Delistings/trades at end of the season
Adam The God replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
I reckon we have role players that can partner with Hogan for the next two to three years. I've always felt that we'd get a FA KPF to partner him. It'd mean we're a more desirable club at that point. In two to three years, we will be. Keep targeting midfielders in the meantime. They'll be the ones that get us to finals. -

I reckon Freo, like the Roos and Cats, are done. At least from winning a flag any time soon. Freo will probably be top 4 again next year and the Roos will probably scrape into the 8, but their lists have gone as far as they're likely to take them. -

I'd want Watts' replacement to be an upgrade on Watts, otherwise I wouldn't bother. Bird is more of a competitor, but I think Watts has more tools. Not to mention Bird will be 27 at the start of 2016. This would be a bad, bad trade, IMO. If true, it shows very much that the FD are happy to get rid of Watts for very little. -

Hard to defend too, if you don't have Jack Fitzpatrick. -

Lol. Not sure he's trying to become a model. Despite his detractors, I actually think he'll become a very good player. He won't be in Hogan's class, but his attributes just make him so dangerous if it clicks for him mentally. -

Lol, it's pretty unfair that one. Action shots shouldn't count. -

Come on, mate. And we beat the Bulldogs. What does that say? -

If that's the case, it's a bit of a strange decision. I wonder what that says about our ability to attract players of any standard to the club, given we have to take such a risk on a bloke who isn't exactly a B grader. -

They're in a lot of trouble. There's no doubt they're behind us in terms of list development, but they're top players are still probably better than ours. They don't have a lot of top players though. -

I reckon we must have received advice from somewhere suggesting none of them will be punished or at least banned from the game. I don't think we'd take the risk otherwise, for the reasons you've stated above. -

This could go either way. If our FD thinks he could really add something, we may pay a 2nd rounder, but I'm hoping we'd say, 'a 3rd rounder or we'll pick him up in the PSD'. -

Haha. This thread's actually pretty funny reading. And as usual, HH has me convinced he's 12 or 13 years old. -

Yeah, I meant AND. I'd argue there's a bit of risk in it from our end too. Prestia is coming off a knee injury and Bennell could well blow up in a year or two and go off the rails. I think it's a pretty fair trade and there's a chance Gold Coast go from their vice captain seeking a trade, to potentially winning the trade if pick 6 turns out to be a goodie. -

If Prestia requested a trade I think they'd jump at a top 10 pick. They wouldn't be happy about it, but it's better compensation than Adelaide'll probably get. I'd take Brad. Think I'd prefer to back Toumpas for another year or two over Matt. -

I don't listen to SEN. Is Anderson known for having any genuine insights/inside information or does he just speculate and report his opinion as fact? He certainly wouldn't be alone. I get the feeling quite a few of them do it. -

I'd be quite happy to trade Watts and Howe for pick 6, Prestia and Bennell. If we got a second rounder back, we'd be sitting pretty. -

Lol, but what do GWS get out of this deal? -
Offer him $800-850k over 5 then. Seems like both Scott brothers would prefer to pillage than to develop in house.
-
What if giving that pick 6 away meant that we missed out on Prestia?
-
Howe and our second rounder to the Suns for Hartlett. Reckon they'd go for that, especially if their cap issues are as such that they won't be able to bring Dixon in without trading Hartlett.
-
Not sure about Hartlett's ceiling. I reckon his ceiling is comparable to Vince's ceiling. Vince is capable of A+ games, Hartlett could be. Either way, they're pretty even and I'd love to have both of them in our midfield. As another poster alluded to (sorry, I've forgotten), recruiting Hartlett would allow us to release Salem into the midfield occasionally, which is a big win, IMO. I keep banging on about us getting Prestia. Just imagine this midfield for a minute... Prestia, Jones, Vince, Hartlett, Viney, Tyson, Salem, Brayshaw. That is not a bad start. There is some serious talent in that list. It still lacks a bit of x-factor, which I'm hoping someone like Petracca can bring. Vanders, Garlett and Hogan as other occasional mids - yes, Hogan will play stints in the midfield, as we've already seen this year. In summary, get Hartlett and if we can keep our first rounder in doing so, we'll be really well positioned to further strengthen our midfield this year.
-
It could well mean Howe to GCS, Dixon to Port and Hartlett to Melbourne. Just have to convince Howe and Hartlett. That's what I'd wanna save pick 6 for. Dion Prestia. So if we could land Hartlett essentially for Howe that would be a huge win.
-
Reckon Hartlett could have a Vince-like impact if he came to Melbourne. I'd expect him to really stick it up them wherever he goes.
