  1. Out - Melbournes laziness, weak mindset & general lack of heart In - Sandringhams confidence, heart and never say die attitude. Method - Who the F knows
  2. It doesn't matter what you call it or how you serve it or even what you garnish it with. If it smells like crap, looks like crap and tastes like crap then it probably is crap. Take from that whatever you like. Tata for now!
  3. like it. in fact print and frame i we may never see another optimistic article about MFC again
  4. 26 touches, 2 goals and more inprotantly 12 tackles. Right or wrong he will be in red and blue in round 1 agains the Aints
  5. Agree rhino. The thought of poor Neita being ripped a new one by J Brown or B Hall doesn't sound like a nice way to serenade one of our greatest ever players into retirement.
  6. quote name='Toad33' date='Mar 8 2007, 09:44 PM' post='60491'] I believe the club, like all others, is chasing a premiership....... There is more to the football club than the team. Gaining the ultimate team success by giving up draft picks may not be in the clubs best interest for future financial success. Put another way. Sacrificing the mid term future for short term gain could end up in longer term pain.
  7. If you watched the Carlton game on saturday night you will have noticed Lance sporting a black eye. My sources are telling me he got into a fight with Shane on friday night that saw him on the recieving end of a broken nose and a subsequent black eye. So all is not settled in the whitnall family
  8. I tend to agree that the gamblers have been smashed in the chops while the drug users (recreational for the sake of argument) have been deemed worthy of several chances. The rules are definitely contradictory and something the players association need to address. On a more serious and potentially sad note. Despite what people may think of Daniel Ward football is his career and his method of feeding his family and paying his bills. I have no doubt he is ashamed of his problem and regrets the damage it has caused however 12 weeks on the sidelines is almost certain to kill his career as a senior footballer. Being a keen MFC supporter I would hope that a player who hasn't played senior football for 12 weeks would find it hard to make a team running into a finals campaign. The AFL needs to consider their sanction giving thought to the fact that they are almost certainly putting paid to the mans job and career. A job he will need now more than ever to get his life back on track both mentally and financially
  9. Rhino, Customer Details lists are worth a fortune in a marketing saturated world. Big businesses are willing to pay big $ for specific information that allows them to pick and choose the demographic they can market too. With this announcement potentially doubling our directly mailed audience sponsors will look at us as a much more marketable brand. An obvious example is the MFC magazine. The sponsor ads contained within the magazine can now potentially reach as many as 45000 directly (god knows how many indirectly) people and further into a key demogrqaphic than before. The 35 - 65 Male profressional/semi-retired audience common within the MCC. The demogrqaphic most likely to puchase BMWs and Rolexs
  10. If Petrie and Leigh Brown can be serviceable big men at both ends of the ground so can Miller. Just needs the right training and motivation
  11. Personally i didn't mind the run and carry handball game. i agree they over did it yesterday but add in the pace of Davey and Whelan and the creativity of Pickett and Johnstone and I think it will work. However what they should be trying to do is use the run and carry from defence to about 75 out where you want to get the ball in the hands of Johnstone, Davey or Green to hit a leading robbo or neitz on the chest. However this style will prove difficult for Miller who is best leading to the wings taking the ball the comes out defensive 50. not gonna happen with this game plan. they may consider moving him back to defense after a couple of unsuccessful weeks where, hopefully, he can make an impact. If he doesn't however dont be suprised if he ends up at another club as a serviceble (not star) KPP ala Leigh Brown (for example)
  12. Good point Clint, i agree. I am also of the belief that coaches, just like any other profession, can lose form so to speak with age. Just like a footballer whose best years might be 25-31 a coaches best years might be 40-55 (for example) after that they potentially start to decline. Maybe the game goes past them, they lose touch with new methods, not sure exactly but I think statistics might back this up. Malthouse and Pagan are good examples although with regard to Pagan ll sorts of mitigating circumstances abode.
