  1. Healy normally [censored] all over us, but watching the replay last night, he was actually very complimentary at every possible opportunity. He actually sounded quite biased yesterday.
  2. You're probably right, but I love my Gus.
  3. He isn't. He goes missing for large patches of games and half the time butchers it by foot. So overrated.
  4. Thought he was a bit better today. Still looks a little lost, but performed a couple of solid spoils today. Disagree he's better than Brayshaw. He's just different. Brayshaw is so, so damaging when he gets it. Particularly, on his own. I will say though that Oliver looks more capable of racking up more disposals than Brayshaw though.
  5. For mine it's what Bugg and Kennedy do on our offensive arcs that gives our team so much. Combine their harassment with Garlett and Kent, and all of a sudden we're very dangerous in our offensive 50. Oliver definitely adds another good young midfielder though and increases that midfield depth that we've so lacked. I agree Salem could be a star, but his first three disposals today were all ineffective and were turned over. Thought he worked himself into the game a bit and had a few possies, but he was pretty ordinary in the first half. Yep, reckon he'll get one or two weeks on the sidelines. He was ordinary today too. Were you one of the whackers in the Demon Army that were singing louder than I've ever heard the MFC cheer squad sing? I did like some of the football/soccer-like songs though. Just wondering where half of them have been the last decade. Absolutely. I recall perhaps 8 to 10 turn overs/errors.
  6. I think if we cut our skill errors down, we'll win a lot more than ten. Unfortunately, I think it'll take the season to iron out these sorts of skill errors. Reckon we'll win 10-12 games though.
  7. Hmm. On the surface it sounds disappointing, but let's wait and see.
  8. I did do a Google beforehand to check that Tyson was pick 3.
  9. If he can stay on the park, Jack's perfect position is off half back. A good user, good decision maker and highly disciplined. Trengove and Salem releasing off half back. That'll be nice. Playing Jack off half back also releases Vince into the midfield. I know it was just the Bulldogs game, but don't waste Vince. Put him in the guts. Disagree we have a team that has a balance of speed and hardness. We certainly have hardness, not sure about the speed. Still, I think your point about playing a role is right. Jack can now settle into being a role player.
  10. The Dogs have suffered? If you're saying the Dogs have suffered recently, they played in a bunch of prelims in the time that we've been rooted to the bottom of the ladder. Also, you can only beat the team that you're up against. Okay, so they played their B team, but we won. End of story.
  11. We have come a long way in a very short time...
  12. Just RE: entry. Does anyone know if our MFC memberships get us in free? I heard a whisper they did. If someone could please confirm, that'd be great. Thanks DL.
  13. It's actually outrageous when you think about the access to top end talent our club has had*: Petracca: Pick 2 Oliver: Pick 4 Brayshaw: Pick 3 Viney: could easily have gone first round. Salem: Pick 9 Tyson: Pick 3 These guys will make a formidable group in two to three years time. Keep them all together, on the park and they will take us close to the ultimate. Big call, but these guys all have elite traits that compliment each other. I think we might just be seeing the formation of something special. Oh and the cherry on top at the end of this year? Dion Prestia. * It has certainly needed it though.
  14. Why do people insist on putting Kent in this group? Add in Salem and you've got the most exciting midfield in the comp if you can keep them together and on the park.
  15. This is that turn I was referring to at 1.35.
  16. I still remember sitting in the members as a 7 year old and watching Schwarta perform that amazing blind turn and goal. Seriously, I didn't appreciate how good that team was at the time. Particularly, as what we've had to sit through in recent years has offered nothing of this. He was very exciting and the 1994 season is the first I can really recall going every week and have done since. There were some great games that year and I loved his arrogance against Carlton in that final (?), holding the ball up.
  17. Certainly our weakness at the moment is our back 6. I think we might have the Saints in the middle though.
  18. It wasn't that we got our forward structure right in the last quarter. It was that we took our chances when the Dogs couldn't clear their defensive 50. We kept the pressure on them and then finished in front of goal.
  19. Even more exciting is that we haven't even seen Petracca or Weiderman yet either.
  20. Add in Prestia at the end of this year. Oliver is really, really impressive. What excites me is that someone like Thomas Bugg has stepped up and really shown his hand too. It just takes the pressure off a young bloke like Oliver, because there are more hands on deck and a sharing of the load across many. We are now getting goals from midfield and look dominant at stoppages. When was the last time we could say that? Gawn certainly helps us give first use, but guys like Oliver will provide really stiff competition for Gus, Petracca, Bugg, Kennedy etc. Really like Oliver's decision making and game sense though. He knows where his team mates are and he knows which decision to take. Very excited about him.
  21. Not sure this is necessary Steve, but just about everything Garland did today resulted in a turn over.
  22. Really worried about Tom too. His decision making is just not improving. He consistently bites off more than he can chew. I'm surprised to be honest, because I'd expect a coach like Roos to be all over a guy like this. He's continually failed to realise his limitations. It's bewildering that they let him keep doing it. It's as if they're telling him to keep backing himself in. If they are, it's dangerous. They need to treat him a bit like Zac Dawson. Just keep it really simple. Focus on what he's good at and make sure he's doing those things well. To me, he was playing within his limitations at the start of last year and then he was thoroughly beaten one week and he never turned it around again after that. He starts to take the game on too much after that.
  23. Agree. Also thought our disposal by hand and foot (but particularly by hand) was ordinary. Lots of room for improvement which is exciting. Won't play finals this year, IMO, but I hope you're right, Ron.
  24. I said last season Gawn wouldn't make it unless he improved his tank. Well, he ran that game out well. If he can do that consistently, he'll be an A grader. He's so dominant.
  25. I like the look of Clarry. He's quick in and under and makes good decisions quickly. The pace of the game didn't seem too much for him. Looking forward to seeing more of him.
