Box Hill Hawks v Casey Demons - VFL Round 1
Its a repeat of what we see at Senior level. - Too many players going for a contest, balls spills free, swept away by Hawks and delivered beautifully by foot - Hawks can take a mark, we are devoid of players that can mark - uncontested possessions we are being creamed - players doing basic things wrong, like being on the wrong side of a contest, covering space not a man, short handballs to a manunder pressure. It's pretty demoralising watching this knowing that there is no-one other than maybe Stretch who will come into the senior side. Our coaching staff at Demon HQ and Casey seem to be on the same page, it's just the wrong page.

Omac and Frost: Premiership Kryptonite
Leave Frost for Buddy. Has done a reasonable job before but replace OMac with Kielty. At least he can defend and can take a contested mark. He also has a football brain.

POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs Essendon
dysfunctional backline without leadership is easy to exploit. We miss Lewis more than people realise and of course it doesn't help having defenders that can't defend, or 3 of them fly for the same ball and leave Ess players out the back or have a brain in their head because they guard 'space' not players. Sure we don't have May and Lever but we didn't for most of last year as well.

He needed to coach his own team AND have Casey players play the Melbourne system.

Great that you are relaxed about this. From where I sit we have lost the last 6 games straight and don't look like putting together a decent game. We have won something like 7 qtrs of football out of the last 24. But you are relaxed so its all OK.

POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs Essendon
For 4 years we have been in the bottom 3 clubs for defending one on ones. It's not rocket science. We can't defend. It's also no surprise why we have sold the farm for Lever and May. We are desperate for key backs. Oscar has no attributes as a footballer. He can't take a contested mark, he gets outbodied easily, his positioning is poor, he has a Queen Mary turning circle and he is slow. He is an OK decision maker with ball in hand and has neat disposal but so he should to get to this level. You speak as if this is something new. We were 9th last year for defence in terms of score. We leak like a sieve and teams have in recent years been able to pile on multiple goals in quick time against us. Yes we play a team defence but FFS a defender has got to be able to defend and OMac can't do it. He is a total liability as a footballer. 130 pts against with 50 i50s 2 weeks running. It's about as poor as it gets.

You will never win games with defenders that can't defend.

The Need for Outside Midfielders
We lost contested ball 3 times I believe for 2018. We have lost it 3 times already in 2019; 5 if you count JLT. No point in having fleet footed wingers if you don't win the ball.

Omac and Frost: Premiership Kryptonite
Mrs McDonald must be getting sick of trying to defend him... It was obvious 3 years ago our defence was terrible and OMac wasn't going to makeit. Has no attributed as a footballer other than his disposal is quite neat. 5 touches agains Ess, 2 in effective, zero marks and 1000 fumbles + over-running the ball. Number of times he let players fal out the back 327. As next to useless as a footballer as you could ever be. Zac Dawson would cream him.

Operation get rid of Oscar and ANB!
No, never.

How's that defence working for you @binman? 30 shots at goal from 54 entries for 20 goals. Your poster child OMac going to be AA this year? they can't hide him any more.

Tanking scandal documents
So they say. It remains to be seen. And two of the main players are dead. Gutter journalism at its finest. No one gives a flying 10 years on.

Who will the Demons target next?
Shaun Higgins is the type of player we should target. Strong, quick, accumulator, elite foot skills, wins his own ball and not expensive.
-
Oskar Baker
Baker did his hamstring around August 4 2018. Hardly 'pre-season'. Should be primed by now.

Is Inside 50 Dominance now a Strategy to Exploit?
Geelong in this game also had 20 shots on goal (80pts) from 24 entries into their fwd 50. We don't seem to have learnt a lot since then. or at least our defence hasn't

Is Inside 50 Dominance now a Strategy to Exploit?
None of this should be news to Goodwin and Co. It is also well telegraphed that our strategy has been to get the ball in side 50 quickly. We saw this last year. The news rules however make it easier for teams to clear the ball from defence. Geelong's defence was very well organised. Ours is frankly a rabble. 1.Too many players going for a contest with the number of times the ball fell to the back where Geelong had two or three players to run into easy goals 2. Starting Ablett at FF knowing that May would be the deepest defender was obvious and worked to unsettle our defence. May ended up further up the ground 3. Last year Scott dragged Lever back to defence one on one where he is weakest. That worked as well. 4. We had 3 or 4 players commit to many contests. 2 or 3 Geeling players sat on the outside meaning if we won the contest they could tackle. If they won the contest they could run and spread. 5. Fumbling was almost our worst enemy. They handled the ball cleanly and with intent. We were like 12 yo's with a bar of wet soap. 6. Our defenders are among the worst in the comp at defending one on one. Yes the structure of our defence with injuries has made it difficult but we have major issues with OMac and Frost. May like Lever will take a while to settle in but he can't do it on his own. I would start trialling Kielty and Petty. 7. As for ANB and our mid tier players. There are a swag of them that just need to do more. They are possibly worse than ineffective. They are becoming a liability. Why do teams like Geelong have new players that come in and look like they have been playing for 5 years? We need major gameplan surgery. And perhaps it wasn't such a wise idea not to review the Perth loss....

What to do with Petracca?
Petracca has a long way to go before he makes the "Hall of Fame". What an ego.
-
What to do with Petracca?
Dismissive comment. Not sure if you realised how sure-handed Geelong were and how clean their ball skills were.
-
What to do with Petracca?
Petracca's head runs at 100kmh and his body runs at 25kmh. Needs to: 1. stop thinking 3 steps ahead. 2. Stop thinking about how to pull off the 1% dink to an opponent under pressure 3. just get the ball and burst into space and kick the ball to a target 4. Stop worying about his opponent when a ball is there to be won. Just get the flippin thing.