  13. Agree wholeheartedly Fan. If Dunn can offer as strong a contest across CHF with bigger and stronger CHBs on him that Miller before seasons end, while I will be very happy i will be totally surprised. Having said that Dunn is very close to best 22 and will only need a good showing in the NAB cup to prove it. IMO He does have a role to play in the side with or without Miller at CHF. Meanwhile Miller is definitely best option CHF first up. If he turns into a blubbering mess by round 3 or 4 the coaching staff will have to deal with it then.
  14. This is a great topic but difficult for a majority of the posters on board to comment on since they may not have the longevity of Jarka. Considering that how about we open it up to people who can nominate the best 5 MFC players they have seen in their time. Might be worthwhile indicating what you consider your time beforehand. In my case I would say I really started following footy properly around 1991 at the age of 10. That being said my best 5, in no particular order would be. 1. Garry Lyon 2. David Neitz 3. Jim Stynes 4. David Shwarz 5. Todd Viney Close but no cigar: Cameron Bruce, Adem Yze, Travis Johnstone, Stephen Tingay, Allen Jakovich, Brett Lovett, Glen Lovett, Sean Wight & Paul Hopgood. Really a tough thing to do, its a real shame but I think this top 5 of the past 16 years would get smashed to smithereens by the top 5 of probably 13 other clubs throughout the same period. Very sad. P.S. Hoppy was a joke, just checking if your paying attention.
  15. There is no reaso why we cannot play all 4 of Neitz, Robbo, Miller and Dunn in the forward 6. As stated previously Neitz and Robbo play their best footy deep around the goal mouth and Miller up around the wing between 55 and 75 from goal. That leaves Dunn a ton of space around and inside the 50 metre line to patrol and make his own. Plus with teams forced to play a tall on him Robbo is more likley to get a smaller opponent as deanox mentioned
  16. The Backline is pretty steady IMO. Holland will go round again next year as the Gorilla minder and Riv and Carrol will be in the first 12 selected for several years to come. Wheels is the best small defender going around and Daniel Bell and Clint Bartram will improve again. No reason why Wardy can't have another good year in 2007. The forward line is also ok for 2007 and will improve heaps with a fitter Robbo and a permanent Yze. Not to mention potentially Lynden Dunn. Midfield is definitely the key, either we bank on Bate, Jones, Sylvia and Moloney to take the next step or inject some ready made players. it seems we are ok in the toughness department but some more pace could make a difference. 2 more players capable of breaking the lines with running bounces and long accurate kicking ala Heath Black would be the way to go for mine. 2007 is a real chance and 2008 might be the last chance before a complete rebuild.
  17. correct dee'viator re: Jason Akermanis' contract
  18. Newton kicked 7 in the Sandy Reserves at the weekend. Will get promoted to Sandy seniors next week me thinks with Miller coming up to the Dees...i hope
  19. "Why not take them to the Elwood Canal and let them loose?" I love it!
  20. Sorry mate you have really lost me now. Both those guys were fantastic, Wight for a number of years, a great brave FB. And Smith we picked up at a mature age and he gave us sensational service in a number of positions with better and more experienced players such as Shwarta and Lyon constantly injured
  21. David Grant, he actually had a pretty decent career at StKilda i think. Wouldn't have played many games for MFC. Must have been about 30 when we picked him up. There has been quite a few player transfers between st kilda and mfc over the years. Stephen Newport & Stephen Powell come to mind immediately and of course Luke (the drink) Beveridge
  22. i remember Prymke, actually I reckon he was a pretty good player before he had that back problem. What did the Dees do to deserve all those great players in the 90's having horrible runs with injury. Lyon, Schwarz, Charles, Tingay, G Lovett, Prymke, Jakovich. Man we were stiff. Also what was it with Melnourne picking up all those dud brothers? Both Cockatoo boys were dissappointing, not that Che was a superstar but he left them for dead. Damien Gaspar, possibly the worst AFL footballer every to pull on a jumper, makes Nicho look like full back of the century by comparison. Luke Ottens, come on! Allen Jakovich, not saying he was a dud because he was sensational when on the park but man we really could have used the 300 games Glen put on for the Eagles. Theres probably a few others that I can't think of ATM.
