  1. Are you angling at wanting the MFC to take Duggan for our half back line, spirit? Hypothetically, let's say Roos and co rate the top 10 relatively evenly, we may try to trade one of our top picks for a player and a mid first rounder (ala the Tyson/Salem deal). It is entirely feasible that this could happen and we do require damaging foot skills...
  2. I think we'll only go to the draft if we can't find a suitable trade for our first and/or second pick. Obviously, we'll draft after the first round, but I can see him trading picks all over the place for recycled players. It's what I'd do and given his history, that's what I expect he'll do if the players are out there.
  3. I think Treloar would offer our midfield an element we certainly lack and that's pace. But I'd take both too. :D
  4. Oh and can I have Prestia too, please? :D
  5. Haha, I know the feeling. I want Shiel, Treloar, a KPF in Boyd or Patton and GCS's McKenzie, please.
  6. This is a tricky situation, because I want us to pick the best players. If it means waiting an extra twelve months for a draftee to develop, for the long-term sake of the list, I'd much prefer that. We can't afford to work to a two or three year timeline, just because Roos may leave. That's doing a disservice to our long-term list management. I understand it's frustrating for everyone that we are continually anchored to the bottom of the table, but I want the best players. I want us to build our list properly this time, otherwise we run the risk of becoming a middle of the road team for the next decade. If the best thing to do means taking new draftees, so be it. Afterall, they may do a Wines and impact at AFL level immediately.
  7. I like Jimmy, but if we had to give him up to get PD, I think most would be okay with that. We'd be laughing if we got PD, JC and DS. Even Colyer would provide much need line breaking ability. Get them cleared with ASADA and I'd go hard at them. The only position we'd then need to address is the good decision maker/good kick off half back. We could really push next year if we managed all of that. Obviously though, that second top pick means Chip leaves, so it'd be a straight swap for Carlisle, I'm assuming? What happens if we got a PP? It's conceivable (but highly unlikely) that we'd have three picks inside the top 5. Can't see it flying for the AFL. They have a few clubs that are struggling that they'd probably want to get back up and running quickly. I wonder if we could push for a mid to late first rounder as a PP? Could be handy in some trades or picking up another mid. And then I woke up again.
  8. Spot on, DD. I yell this out to him every week. Know your limitations. Grimes and Terlich are the other two than need to realise they shouldn't try to bite off more than they can chew.
  9. Fair enough. I must admit, I have very low expectations of Tommy Mac's kicking. As long as he's not kicking it directly to the opposition in our defensive 50, I tend to view it as a win. I agree that we'll never win finals with players with ordinary decision making. Improve the decision making and you'll find the errors will be minimised. He's an excellent defender and 21, so I'm happy to give him another two years to improve that kicking. I'd offer him a three year contract though.
  10. Wow. I didn't think Tommy was our worst today. In fact, I can't remember him making an error by foot. I remember half a dozen great spoils and a little bit of run. The delivery to the North forwards was the best I've seen us face this year. Gave our defenders often no chance. I'd generally agree though that his decision making and kicking is a real impediment, to not only the team, but himself.
  11. Matt Jones is one of the biggest offenders, IMO. What he'll do though is run back quite quickly, but he'll be facing the wrong way. By the time he's turned around, the opposition have set up. It's dumb football and it's really something that is drilled into footballers from a very early age. Never run with your back to the play.
  12. Bergman is genius and Polanski's done some beautiful work. Don't rate Fellini though. Prefer Bunuel. It's more the DIYness of those hands in the wall. I went to Deakin, then did a couple of years as a production assistant, now I produce my own films - mostly docs. Had no idea about the bluescreenness of TSOM. One of my favourites as a child. I would watch it religiously. Some of the greats have been fans. Tarantino, Truffaut etc. You don't have to attend film school to know anything. Watching heaps of movies is education enough. They'll be those around the traps that can help with the technical aspects.
  13. Ah, that's a bugger. Totally get you though. I probably won't be going along to much at MIFF, unless I get free tickets. It's a short film I produced earlier in the year. Quite female skewed, I suspect. I'll be interested to see how it goes. Yeah, I guess for the '60s it's okay, but I always had a problem with the groping hands. It reminded me of being in film school again. Shall certainly let you know about that drink. I haven't even looked at which hotel they've booked us into yet. My old man lived in Sydney for a few years in the early 2000s. Haven't been back since, so I'm intrigued and vaguely looking forward to it.
  14. And I've been holding off on Fargo to see whether it got renewed or not before I try and invest myself in it. I don't want another Rubicon situation. I might chance it given your strong praise, DA. I'd heard negative vibes, but glad to hear that might not necessarily be the case.
  15. Is anyone up with The Fall? Not sure of it's been discussed, but wonderfully plotted, beautifully shot and well acted. Gillian Anderson is the lead. The second series comes out later this year. Then, I presume everyone is up to date with Hannibal, True Detective, Mad Men and Game of Thrones? All amazing.
  16. I've been meaning to see Images, but have been busy with Hannibal (s2), True Detective (s1), Mad Men (s7) and Game of Thrones (s4). I have a film playing at Sydney Film Fest, so the director and I get awesomely flown up there and put up in a hotel (for three days - fly back in time for the Melbourne v Essendon game ), so I'm planning on checking out the Altman retrospective while I'm up there. I take it you'll be going to something, HT? I never really got Repulsion. The story is fine enough I guess, but I just thought it was really clumsily and cheaply executed. The special effects are amateurish and I even remember a couple of out of focus shots. I much prefer Knife In The Water. That's wonderful.
  17. Nice. How did the short go? I never saw The Raid, but they've released the sequel now, haven't they?
  18. Exactly. The school has nothing to do with talent or application of the individual. A lot of the private school footballers are on scholarships anyway and want to make it at AFL level.
  19. Interesting. I'd heard (but not seen) that Tyson picked up the three votes in the Herald Sun. Can anyone confirm or deny this? If true, pretty good effort in a losing side.
  20. Yeah, you can see Edmund using this now to rub his hands of all responsibility. I think he made it up too, but even if he didn't, he should take some responsibility. It would an argument he mounted, 'backed' by his 'un-named recruiter'. He's never going to take responsibility and admit that he was wrong.
  21. The last great film I saw was Altman's 3 Women. I'd highly recommend it if you like weird, but psychologically complex narratives.
  22. I've been meaning to. I was in Berlin for the European Film Market in 2013 and Screen Australia had it up everywhere. Really glad it did well critically. I'm not sure its distribution strategy was that tops though. I take it you've seen it, D?
  23. I know you're being facetious, but why would you want to merge? We are the Melbourne Demons.
  24. Given he trained with us for a bit, I would hope Roosy and the boys got a bit of a look at him. If we go with him, we go with him, but I think we're well positioned to get a feeling for him.
