There are certain Topics on this Forum that are not allowed to be discussed, as you well know

The upcoming Court Case will discuss a lot of it, i have no doubt

It might be avoided altogether if we get our broom out and sweep out the board room. At least those expected to feature.

Call me a cynic but Caro's piece on Monday was a massive tonal shift from the line the club has gone with over the past 12 months.

That info felt like it came straight from the board and probably Roffey herself.

One week ago there was no chance of an independent review, our issues were just isolated incidents, best culture in 40 years etc. By Monday the club was strongly considering a review and Roffey was planning her exit. Only after the conclusion of the mess of the last few weeks did we learn of the Steve Smith approach and the possibility that he may be the club's next president. It's all a bit convenient.

That being said at the end of the day I'm not really fussed if the right outcome is reached.

This is the board's MO though. They tap people on the shoulder when board terms are expiring and install new faces just prior to elections and then the president comes out and tells the members who to vote for.

Because he's not exactly what we need.

Our prime targets this off season should be midfield talent and depth. With pick 5 you're getting a potential 12-15 year player instead of a 29 year old half back flanker.

He's good, but he's still not worth pick 5 imo and that's exactly what Port will ask for.

I agree that we shouldn't give up pick 5 for DH, but it's disingenuous to label him a "half back flanker".

He played midfield prior to Butters and Rozee taking over at Port.

He'd play midfield and half back with us. ie the Gus role. But unlike Gus, he's an elite kick.

There is a certain Court Case that could do exactly the same thing, so it may well be worth doing the external review, before that happens…

And rid elements that could cause the club and board to lose focus on being the best we can be in 2025.

I'm not against an external review

but don't kid yourselves the external "independent" reviews are the be all and end.

the terms of reference (which you will probably never know) are absolutely key here

most organisations who open themselves up to a review like to carefully curate the process, set the limits and importantly pay the reviewer who operates under conditions of privacy including the findings.

we've all seen plenty of political reviews/inquiries/whatever where the end result was predetermined or at least managed.

so, have a review but don't get your expectations unrealistically high

That's fine. Like the Trac stuff should have been, the results of the external review should be kept in house...

The players will be fine. They are professionals and don't look at things with the same eyes that supporters do. Players explore their value on their market all the time, this one just got a bit out of control. Once pre-season starts it will be water under the bridge and if it leads to the meaningful change that a lot of the players seem to be expressing a desire for then they will probably be even happier for it.

I'm not convinced by this. Some players maybe, but others would struggle. It's natural. It's a trust issue.

I'm not sure how we go about being a team-first, 2021 style playing group after this. We just have to hope that Goody, the leadership group and hopefully a new head of footy and a new coach or two can scaffold the playing group the right way.

Really hope Dees grab the pick 25 off the Crows. Likely try to pickup Cooper Hynes from the Stingrays.  Hes got that burst of speed, toughness and great goal sense. Perfect across half forward and rotate through midfield.

Problem is I don't think Hynes will be there at pick 25. Reckon he'll go top 20.

  7. This might be a bit of a hail mary this thread given as it stands, we don't have another first round pick in 2024. However, I wanted to give this guy a thread of his own for discussion. I really like his x factor and physicality. He's a very JT type player IMV.

190cm mid/forward who plays alongside Harvey Langford and Riak Andrew at Dandy Stingrays.

To me he's got a bit of Chad Warner's burst of power and physicality from stoppage and even Jack Steven (of St Kilda and Geelong fame), and if I was being really kind, around goal, he's a bit Stevie J-ish.

Apparently, we've interviewed him, he's expected to go mid to late first round.

Cal's latest phantom form guide has him at 18, so if we can trade up our future first into the first round in 2024, we should be able to nab him.

Here are two glimpses of what he can deliver.

riak andrew's write-up in the rookie me central wildcard summary...

    #5 Riak Andrew
    Tall Defender | 192cm | 17/02/2005

    Stats: 12 disposals, 7 tackles, 3 rebound 50s

Having arguably been bested by Jobe Shanahan in their previous two meetings this year, Andrew faced the daunting task once more and kept Bendigo’s spearhead forward goalless for just the second time. The over-ager stuck tight to his direct opponent and was able to nullify his marking influence when Bendigo had the wind advantage. After some tough moments in term two, one of Andrew’s best moments was a rundown tackle late in the piece to exemplify his effort and intent.

    Definitely pick up Riak.

We might be sitting quite well for talls in 14 months time. Andrew, Ah-Mu and White.

And no, I don't want some nuffy to say "that's if White comes". White will be a Demon.

We are unlikely to get many opportunities to bring in a young player who can be the centrepiece of our future midfield. We have long term talls at each end but we've seen the weakness in our midfield once Clarry and Trac were out of the picture. I would be shocked if we didn't use our early pick to pick up a contested, centre square midfielder to be able to build around.

To this end I think we'll keep 5 and, if anything, we're more likely to trade up than trade down.

Mate, who do you like for our pick, versus who do you think we'll pick if different?

And I completely agree on the above.

@Colm, I was thinking Hynes if we can trade our future 1st for a later first rounder. I reckon Langford or Lalor at our first pick, and then Hynes at that 15-20 mark.

Langford/Lalor and Lindsay would be the dream if we can nab another first rounder

Between them Windsor and Kolt, we will have rejuvenated our younger midfield stocks in two drafts - all would have unique traits from one another too

The one I like is Connor Hynes and someone mentioned we'd interviewed him recently. Big bodied mid that can play forward. He's likely to be there around pick 15ish.

There will likely be some distance between this and the incoming, but she’s now facing unrelenting pressure to step down. Can confirm that Steven Smith has been tapped on the shoulder.

Tapped on the shoulder by whom?

We need major changes on the board, so who's pulling the strings here?

Actually he is not, is it twaddle because you don't agree with his opinion, everybody can have an opinion on here, it won't impact anything.

The players and staff have been told not to read Demonland, apart from the posters the only other readers are journalists and pundits, or click baiters to give them their proper title now.

I find it hilarious that everybody is calling for a review, reviews happen at the end of every season, both from a footy viewpoint and administrative.

And unlike on here, everybody is listened to.

You can't ask the board to review themselves. And I and many others do not trust Pert. And clearly Trac wasn't listened to the first time he voiced his concerns last year.

We need an external review about as much as we need a specific former club president to be reinstated...

... as much as all 17 other AFL clubs need an external review...

... as much as we need Morris back in our comms...

... as much as we need to relocate to the old version of Junction Oval...

... as much as we need Adrian Anderson to represent the next MFC player to appeal a suspension...

... as much as we need the Angry Batmobile to lead the team through the banner at the G each home game...

    Get my drift?

You have to be one of our board members. You've been writing absolute twaddle for pages now.

If there is nothing wrong, an external review would show nothing is wrong.

Why do you not want the entire club to be held accountable?
