect it had something to do with not manning up Gibbs, Murphy or Judd for most of the game...
  21. I know they're mates, but not sure if they're on Facebook.
  22. This is an interesting point, Geddy Lee. I agree, completely. The number of times he and the FD have done exactly what people have been calling for, selection wise, this season has been astounding. You'd always hope for certain things during the Daniher era, but when you do in the Bailey era, they come true! If this 1 year contract extension turns out to be true, it's perfect. Well done, MFC. Let him get down to work next year, not having to worry about whether or not he's keeping his job. It's all very well to rebuild a list, but you also have to get games into the young kids, before judging the coach. Next year, 6 to 8 or even 9 wins is achievable, when you think we could have easily won 6 or 7 this season.
