  1. I used to like City when they were little and non threatening. Now they're a McClub. Like Chel$ea. It's still great seeing them maul United though. Not going to congratulate you though, P. We lost it at Anfield with a Gerrard slip and why the heck didn't Rodgers play for a draw. Idiot. Very happy we put our foot down on that one.
  2. Brand is key to business success. The logo is linked to the brand. We are a business. Now that some of the basics are in place, I'm sure PJ sees this as an important platform to launch a new MFC. Metaphorically, next season we will be a different club. We'll also most importantly be competitive onfield.
  3. Pity you couldn't hand your cross town rivals the title this season.
  4. I've already conceded that Terlich has improved in the last few weeks. He still turns it over too much, but I can see him making strides, however small, they are visible. Haven't seen Grimes improve for many years, but would love anything to hang my hat on, besides blind optimism or faith in the 'captain'. I understand we're not out there, but I think it's a folly to say we're all ball watchers. I know I've said this before, but it's not just his clangers, it's his kicking or handballing (see decision making) that puts his team mates under pressure that is overlooked, IMO. You're right. Some people look at clangers as the be all and end all. It's clearly more complex than that. And you don't win a game with your fist, however brilliant that fist may have been. I'll say it again, the fact that this one moment is consistently lauded as his one shining effort this season is damning.
  5. I thought the exact thing the other day. I'm a little worried about that match up. I think we have to play Garland on him, but I think Tommy Mac will start on him. I wonder whether it would be equally plausible to play Garland forward and throw Frawley back. It'll be an interesting match up and one that certainly worries me. Hopefully Dawes will provide a similar threat at the other end.
  6. Without want to rant here, I feel like this has Schwab's fingerprints all over it. I'm only speculating, but surely the designer would have said, 'you need to focus on a strong central theme'. I remember when they wheeled it out on the club website and they had a little video to explain every aspect. Every element seemed to be as important as the other. That doesn't speak designer to me. That speaks of an executive that doesn't understand design. Anyway, I still think that logo looks classy. I agree. It's linked with our past failures, but I'd like to get away from that really. That said, I loved how Roos was conscious of the 'bloods' nickname and what it stood for. Even if he can something remotely similar with the Demon, I'll be a very happy man. But as you say, M, the connotation of the 'Demon' will change with our performances.
  7. I only criticise your personal attacks on others. I'm sure no one has a problem with you offering your opinion. That's what a messageboard is for. But so often, you take things personally and seem more about defending anyone who is questioned (often legitimately) by a Demonlander, rather than offering an opinion of your own. And I think WYL is frustrated (rightly) by the Club's progress across years and years of failure.
  8. I agree, there isn't. I'd prefer to offer my support for the club by financial means - and no, I'm a filmmaker, so certainly not flushed with cash. I go every week though and pay my membership every year. Not for everyone though, I get it.
  9. It's a discussion forum, mate. People vent on here, but they don't expect the Club to heed anything they post, or at least they shouldn't. It's simply about sharing opinions with fellow supporters. So differences of opinion are important for debate and become stimulating fodder for discussion. Anyway, I hope you're right and there will be even less to take issue with, but I've always been taught that to question isn't to criticise for criticism's sake or even cynicism's sake. It's about keeping people in power honest.
  10. Yeah, you can see Edmund using this now to rub his hands of all responsibility. I think he made it up too, but even if he didn't, he should take some responsibility. It would an argument he mounted, 'backed' by his 'un-named recruiter'. He's never going to take responsibility and admit that he was wrong.
  11. The MFC is a business. IMO, you shouldn't muddy your brand. It should be clear and concise. One emblem, for mine.
  12. I'm glad you've moved on, because your stance last year that nothing was wrong at the club, even though blind Freddie could see there was, proved to be a ridiculous, naive and narrow-minded outlook. And because you have a tendency to howl down others with a different opinion, it was particularly painful for the rest of us.
  13. I'd much rather be called MFC, than the Demons. People call us the Demons all the time or Dees and it's usually in a patronising way. It's rare to hear people refer to us as the MFC. Hopefully more strips like the indigenous strip this year will rectify this. I think we might find that the new MFC emblem is very minimalist with the simple MFC logo, ala the Indigenous jumper. I'd support that change, otherwise I kind of like the current emblem. There's a trident for a reason. That's your symbolism. They don't have to say "Demons".
