  1. Your name says it all. When we lose May I suppose you'd replace him with a small bloke. Goodwin's options are limited. He's clearly made the choice to have one last crack at the year no matter how depleted we are. One can disagree with that. If we lose this week, we'll be able to have all our young VFL players get a taste. Though there is a lot to be said for playing our best possible team against C'wood if they have a chance of making the 8. Would make a nice end to a sad season to keep them out of finals.
  2. Well Goodwin seems to think we still have a chance at finals and says he'll put off other condsiderations till there is 0 chance. I wonder if he means it. Selections tomorrow will probably tell .
  3. Only confirms that the AFL have the fix in to make sure C'wood wins enough preceding games to make that an elimination final for C'wood. (Yes I am paranoid)
  4. Couldn’t find anywhere else to post this but just watching Olympic diving and thought maybe the MRO and aFL and media sycophants are watching to see that Maynard could have altered his body position even though he was in the air.
  5. Obviously he can't "know" the club stuffed up whether or not he said "thinks". If he didn't say 'thinks' we'd all assume "thinks" was implicitly there anyway. So the misquote is no big deal. Even if misquoted, I think WCW was entitled to say that in the circumstances it was an unneccesarily negative remark to make. And if someone has a long history of such negativity, it is understandable she'd call them out.
  6. I made the same joke to spouse. Response - wouldn't put anything past those bastards at AFL HQ.
  7. Clarry fined for engaging in a melee. How do you do that without anyone else?
  8. Good. I was watching on TV with the sound at my preferred volume level (i.e. on mute) and thought they were replaying the incident multiple times to criticise the umpires for missing an obvious illegal disposal. Ony later did I learn why. More fool me.
  9. I seem to keep asking the same question which begins: Has the AFL given any reasons for .... Today's entry: 2 Friday afternoon games?
  10. Anyone know if the AFL has explained the early 7:15pm start on Friday night? Are they hoping to engender a riot at 7:40pm?
  11. The Bombers crashing into a hillside is truly wonderful. It takes a little gloss off our win over them, but that's a small price to pay.
  12. I typed a longish response to this but decided to not post it because it is off topic. Just to say at the very least the AFLPA should work to remove obnoxious clauses in contracts that allow the AFL to muzzle players. A player strike would put a rocket up the AFL's rear.
  13. Sure he broke the rules. But he is essentially compelled to sign up to if he wants to play. Not exactly a free choice. I could imagine litigation about that in a country which did have a right to 'free speech'.
  14. The ump didn’t say that. It was a commentator.
  15. I'm staggered that the AFL cannot think of someting related to footy to entertain the spectators at half time (apparently the match itself is not worth discussing). Whatever musical act they choose, many won't be interested. But everyone who is at the footy (maybe excepting some in corporate boxes) would like to see players from all the other teams competing in kicking competitions, handballing comps, races etc. Maybe some old stars (I mean footy ones, not pop stars) competing in something. Surely those overpaid AFP execs could use their imagination to think of a few things to occupy 15 minutes. Or they could even outsource to some mates to do the thinking.
  16. The lions would find him as indigestable as I find the AFL.
  17. Has the AFL made any comment about the state of the ground?
  18. I read a few comments earlier in this thread about the surface at Geelong and thought there might be a few puddles that posters were making a fuss about. I didn't look at it till late in the game. It felt like I had entered a time machine to the 1960's.
  19. Tom Green has put the boot firmly into the MRO/AFL in a now deleted podcast. Article in Canberra Times has excerpts from it. https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/8701721/tom-green-slams-afls-crackdown-on-dangerous-tackle-toby-bedford/?cs=14329 It's firewalled, but not hard to get around.
  20. Based on my experience of trying to lght fires, there's often plenty of smoke with no sign of fire.
  21. Thanks, but keeping oppo guessing can make sense even for a few hours because they have to finalise their team at the same time as we do.
  22. Do club's make a fuss about players who have played for another club in the AFL? Or only for a kid getting his first game in the big time? In any case, why give that info to the opposition given our current ruck situation.
  23. If those saying a player can't get properly fit during the actual season are correct (I don't doubt they are), then the obvious question is why did the club play him early in the season. WOuldn't it be better to put him on a pre-season regime during early rounds to prepare him for playing late in the season. I can only guess that was because of lack of alternative players or helping with personal issues he might have had.
  24. Given the umpires have a 9m marking in fornt of the goal square yet frequenly allow the kicker-in to run more than twice that before kicking the ball without penalty, I doubt the 50m lines would be helping them elsewhere.
  25. The 'we should have won more cups because we had the best list' argument looks to me like self-flagellation. OK, if a club has a list 10 times better than any other club, they should be mortified that they only won one cup. But no club has ever been in that position. Even if a club has a genius coach and an arguably better list than any other club, so many things have to go right to win multiple times that all you can be is disappointed if you don't. Rending garments in grief serves no purpose. Self-flagellation is ridiculous.
