  1. I think he means their leaders played under Lyon and that's who's propping them up at the moment. I'd agree. I wish he'd just say that though. Their older guys always kill us. And the fact we lack decent leaders in that older age category makes it even more apparent.
  2. Oh, I disagree. Thought he was far too cute and ran himself or team mates into trouble during a number of critical stanzas in the game. I swear you're my old man posting, Ernest. I share your frustration, but we've definitely improved. I'd argue we've turned a corner, but I think there are more corners to turn.
  3. White may yet offer something at AFL level, but at the moment he doesn't offer us enough drive and as we know from the demise of Dunn and Garland, if you don't do that in our defensive set up, you won't have a consistent spot. Frost back for White next week. Thought Tommy Mac was pretty good actually. His kicking set up numerous forays forward. Funny how a few weeks can change a perception of a player.
  4. Of course the internal message would be different, but I was proffering that perhaps the external message should be similar at a point.
  5. Agreed. As soon as Hunt was shut out of the game in the second, we completely went to water and lost our confidence. An absolute avalanche ensued. We must be pretty easy to coach against at the moment. We simply keep backing our one and only system in at almost every centre bounce and sometimes we have to learn to jump to something else.
  6. I agree. It's time they just said it's unacceptable. When Port came out and said that, their players, specifically their leaders, responded. Of course, we have to balance that with the understanding that with so many young players, we will be inconsistent. But I thought our 'leaders' let us down today, so is it worth putting them to the sword publicly or just internally?
  7. I think he's far more talented than Daniel Bell, IMO. But I hope the rest doesn't pan out.
  8. He's been very ordinary for the past month. He's slipped back into selfish 'me' football. He gets cheap possessions behind the ball, his possessions are only damaging to his own team and his decision-making and kicking has been appalling for a captain. Today was certainly his worst game though. I wish it was an aberration, but he's been pretty ordinary for some weeks now. After today's game, I'm convinced he's carrying something.
  9. I thought Brayshaw was generally terrific. The only times he was ordinary was out in space. He just has no awareness. Which might explain why he's had three concussions in his very short AFL career. He was coming back from a longish AFL lay off, with little VFL form, but I thought it was a real return to his 2015 form. Exciting for mine.
  10. Jones is a B grade leader, but I'm not sure we want to saddle another youngster with the captaincy. We've been down that path before. Let's keep it with Jones for another season or two and then Viney will be ready.
  11. I reckon we lack dash off half back. Our kicking isn't as bad as it was in the first half of the season, but it's our ball movement being stagnated that means we struggle. Hunt has become so important for this game style already. If Frost plays today, he provides us more drive when Hunt gets shut out of the game. We need more of it. Hopefully Melksham as well next year.
  12. Freo also didn't seem to struggle this week. In fact, they were better.
  13. It is certainly Russian roulette from the back when our guys only run one way. Half forwards running off half back, if we win it, we look amazing and our scoring power is potentially irresistible, but Goodwin needs to find some tweaks to the system, because it's all the apples in one basket. We got burned a number of times today. It's frustrating how similar this game was to the earlier loss against these flogs.
  14. What is wrong with Jones? Disgraceful display again. Been doing it for over a month now. Jack Grimes, just hang up the boots. You're an embarrassment. The lack of leadership in this group is still painfully evident. As predicted, I'm sure we'll say that the Freo game took it out of us. Viney kept trying all day. He is a leader. Aren't blokes like Jones and Vince sick of losing? Missed Frost's run and carry today. As soon as they locked down Hunt off half back we lost all our drive. How we haven't worked out how to play that ground I'll never know. We overpossess every time as though the ground is the size of the 'G. Hickey completely nullified Gawn in the ruck, to the point where Watts was actually better. He needs to learn how to combat ruckmen jumping into him. At least he put it on the scoreboard. Our blokes like Hunt, Petracca, Viney, McDonald, Hogan and Brayshaw will be alright, but geez, we can't get games into them quick enough. Thoroughly disgusting day. And St Kilda records toppling all around us.
  15. Lol that's pretty ridiculous if your mate is going around telling his mates match ups for the weekend.
  16. Roos is practically a politician when it comes to talking to the media.
  17. I've watched him kick multiple floaters on the outside. He's an inconsistent kick at best. Certainly not elite.
  18. His kicking is not elite. Sorry. He's 50/50. Either a beautiful, penetrating kick or a mongrel floater.
  19. The most likely scenario, I think, mate. If they end up going for our first rounder next year they'll be losing their VC and a pick 10 (or was it pick 9?), while gaining pick 10-12 and someone like ANB. I think we'd say that's fair given Prestia wants to come home. Aren't the AFL looking at closing this loophole before the end of 2016?
  20. I agree. I take umbrage with the high and mighty spiel about this it means to be a 'fan'. To be a 'fan' means all sorts of things to different people. I don't agree with the yelling abuse or jeering though. If that's what 'giving him hell' meant, then I stand corrected.
  21. FWIW, do you believe poor kicking in a 27 year old can be reprogrammed?
  22. I watched both Jack’s down at Casey. I don't think either of their limitations have truly disappeared. Trengove's is a lack of legspeed and kicking penetration. Grimes' is ordinary disposal. I always said Grimes would get to 100 games in 2016, but let's see how he goes this week and next before we declare him fixed. Either way, there's no way he'll be on the senior list at Melbourne next year.
  23. What a patronising post. Being a 'fan' can be defined in a number of different ways. I consider myself a fan of the Melbourne Football Club. I go to every Victorian based game and some interstate matches too. Every player on our list is not without reproach. To question or dismiss does not necessarily mean you are not a fan. I stuck up for Watts for many years, but by the end of 2014/early 2015 I thought he was gone. I think most would have said his career was at the crossroads at the end of 2015. So are all those that questioned Jack during this time not 'fans'? Supporting a footy team is not simply about cheering every bloody thing. It's about having an opinion on something, rather than simply blindly following everything a club does.
  24. I think Max can be the difference. If he's beaten by Hickey again we'll lose. If he dominates him like he has some other opponents, our mids will eventually get on top. Make sure the half forwards bring that press and we should win. I'm not confident the Darwin game won't be used as a reason for a loss here though.