  14. We have a lot of MCC members that have failed to convert to an MFC member. It costs $65 to become an MCC/MFC member. If you really care, that's the cost of a weekly petrol fill up for most. If you're an MCC member, an extra $65 isn't going to put you out on the streets.
  15. He was never going to get another shot anyway. He couldn't even get an assistants gig.
  16. Pretty sure Evans has another year to run on his contract. So I think he'll get a stay of execution.
  17. I agree. It's getting to the stage, where you'd offer Roos whatever contract number he was willing to name. Without being an hyperbolic [censored], he's an absolute genius.
  18. I'm not convinced they do, TBH. I wonder how much that is a combination of the compromised drafts of the past fourish years and the lack of quality senior coaches at AFL level. We're very lucky to have Roos, but how good are coaches like Richardson, McCartney, Simpson, Brad Scott, Cameron etc. There are a lot of ordinary coaches kicking about, I reckon. You've also got Malthouse, who IMO, was finished two or three years ago. What happens to Hawthorn if Clarkson has to give it away? Chris Scott has had a team that had practically coached itself since he took over. What will he be like when it comes to rebuilding a list? Then you've got FIGJAM over at Collingwood, who has seen failure follow him around since he left Brisbane. I'm not convinced he's got what it takes or the list to win a flag any time soon. The top four coaches (outside of Clarkson) still coaching league footy today, IMO are Lyon (but how long before he moves on and leaves another list decimated?); Bomber (but how much of their inconsistency is down to the spectre of ASADA and how much is down to Bombers' inability to extract consistency from his team?); Longmire (but even his team have been inconsistent during the home and away season, in typical Sydney fashion) and our man Roos. The rest of the coaches helm iffy and/or inconsistent teams. I just hope Roos signs on for more after his third year. EDIT. Oh and there's a bloke called Hinkley too. He'd be up there as well.
  19. In hindsight, perhaps we should have kept his mate, JB too. His pace would be handy off half back at the moment. I remember a game against the Bulldogs where he took a screamer. I watched him sprint 20m at one stage right in front of us. Quickest MFC I can recall playing in my life time. Ah well. His loss. He doesn't get the chance to play under Roos.
  20. Convert one or two of those behinds and we win, IMO, C&B. We simply shot ourselves in the foot at the start of the last.
  21. Realistically, who is pushing him at Casey? No one. He'll stay in this year and either way, Roos would probably persist with him anyway. I think he can be a great reader of the play, but he's got pretty much zero footy smarts with ball in hand. Some of that's confidence, some of that is simply Grimes. But he's got to get it out of his game and bloody quickly. Everyone else is making strides, but the bloke who is supposed to be leading.
  22. Yeah, rubbish weather, but they have a lot of soft supporters. I wonder how those supporters'll go if their form and team dips over the next few years. Hate them as much as Collingwood, Essendon and Carlton. My girlfriend and I have been together almost 7 and a half years and I've been trying to convert her from Hawthorn to Melbourne the entire time. Not going to happen when you win about 7 games in 7 years. Might have a chance in the next few years though. Well, given they have, what, over 50,000 members? It's a deplorable turn around in attendance. I rubbed my hands together when I heard the crowd.
  23. What has changed to make you 'feel' like he's gone? There's absolutely no evidence and if anything, the likelihood of him staying is only increasing by the week. And I think after yesterday's game, it really highlights our lack of quality ball users off half back. We need to invest some time in that area. I'd be looking to nick one of those Hawthorn blokes or look to the draft, which I suspect Roos and co probably will. On top of that, just keep stockpiling good mids. If we can pick up a KPF too, that'd be great, but not necessarily a deal breaker. If you've read many of my posts, you'll know my love for Prestia, but I don't think we'll get him this year. Would love Cameron obviously, but will come at probably too high a price. Yeah, that'd be nice, but that's not why his agent would be telling him to wait it out. He'll get more money at the end of the season, because his agent will be able to leverage interest from opposition clubs to up his price at MFC. I think you'd definitely find Frawley playing in defence, but with a year up his sleeve as an AFL KPF, he'd be able to swing forward whenever we needed him to.
