  1. For the moment I just wanted to start up a list of interested D'landers, when the time comes (Feb) i'll start a league (or 2 or 3) and confirm numbers and names then. Then i'll distribute private league invitation numbers.
  2. Being prepared is always good, but I found that having a list of players is almost useless because most of the players you want will be likely unavailable and the system provided is good at providing you with the info you need. Some research into smokies can be handy. The best kind of preparation in this is understanding the rules. We had only 16 players to pick for each of the 12 teams, with only 9 participating live (non-live picks are immediate). It took us 45 minutes. If you were to log off halfway through you'll have automatic selections thereafter, and they're pretty good. It certainly does require that one time commitment, but after that the time investment needed is far lower than SC or DT.
  3. Welcome MrReims. That's 14, there are no garuantees that any more entrants will make the cut, i suspect there will be 16 in the league and therefore 2 more spots, unless I have promised someone else a spot in some other thread and I din't notice (I think I got everyone). There is also a possibility the league size will expand as the AFL is, not sure. It will be live online, it works really well, we just have to find a time everyone can get online at once. You get 1 minute to select your player or it gets picked for you. The reality is that not everyone will be able to be online at once, but the autoselections are very well thought out and we found that those who missed the draft actually tended to perform better than those who didn't. More on that later. The 1 minute part is crucial, if it were unlimited you would never get the draft finished 16 teams * 20 players (may vary) = 320, a lot of minutes, when we did it I found we picked players every 20-30 seconds. Looking forward to the draft already, will be interesting to see how everyone rates Melbourne players, given that everyone (I assume) will be a Dee. Thanks HT for splitting the thread.
  4. I don't want to derail this thread, so I suggest it continues on seperately from the Ufooty one. But for future reference I have the following down for 2011 ultimate footy. Draft order TBD. 5. Drawn from a hat, 2nd round runs in reverse order, then reversed again for 3rd round and so on.... this is what killed the guy with pick 1, after riewoldt went down his next best player was picked at the end of the second round. The order can be determined however you like, next year we're giving the guy who came last pick 1, and i'll get the last pick. Last year there were 12 of us, but we could have had 16. Scoring is also different, uses a category based system. Which is recommended and even though I had my doubts about it initially I think it is a far superior and more tactical way of scoring. Read about it here: http://www.ultimatefooty.com/help/
  6. I'll set it up when it's up and going. I spent a lot of time searching for a good site that did draft style fantasy, there are others (can't remember them) but this one seemed to offer what I was after for our group. I drew pick 2, took Ablett (pick 1 went to Riewoldt, which cost him). Then picked up Barlow for free after the draft, which proved to be a winning move. I ended up winning the GF by kick.
  7. Below is a list of d'landers that have registered their interest for Ultimate footy ahead of time. Initially I started the list as to make sure those I had promised spots to would get one, but now it seems that there will be enough interest for at least 2 leagues and we shouldn't have any trouble finding spots for people. Feel free to continue to register your interest, or just wait until Feb when the site opens and i'll bring this up again then. I have a few takers already, I am happy to set it up myself, or if someone else would like to do it I am only too happy to HB resposibility. It's a great system, far far better than SC or DT. Website is as stated above. Won't be online until Jan-Feb, but you can log on and read the rules.
  8. Sparky for sure.
  9. Seems like a good kid from the interview on the MFC site, even if he was a collingwood supporter. Won't take long for his nickname to settle in either.
  10. Without working it out, I think we are equal first (or maybe 1 behind) for premierships since 1926. Carlton and Essendon are close also.
  11. Same could be said for pace. In my mind, pace and foot skills are the two hardest skills to teach.
  12. I guess that means we have no interest? If we did we did we could trump their PSD pick couldn't we?
  13. Wonna for me, he'll be the player that will benefit most from a good preseason. Plus he's a gun.
  14. I think we're all clutching at straws. How about we bring them all down to AAMI park and play jack in the pack, whoever ends up with the ball gets the gig.
  15. IF we had to take one: Maybe Neagle, based purely on the fact that I feel Collingwood got the best out of Anthony when he kicked 50, they have been a well resourced and a well coached club over his time there. Essendon have been well resourced and poorly coached. I have no doubt Neagle has more to offer than what he has shown, but it will need to be significantly more to make it a worthwhile option.
  16. Then Forego 53, still value for Houli from where I sit. If you listen to the papers, it seems we will be doing just that, except not for Houli.
  17. Weak year, the best of all of them is Houli. He will be a quality player, and an excellent pick up for the Toigs, PSD pick for him is cheap. If we had an earlier PSD pick I would take him. I still don't understand how essendon failed so badly with him. As unpalatable as it seems, throw Neagle, Anthony, Thorp and a vew other VFL KP forwards into a lineup and pick the one that has the best chance of turning their career around. I am prepared to back the FD to pick the best one, and to provide them an environment that has the necessary ingredients that their previous club did not.
  18. I'm happy enough with the plan to pick up the best availalbe mature(ish) forward. If the football department thinks it is Anthony then so be it.
  19. I have never seen anything from him, but a WC fan I know rates him. Reckons he was one of their most important players in 05-06 because when he was injured they really noticed it. Maybe there is something in that. But he seems to me to be an injury prone 'meh' player. No.
  20. Wait until someone steps up as a ruckman. With PJ gone someone will have to play backup to Jamar. If they do well enough then give it to them in 2012.
  21. I guess the Football department agrees with you, but I just don't see it.
  22. No Subiaco game this year. (Paterson?) only 1 at AAMI. Great.
  23. I don't get it. I think our drafting strategy has been pretty clear in regards to picking up players that have character issues (which I assume he does). And prisoners wear Green track suits. Red ones if you're a real pain. EDIT: oh that Art vandalay... now I get it.
  24. Jack Healy? Surely.
  25. From the AFL website: Which basically means that the AFL have found a way to make sure GC make it into the next round, even if they can't get over Sydney they will surely be a monty for the wildcard given that GWS will be completeley uncompetative.
