  1. Provided he's given the chance, Watts will be a gun wingman, floating forward, with an ability to hit the scoreboard. Writing him off already? Jesus Christ. When you consider the time we've given someone like Sylvia...sheesh.
  2. I thought both played their best games for the season today. Both have had very ordinary starts admittedly, but Grimes showed once again his ability to win clearances, while Trenners showed he has class on left and right foot. I still expect a lot more, but it was a better serve from them today.
  3. I reckon dropping Moloney and Sylvia would send a vitally strong message. That [censored] shouldn't be tolerated any more. Bring Couch in and Watts for Sylvia. Done.
  4. I don't think they're necessarily competing for the same spot. Rivers was cooked at the end of last season though. Too slow and not efficient enough by foot.
  5. He needs to learn how to kick for goal though. A very ordinary set shot for goal at best.
  6. I concur re: trades on these guys. BUT only if the deal is right. Sylvia in particular has the ability to be damaging against the very best opposition (he'll play well next week against Hawthorn, if given the chance). It's all mindset. I can't see them getting it right, but perhaps it will click for Sylvia? Don't hold much hope for Moloney though. Their egos are both incredibly bloated, which doesn't help. It means they refuse to take on feedback from coaches and team mates.
  7. Just on this idea of imparting/instilling knowledge to rectifying weaknesses; there's a danger that as a coach you can overload knowledge and then it all becomes ineffective. Perhaps I'm letting the coaching team off here, but I proffer that they've looked at addressing some of the broader issues with the original game plan, rather than looking to address them all at once. There's a lot to be learnt. Pity someone like Neeld didn't take the reigns four years ago.
  8. Not that the decisions impacted the end result, but Geelong had three clear free kicks in front of goal that were howlers. The free kick count today surprised me. I guess it really counts where you get them.
  9. I'd say it might have something to do with his mentor. Although, it's tough to tell from the sidelines.
  10. Two or three pacey players are near worthless, if 16 others out there lack the endurance to play their roles. Leaves holes all over the ground.
  11. Well said. Noted this as another insightful comment from Malthouse. It's getting sucked into contests that makes a lot of our players look slow too. Decision making and discipline with adherance to structures is what's going to lead to improvement. West Coast showed that even with an ordinary list (one that looked pathetic in 2010), if everyone plays team football and plays their roles, you win more games than you loose.
  12. Garland is not slow...neither is Trenners. Lacks endurance.
  13. Shirked once today. Needs to eradicate that from his game, but has vastly improved his attack on the ball. His tackle on the edge of the centre square at one point was greatly encouraging.
  14. Cannot recall a game where he's been standout against good opposition. Particularly when we don't play at the 'G. His mentality is systematic of a pea-hearted culture that has been allowed to fester. Fortunately, Davey seems to be making some strides away from this.
  15. I would have thought Martin's basketballing background would be perfect the zonal like structures of the modern game. I'd point to his lack of natural footballing nous that catches him out at times. Being in front, where to run and gather etc.
  16. Trenners was decent today. Couple of lovely passes and second in the possession count for us (PS - it was great to see our two co captains and Clark as the leading ball winners). I think he's had an incredibly ordinary start to the season, but hopefully he's turned a corner today. He's great by both feet, under pressure.
  17. It's frustrating I agree. But an element of it has to be directed at our lack of line breakers. A Judd would love Jamar's service. He'd be quick to it and we'd don't have any of those. Having said all that, it appears from the sidelines that our rucking situation and our set up at stoppages requires further work. It can't help with our poor level of endurance though.
  18. It's not about slowness necessarily, although Moloney certainly lacks pace. It's about muscular power and endurance. Get that and all of a sudden, even the most ordinary list can compete at a high level. It means structures hold up. I thought the only decent commentator on the TV was Malthouse. He mentioned this lack of fitness effectively, when noting our deficiency in leg power. Moloney is a large offender when it comes to accountability though. When you play a jigsaw puzzle like the press, with stringent structures, even one player can throw an entire team of 18 off kilter.
  19. Showed great signs in 2009 too. I hope he keeps on improving, because I believe he definitely has something to offer, if he can become a physical player and better spreader.
  20. We've got too many whose first instinct is to handball, rather than kick. If they were handballing to a player in space, that'd be alright. But alas, McKenzie (who I'm a big rap for) and Jamar are far too predictable when they have it.
  21. Not quick enough or smart enough to play regular FF, Jamar. In the modern game you need to be able to keep the ball inside your own forward 50. I'd definitely be playing Martin next week though. Miles ahead of Sellar. That said, I think if Sellar has a position, it'd be down back and now probably cemented by a vastly improving Tom Macdonald. In essence, he now doesn't have a position. Bring Martin back in, even if he did struggle earlier on this season. Martin occasionally plays in front, I cannot recall a time Sellar did today.
  22. I agree. He's the one always pointing at everyone to get into position, but never runs the other way himself. Lazy little [censored].
  23. As I posted on my Facebook... Alright, MFC supporters. Once we get our players somewhere near elite fitness (like every other club), rid the list of lazy, unaccountable front-runners (specifically Moloney and Sylvia), then we'll be competing for the 8. The structures are beginning to show signs of progress. The likes of Tom Macdonald improving (off giving Riewoldt a bath last week), Frawley and Garland in AA form again, a dominating Mitch Clark with LJ to come back - it doesn't look so gloomy. Once we inject some pace around Jones and Magner (this would include Blease off half back or a wing and three top draft picks for next draft), play Watts on a wing, floating forward and a hungry Stef Martin next to Clark, and all of a sudden you're not that far off. Keep the faith. Neeld and his FD know what they're doing. Go red legs.
  24. Moloney is lazy and unaccountable. Really glad we didn't make him captain. Sylvia is also lazy and never been a leader. Frawley, Clark and Jones have really shown something though.
  25. Midfielders in the draft. You don't waste high picks on ruckmen. You can get fantastic ruckmen from the Rookie draft. Mids, mids, mids, small forward.
