  1. The biggest benefit of the Sandy relationship is that it saves us a bucket load of cash. We can't afford to run our own reserves team and that's really the only reason why the Sandy relationship was necessary as far as I could see. If the AFL are proposing to foot the bill for the resources required for fielding our own second team, I can't see a single reason not to end the relationship.

  2. RIP Peter. A generous creditor to the club in our time of need. I hope he is remembered by MFC supporters for his good deeds for this club.

  3. Jaded, good points, you make sense with a valid reason of why not to play him.

To those that know his game better than I how would he go playing in defense?

If Newton is the weapon-in-the-making forward with x-factor oozing out his bum everyone claims, then playing him in the defense would surely be a waste.

  4. It was sloppy and careless, and the AFL have shown no mercy for this kind of thing before. He'll get at least a week, I imagine; not intentional but definitely reckless.

He immediately knew he'd cocked up after he did it, which is why he made sure Bruce was okay afterwards.

  5. I think us Melbourne supporters are too used to tolerating shit. We don't owe Neale anything. He has had a ten year crack at it and we are further away from a premiership than ever.

Why do we have to tolerate performances like today for the rest of the year.

I think the key difference in our opinions here is that you believe that by not sacking the coach, we're "tolerating" the crapola performance to date. I completely disagree, I think sacking the coach immediately is a rash and erratic decision that has naught benefit.

  6. It ND departs, the board will take the broom through this list.

Agree with all your post bar this line. The board will not touch the playing list at all, regardless of whether someone's sitting in the senior coach's chair or not.

  7. Perhaps the club and Neal should discuss their future in the next couple of rounds and talk about options of going full on youth (just not playing any of the Ward, Brown, Wheatly, Bizzell, etc. and going for Buckly, Frawley, Neville, Newton, etc). This is something i don't particularly want, playing the kids doesn't mean they are going to learn from the hard knocks, they need the mix of experience to ofset thier nerves. We should maybe instead aim to have a certain amount of young players in every week, and should give almost everyone a chance.

Dunn, Bate, Jones and Petterd are all under 20, as is Bartram who is a certainty in the 22 when fit. You mention the need to balance youth with experience -- I think we already have it right.

By the way Paul Wheatley is only 25. I wouldn't be lumping him in the same group as the old farts you've mentioned above.

  8. I like the idea. Worked for the two dogs who retired that time... Croft and Garlick I think... And they won!!!

That's fine if they're retiring by their own choice. The initial suggestion implied them being retired, rather than them retiring...

  9. Making a special game where they can all play for the last time, is pushy and insulting.

Absolutely. This kind of thing would be a very public "hey everybody, look, we're sacking these blokes". I'm not quite sure why Gouga seems to be such a fan of the public humiliation route when it's so unnecessary.

  10. Yeah. Allow him to part ways with respect and dignity. It's not going to make MUCH of a difference to sack him now, if any at all.

The guy deserves some measure of respect. He's done a fair bit for the club.

Agree 100%. I'm glad the club is treating Neale with the dignity and respect he deserves. Sacking the coach at this stage provides absolutely no benefit whatsoever.

  11. Aaron - Alwyn in their first 7 games

    Goals: 11 - 11

    Marks: 11 - 29

    Disposals: 78 - 91

    Kicks: 59 - 49

What's that tell us? SFA if you ask me. Their starts have been almost identical, that comes as no surprise given that they're built almost in the same way. You can't compare the two yet because Aaron is a senior, experienced player and Alwyn is still taking baby steps.

Ask again when there's been fair time to measure the two.

The other thing to consider is that Aaron was 20 when he played his first game and Alwyn was 22.

  12. Yeah exactly. It seems strange that McLean and Whelan are named on the bench - I would have thought they are either in the seniors or not playing at all. McLean and Whelan should never play at Sandy.

Agree. It just means they're giving him until the last possible minute to prove his fitness. He won't play.

    Out: Warnock, Holland, McLean.
