In the meantime, we desperately need fleet of foot players who deliver the ball nicely inside 50. How anyone could be meh on Gaff, mate, just isn't watching the game closely enough. Exactly the player we want and need.

This is my last response as I really have no desire to derail this thread any further and I want to do you the courtesy of responding, but... Tyson has absolutely nothing to do with whether we should get Gaff or not.

What are you talking about? If you weren't allowed an opinion you would have been banned long ago and many of your posts deleted. I reckon I've read the same post from you over and over again in the past 5+ pages. You don't rate Gaff. Great. If you're going to post again, contribute something new or what's the point? (that's rhetorical)

I can see a legitimate reason for keeping PJ out of it though. One man is not a club. I would have consulted him, but I suspect there are many who wouldn't in that situation. If you want to forge a new direction ahead, a fresh slate in the selection process makes enough sense. My one concern about the article is Barlett's ego. I'd much prefer him as a figurehead. But, as previously mentioned, I'll reserve judgement on Pert's appointment until a later date.

Nothing wrong with Wilson's article. But let's wait and see. She's in the business of breaking news and is trying to here. SWYL, you're happy to stick the boots in about our onfield performance, but then not open to the possibility that the Pert appointment is a bad decision. I'm on the fence as I've no inside details and he hasn't even started at the club, so I'll reserve judgement a while longer yet.

Good mixture really. OMac and Petty are nice kicks for big guys too. Jetts is a reliable kick. Salem is a beautiful kick. Lewis' ability to marshall is underrated, so he definitely needs to be in there, but I like all those guys mentioned. I find Smith a little heart-in-mouth with ball in hand, but hopefully he can gain my trust with a bit more football. The rest of those guys I'd feel comfortable getting the ball. It's great finally having a backline where we're unlikely to turn it over every second kick. In some respects, the backline has taken the longest time to come together with our list build and also been our biggest weakness, but in a way, the backline is the area of the ground that I'm most excited by. Maybe it's because of the 'potential' down there and the addition of Lever, but it actually looks good on paper and I'd back most in one-on-ones. It's all about developing together and learning that defensive system and all the tweaks that come with this.

Really looking forward to seeing how he goes and I hope we put a bit of time into him for the rest of the year. Injury permitting, it'd be great to see him stay there for the rest of 2018. I want our 2019 backline to consist of Lever, OMac, Petty, Hibberd, Jetta, a Smith or Hunt and a kicker. Therefore, I hope we give Harry some time to gel with OMac, Hibberd, Jetts and Smith.

Yeah, Weitering signed a long term deal at the end of last year or early this year. Certainly worth an inquiry though.

Vince is the bloke who should make way. He doesn't marshall the zone like Lewis does and his kicking isn't as good either. As we've been saying for a while, time to play Petty alongside Oscar. Jetta, Joel Smith, Hibberd and Lewis the other backs.

Quite true. We don't know how they were treated internally and maybe they were thoroughly respected, consulted, felt valued etc, but we can only comment on the external messaging and to my mind, if that was me, I could have interpreted that as a shot to my ego. I guess given how carefully PJ choses his words, I would hope Bartlett would do the same. And look, perhaps there wasn't a lighter way of saying it, but that does seem unlikely.

It's more how you manage an organisation or a team of people working for you. As someone who oversees film productions, I can tell you that people feel a lot more valued and work harder when they are respected. I think this is a completely separate issue to the participation award culture in schools and in some homes, which will see a generation of kids grow up with absolutely no resilience what so ever. Instead, I see this as being about organisational cohesion and the evidence says ensuring people feel valued and part of a team (good culture), is how you get the best out of the majority of people. It's also a key pillar to ensuring loyalty. Loyalty is also clearly a trait PJ has worked hard to build up within the walls of the footy club. Time will tell if Bartlett's messaging around topics such as this, will impact on the culture of the club.

Demonland might become more interesting for it, but the club seems a little less tight lipped in the last week, than it has in the past. Or maybe I'm simply reading into it...

That would be the Federal Government you're thinking of. You know, the ones trying to privatise the ABC, having already handed Murdoch tax-payer-funded Telstra. That's a great organisation now isn't it? The more you privatise, the less customers get. It's all about cutting costs.

I'm not sure if I've got this, but I would hope there'd be a commercial element to the precinct we would own and could then exploit for profit. As I said to my old man, I'd be worried if Malthouse had endorsed Pert. I remember what happened the last time he endorsed someone that came to our club from Collingwood. The bloke is a doddering old gronk.

Kent lost me in his second season with a string of lazy performances. He's a goal kicker (when he's kicking them straight), but hasn't improved on his work rate in all his time at the club. He's old Melbourne.

I'd be staggered if the AFL's man wasn't consulted on Pert's appointment. Staggered.
