GAMEDAY: Rd 04 vs Sydney
Itās the HTFU herbs that what make this stuff work.

GAMEDAY: Rd 04 vs Sydney
Been sick all week and seriously doubtful my body is up to the stress and anxiety footy causes it. I suppose Iām about to find out!

PREGAME: Rd 04 vs Sydney
And others might hold off on the declarations of career ending concussions for that very reason - that was my smarmily sarcastic point.

PREGAME: Rd 04 vs Sydney
I assume Kade Kolodjashnijās career is over, just like Angus Brayshawās was.

Box Hill Hawks v Casey Demons - VFL Round 1
I ignore the match day threads for the MFC games. I might post the odd thing in the half time break to pass the time and soothe my anxiety that makes the break feel like it goes for 6 hours, but other than that I canāt bear the over the top moaning and player bagging that fills the threads. When weāre playing poorly I generate more than enough anger and frustration of my own without needing to feed off others. Plus I prefer to actually focus on the game, not my phone. But yeah, was hoping for a neat summary of the Casey game from someone not over the top. If you know what page itās on thatād be great, I read page 7-10 and didnāt find one.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
If anyone thinks this is an issue, have a read of his response to Lyon. Itās exactly what others have been saying: he didnāt understand the required standard, he saw how behind he was and worked his arse off to catch up (and probably overdid it, ergo the first injury), and knows better for next year. With an āI didnāt see Garry at training muchā, which gave me a chuckle. Like I said in another thread, if he turns up out of condition next pre-season itās a different issue. For now, cut the guy some damn slack and stop looking for reasons to be upset. Thereās enough actual reasons without inventing them.

Box Hill Hawks v Casey Demons - VFL Round 1
Grrr. I prefer it when the Casey games arenāt televised, so we can get the great reports from the handful of die-hards that go. The manic hyperbolic rambling of the match-day thread types drowns out all the actual proper information.

To trust or not trust debate!
Where has all this stuff about the players not understanding the coaches coming from? Itās basically the same players as last year, with the same coaches as last year. I doubt Goody decided to start talking to them in Mandarin over the pre-season. We greatly overcomplicate things around here when things arenāt going well.

To trust or not trust debate!
I feel like I donāt have any choice but to trust. The only thing that happens if Iām distrustful is I spend more time frustrated and anxious about whatās going to happen, which affects nobody but myself and definitely doesnāt help anything. This is a relationship I have absolutely no power in, other than to exit it, which I have no intention of doing.

POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs Essendon
The guyās played at the Gold Coast his whole career. Itās no different to how our players from 2008-2012 went to other clubs and went āI didnāt know how fit you had to be to play AFL LULZā. Itās why I think he gets the benefit of the doubt *once*. If he turns up unfit next year, Iāll be right there with you with pitchfork and burning torch in hand. We invested a lot in Clarry too, and he turned up fat in the 17-18 preseason. He worked his arse off to fix it, had a great year, and turned up this year in good nick despite having had surgery on both shoulders. Benefit of the doubt, once.

POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs Essendon
The gist of the message was that heād been working his butt off to get in shape since arriving. I reckon āpublic bakeā is overselling it; itās more āweāll give him the benefit of the doubt, but only onceā.

POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs Essendon
Iām not going to try and establish the root cause of our current malaise - I worked out a long time ago that the view from TV (or the stands, sorry guys) without knowing the strategic context is too narrow to be able to do that. Nor will I pick out scapegoats (be it players or coaches). I understand why people like to single out the likes of ANB - I doubt thereās a more unclean player on our list and that dropped mark gave me flashbacks to the Dan Nicholson era. But he was also in our team last year when we were flying, so the idea that replacing him in the side is magically going to fix everything is fanciful. Heās the sort of player who will always look worse when the team sucks and better when itās flying. The current problem is deeper and system-wide. I will say though that Iām deeply disappointed and hurting over this start to the season. I hate that flat, almost hungover feeling on Saturday/Sunday morning following a disappointing performance. Weāre all feeling it and we all thought after last year that this was behind us. The odds are stacked against us now even for making finals. Thatās obvious even to the greatest optimist. Iām still hopeful we will turn it around though. I think weāve got a leader in Goodwin who can and a playing list who are up to it. Itās just a bloody shame that weāre talking about āturning it aroundā three weeks in to what was meant to be a promising season. I hate footy.

Tom McDonald Interview (4/4)
When Melbourne are called upon for the media work their healthy salaries require them to perform, Iād prefer they just responded with stone silence. Better yet, take a footy in with them, so they can let their footy do the talking.

Changes v Essendon
Theyāre just the names he dropped off the top of his head in the press conference. Indicative at best.
-
Sam Weideman + contract
The old āhe has a neat haircut so he mustnāt be tough enoughā argument. I wonder if anyone under the age of 40 still thinks āmongrelā is a key ingredient for a football player.
-
Changes v Essendon
Yep. The trade is a bust because we havenāt had much value in the first two games.

Changes v Essendon
Letās drop Jones and replace him with Corey Wagner ? We have at least two players who donāt look AFL ready in Sparrow and Lockhart and another who looks way off AFL pace in Kolodjashnij. May also might need covering if heās injured. However, I canāt see any magic panacea waiting in the wings at Casey. Stretch might be a minor upgrade on Sparrow, but by and large weāre stuck with what weāve got until the glut of injured half-forwards we have come good. I think there will be fewer changes than people think, and what changes there are wonāt involve senior/experienced players. They will be backed in to come good.

Non MFC games Round 2
I missed the second half, but the Bombers were absolutely garbage in the first half and I enjoyed it a lot. Hopefully the final score just reflects St Kilda taking the foot off and not Essadon getting their shizz together and actually playing it proper football in the second half.

Non MFC games Round 2
I hope you told them itās fine though cos Eddie didnāt know.

Non MFC games Round 2
I donāt reckon he did it on purpose like others are insinuating Red, but I donāt buy the argument that he was completely oblivious to what was plainly evident in front of him either. Iām quite happy to settle for the middle ground position that it was just a case of engaging mouth before brain and he said something thoughtless and insensitive. Experience notwithstanding, it fits the Ed profile in my view.

You donāt think the walking stick might have been a bit of a clue?

Foxtel Sports aka Kayo
I set up Kayo last weekend after turning my Foxtel box on for the first time since last footy season to find it dead. Iām used to watching footy in SD due to being too cheap to pay to upgrade the already excessively expensive subscription (and I hate that threatening their customer service people is the only way to get reasonable deals), so this was a nice improvement. Reckon this service is more than good enough to justify cancelling my regular Foxtel subscription - itās actually better. The only downside I can see is it introduces a dependency on my NBN connection which can occasionally crack the shits - if that happens I could watch on my 4G phone service. The likelihood of both being down is unlikely enough to more than justify the reduced expenditure. Nice of Fox to finally join us in the 21st century!

POSTGAME: Rd 1 vs Port Adelaide
Ah well. 99% of the time the mantra of āthings are never as bad (or as good) as they seemā is correct, so Iāll assume it probably is this time. In the mean time, I wonāt rush to watch the replay!

POSTGAME: Rd 1 vs Port Adelaide
Hah. Unfortunately the sport of choice in this case is swimming, where you sit around for six hours for a total of about 10 minutes in the pool. And my son got DQād in one of his three races. Sounds like Iād have had about the same amount of fun watching the MFC.
