No, it can't.

I want to bargain with you some day Stuie. You do understand that you don't begin by asking for what you actually want right? We start at their second round pick , looking for either a player we want or maybe their third round pick. Hell, while we're giving ground on our original position, why not see if they'll go for a third round pick plus swapping second round picks?

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
RalphiusMaximus replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm not at all offended. I would love him to stay on and sign a long-term deal with the club. But right now with things as they stand, recent history says we're going to get shafted. -
To be fair, I'd rather Harvey than Wells or Thompson who were also being talked about.
-
As I said earlier, we start at their second round pick. More likely we will see a player swap I would think.
-
Nope, I'm saying that if you want to pay absurd overs for him, you might as well go all the way. Pretty sure everyone else understood that.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here

If he just keeps his mouth shut and then declares next year that he wants out, we get screwed. We have the option of taking whatever is offered for him or watching him walk for free in the PSD. While in theory any club can take him with their pick before Freo, the reality is that, as with Luke Ball, no club will waste a pick to get him for one year on an inflated contract. The only way to derail this is if the MFC had an earlier pick and redrafted him out of spite. The above scenario is why several of us are advocating for an early tade this year. Right now we can get a fair trade for him and maximise our return. Waiting is a gamble, and we've lost that bet more often than we've won. As for Jesse, he's a professional athlete. He needs to be aware of these factors and how they influence the thinking of the club and fans. His manager is going to push him to wait and play it entirely selfishly so as to maximise his potential earnings (and the agent's commission). He should be aware that everything his agent tells him is coming from that angle. Obviously, we would prefer that he acted with integrity and looked after the interests of the club that has invested so much in him whether he stays or goes. -
Want to throw in Hogan and Viney while you're at it?

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JOEL SMITH
RalphiusMaximus replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
This weekend was the first I've seen of him, but he certainly looked like a good prospect. His first quarter in particular, I think he had 10 disposals. Moved really well and laid some really nice tackles. It's a good sign for a basketballer to take to the physical side of the game so readily I think. Some of his disposals were a bit ordinary, but others were fine. I don't see any point in upgrading him next year, but he certainly looks like he'll be a player in the future. No rush for now. -
May as well ask why Richmond kept picking up our discards
-
OK, he played for Gippsland in the TAC cup 2015 season. From the numbers he was ok but not amazing, which is probably why he wasn't drafted. Had a few games where he got up into the mid-20's for disposals, but more often in the teens. Averaged just over 17 disposals in two years of TAC cup. He's been playing in the development league and then as 23rd man in the senior side. I'd like to be able to give his stats from the weekend, but the sportingpulse website has everybody listed as 0 in all stats except scores. From what I can find, I'd say he's got a fair way to go yet before he gets drafted.

Did you actually read the article? His point is rather more complex than telling rape victims to grow up as the headline implies. It's also dead right. -
Do the lions even have a coach yet?

First round pick, 150-odd games, still fit. He brings more to the table than a lot of second round picks ever do.
-
I'd be asking for their second round pick straight up.

We've been burned so many times by this scenario in the past that I'm half hoping that the club just pre-empts his decision and trades him whether he asks to go or not. I know the plan is to have him anchor our forward line for the next decade, but right now he will net us more than he will this time next year when he announces that he's leaving. Far better to go now than have him say that he will go to the draft if we can't get the deal done in a year, leaving us to take whatever is offered. -
Carlton's game is built around workrate at the moment. While I have no evidence, I suspect lack of effort may be a factor.
-
Both WA clubs want Hogan. hat gives us a good bit of power when it comes to a trade even if he is asking to go home. I maintain that the price would be two first round picks or equal value in players.

I haven't seen many Casey games this year but the kid looked pretty good today. He has good pace and pretty decent skills. Good hands below the knees too. He's 22 and 203cm. To me he looks like he needs to build a bit more muscle, but he has some tools there. Definite Rookie potential. http://www.scorpions.com.au/the-club/players/980-25-oscar-mcinerney.html

I don't like that. They should have the medical staff monitoring still.
-
Oliver is stuffed.
-
Massive mark from Tim Smith 50m out. He'sore after that. Nailed the goal though.
-
The tackling pressure is huge from Casey.
-
Speaking of rookies, surely Tim Smith has done enough to get a shot?
