It's just using the Van part of his name. However seeing is causing grief I will try to do better in the future. Oh what is your opinion of his ability?

Haha, sorry to be a pedant, OD.

I think he's going to be a star.

He'd be one of the best forwards in the game if he one grabbed more often.

    I'm a big fan. You?

There are a number of issues/reasons our club has a poor social media following

1- Our social media team is non existent. I doubt very much that we have someone dedicated to increasing followers and engagement on social media within our media department. To some, this may seem a frivolous waste of money, but for those of us who work in this space, it is anything but.

2- Our membership and supporter base is skewed older. Unfortunately given our lack of success until 2021, we do not have a lot of followers who fall into the social media age. Take Demonland for example, I reckon most posters here were not exposed to social media in their teens, as it just did not exist to the level it does now

3- We are terrible at promoting our brand. We have plenty of marketable and 'cult hero' players on our list. Gawn, Trac, Kozzie, Rivers, Roo, Kolt are ALL players you could really market. Hell you could get 20,000 teenagers to follow our social media if Rivers and Roo did some sort of semi regular 'thirst trap' posting (tasteful of course!).
Instead we show a lot of 'family club' content, which is lovely for the Facebook users, but has zero cut thru on Instagram and TikTok.

I really hope the board realises how important it is to invest in our social media and communication. We have been so poor in this area, and it's really damaging to our brand and more importantly, it's a massive missed opportunity financially.
Go out and pay an influencer to do some posts, hire a marketing grad to work the social media platforms. Run competitions. The opportunities are endless.

    Vote 1 Jaded.

A later report from Jay Clark says that Pert is going to be overseeing the review, along with Shand and Green.

After Pert’s running commentary on things expect a “nothing to see here” report. Either that or the boot-studders and water-bottle carriers are going to be in big trouble to carry the can.

Surely not? If true, what a joke.

...and as we can see from the dates included....The BOARD under Roffey has had NO strategic plan for the past 12 months, and we still have nothing today.  No wonder the club has no idea where it is going and what it is doing.

    A huge indictment.

It's like the board have been hiding under their desks for 12 months.

Chicken and the egg NC. Nobody is interested in The MFC except us

They've had plenty of time to think strategically about how to entice money out of various interests (state gov, fed gov, local gov etc), and come up with what? Kate had 11 years on the board for this very reason.

Landing the club with $500K in unnecessary costs is a bit more than "stepping out of line".

"Landing the club"? All they needed to do was accept the amendments Peter pushed and they would have saved those costs. Instead they weirdly dragged it through the courts and then accepted the majority of the changes, making the vast majority of the process redundant.

    Completely the board's fault.

That's not their problem at all, they have Newman, Saad and now Docherty back.  Carlton's biggest deficiency is a dynamic small forward.  Owies is a decent player but they need a gun like Kossie, Bobby Hill, Papley, Charlie Cameron, Stengle.  Martin, Durdin, Fantasia, Motlop, Fogarty are just not up to it.

I reckon their system isn't up to it.

Is it really that common? I honestly never noticed this until @old dee posted above.

One of my mates says it, and I've seen it written at least twice in the last fortnight. It's very strange.

    Who’s not at Fault?

I don't think Peter Lawrence is at fault. He merely wanted better governance and has spent years passionately and financially supporting the club. Both AFL and AFLW programs.

By the end of the recent court proceedings, the board had accepted almost all of his requests.

The club did not need to waste time and money, and undermine our brand. All they needed to do was accept the better governance positions in the first place. And weirdly, they didn't.

I agree that a review of the board needs to be independent. But if we have some changes to the board (Stephen Smith as President), then the board should review the Football Department and Administration.

I previously had the view that the review of the FD should be independent, because I feared that Roffey was too close to Pert and Goodwin. Now that she's gone, I'd be comfortable with a review being undertaken by the board if it was overseen by Stephen Smith.

You do realise the board is bigger than Roffey... none of them can be unbiased.

And yet Petracca has a premiership and a Norm Smith medal and Cripps has just lost an elimination final by 10 goals and never played in a GF. He may want to rethink his choices.

They ended up losing by 4 and a bit goals, but your point stands mate.

I don't completely agree with it. I'd much prefer we had the Geelong and then Hawthorn cultures of their dynasties that saw them take unders, so they could continually strengthen their lists.

Sydney Showgrounds Stadium (ENGIE Stadium) What's ENGIE? (rhetorical question as I really don't care)

    Capacity 23,500

Which begs the question, isn't there an obsession with maximising crowds?

And doesn't Cat Park (Kardinia Park) hold 40,000?

I suppose the AFL doesn't want a half empty ground for a final.

With a capacity of 23,500, they're a chance of filling it.
