  1. I think you have to say our recruiting team is doing a great job. They are open, easy to deal with, give a little here get a little there, innovative, occasionally smart and ahead of the curve and ultimately get who they want. You set out your plan, you look at what you have to sell in terms of picks and players and you go after what you want. By and large we get the job done. Sometimes we give away more on the surface (a la Hogan) but we as supporters dont always know the facts behind the trades. We generally end up in a better position than before we started. Other clubs deal with us because we don't play games, are genuine and commercial. Compare that the Dumbdoro at Essendon* who would drive me insane as a supporter. Whether we pick the right players is another question that will play out over a few years but I think you have to give the recruiting guys a high mark for achieving what they set out to do. * check this out Hawthorn also selected former Essendon swingman Michael Hartley in the pre-season draft after the Bombers refused to delist him. The 26-year-old had a one-year offer from Essendon on the table but delisted himself to join the Hawks. What a goose Dumbdoro is
  2. This is so blindingly obvious but the happy clappers keep saying it was only injuries..... no system, no clue with ball in hand. Roll on 2020
  3. Maybe we thought Jackson was a better bet than Green. Keep in mind GWS may hve taken Jackson had we nominated Green
  4. This is what I find really hard to accept. We had enough experienced people at the club who repeatedly spoke about not getting carried away with a Prelim - they know there was work to be done. Goodwin even flagged it multiple times re the Hawthorn final and then inexplicably chose to not to sit down with the team and review the Prelim (his own words). Richmond made the prelim under Frawley and didn't see finals for another 12 years. We aren't that team but I hope like hell Goodwin has looked inside himself to unlock the issues - even if he doesn't explain them publicly. Re the draft they have gone bold which I don't mind. Jackson has plenty of upside and Pickett could be the most exciting player since Jurrah - x-factor we have been missing. Lets go 2020.
  5. Clearly didn't watch Oliver ........
  6. Aaron Davey says hi.. so so we went after Jamie Elliot and ended up with Pickett. That's a great get IMO. And we save around $700k a year...
  7. This is demonlands wines v Toumpas moment for prosperity. i told you he was a spud i always wanted him at 3 i can't believe we didn't draft x
  8. Great trade. Tyson was a 1 trick pony and not a great one at that. Also didn't play this year and we got a potential gun that can play multiple positions. Win win.
  9. I'm not sure that theory holds water, can you name one instance where that has happened?
  10. I can finally go back to listening to Gerard on 3aw Stopped listening after Hooksey died because Der Wayne is such a plonker
  11. Here is a really unusual suggestion for pick 10. Seems to have been overlooked. Why don't we just pick a [censored] gun player
  12. @Ethan Tremblay The trade whisperer - Yesterday's man....
  13. You had to edit that post? Did you spell blah wrong?
  14. Goodwin is already on record as saying that they underestimated 6-6-6 and that they made the mistake of trying to add complexity and nuance to their gameplan rather than work on refining the basics. They're just two things he has addressed. There are others. So I don't buy the 'didn't have the cohesion' story. If they didn't have the cohesion it was in the coaching dept. A wholesale change in the way we structure the coaching and fitness dept isn't tinkering at the edges. It's a fundamental shift. Maybe they have acknowledged that internally and are trotting out the company line publicly. That's fine. You wouldn't expect them to come out and say 'we totally botched it and have got rid of all the muppets who couldn't coach'. What it does do is put a whole heap of pressure on the first 5-6 rounds next year. New coaching staff, new fitness staff, new Director of coaching. They need to get he cohesion of the coaching dept working pretty well or it will be carnage if we 0-5.
  15. That's glib. And total BS. Coaches have plans when one down with injury, or a team kicks 5 in a row, or they are kicking with the wind, or its wet, or the opposition is taller etc etc. The issue as Goodwin knows is what to do when Plan A isn't working. Maybe thats why we were so cooked this year. Certainly fits with the 'Goodwin is stubborn' view - how long did it take for him to change when teams kept chipping the ball and switching against us.
  16. 2. Is a huge issue. OUr players were like deer in the headlights because they didn't know what to do with in ball in hand 1 will help 2 although when players are confident in hteir teammates about where the ball is going (like say Richmond) its amazing how fit they will look. When the ball goes whizzing back over your head its amazing how unfit you look. 3 is unbelievable.
  17. I'm no Oscar fan but that is disgraceful.
  18. #EpsteinDidn't KillHimself Prince Andrew might still be taking calls though....
  19. Yep he's only donated $500m in the past 2 years in philanthropic causes you goose. What a non-contributor he is to this country.
  20. Well the forward line will be fixed up if Stafford is coaching goal kicking .......... Holy cow.
  21. Thats what Frawley did with the Toiges in 2001. Made the prelim, got done by the Lions, tweaked the recruiting (Blomfield, Paul Hudson..) and promptly never saw finals again until 2013.......... Let's hope there's none of that at the Dees.
  22. Not sure this necessarily follows. Yes you need a basic level of fitness to execute but our problems stem from a confused game plan, no trust in our team mates to run and spread. This is part fitness but its also getting burned on the turnover and the ball sails back over your head and before too long players start playing for themselves not the team. This is why I believe our problems this year were way more than injuries. The game plan fell apart and they were like deer in the headlights with ball in hand. When that happens you invite pressure, the ball gets turned over more often and skills look very ordinary. Its a vicious circle. Richmond by way of example are happy run fwd of the ball and chance their arm. As a team they are comfortable and not under the same pressure we are. B grade players look like A graders in a team orientated game like that. If they stuff up they don't have the same fallout that we have becuause they have been to the top and trust that it works.
  23. Langdon has always had endurance. Was elite at schoolboy cross country. Hunt might be able to develop it...
  24. Papley is one of these guys that becomes a superstar because he's out of contract. He's an OK player but not one you'd sell the farm for. Or pay $900k and pick 9. That's insanity.
