How many games did you attend this season?
Nasher replied to Adam The God's topic in Melbourne Demons
Zero. -
I suggest those that think he's a pure genius haven't read his worst work. I'm a little from column a (MikeyJ et al "funniest poster ever") and a little from column b (Dappa Dan et al "most annoying poster ever") to be honest. He's had me in stitches at times and had my blood boiling at others. I don't see what is so funny about constantly pissing on a particular player over and over and over again. The "I'm getting drafted" thread is definitely comedy gold though.

Exactly. To use a more tangible example, I doubt Geelong are salivating at the fact that the have Kane Tenace on their list, nor are St. Kilda wetting themselves with delight that Colm Begley is good for a game here and there. I believe that if you're classed as 'depth' for more than a year or two in a row, your career is probably not going to last much longer. I also happen to think there's a lot of rubbish in our 'depth' anyway.

Isn't the B+F based on a 'votes per game' system? On that basis it would be hard to fudge the results to prevent rewarding particular players unless they consciously scaled his votes per game, but that is dishonest and I can't see how it would work. I agree about Sylvia's need for consistency, but I don't see how he could've been any more consistent than he was for the second half of this year when his best was excellent, and his worst was merely good. When can we conclude that he's been 'consistent'?
-
Precisely. Take him to trade week and see if there's any vague interest, and if there's not, delist.

Colin Sylvia- Complaints, Congratulations and Comments
Nasher replied to Don24's topic in Melbourne Demons
How do we know this is all thanks to DB and not to Colin himself, or the fact that he's been able to get his body right for the first time since he's been here? I definitely don't think this can be used as a meaningful example of how much better Bailey is than Daniher. -
It wouldn't surprise me if the club prevented players who will not be on the list next year from playing. That means that Wheatley and Whelan aren't likely to play, and you'd think McNamara, Cheney and Buckley might be in doubt for that reason as well. It'd be nice if the club offered some compromise to Casey in that regard. I would think Jurrah, McKenzie and Newton would all be available for selection assuming fitness, but that's pretty slim pickings. Selection this week will be interesting I think.

I agree Clint. Besides McLean I think it's a pretty fair indication of how players' years were. I'd expect the likes of Warnock to finish higher in the club's B&F though. These players played during the season but did not poll any votes: 1. Simon Buckley (1 game) 4. Jack Watts (3 games) 20. Colin Garland (1 game) 21. Daniel Bell (3 games) 29. Michael Newton (5 games) 31. Paul Wheatley (3 games) 41. Rohan Bail (1 game spent injured) 42. Jake Spencer (6 games) 45. Matthew Whelan (10 games) 49. Jordie McKenzie (3 games)

I read articles like that one linked, and hear the odd whiff of information come out from people close to the club, and it makes me sincerely believe that how the club (including players, coaches and admin) views McDonald in his role is vastly different to how we mugs view it. The club seems to have no shred of doubt that he's the one to lead.

I loved the bombs in to the middle; it was obvious that they (the second one at least) were purely for humour purposes rather than to a plan, but it was a nice touch. Couldn't have planned the 'super goal' any better either. Despite the loss, it was a fantastic way for all three to go out. Personally, I ended the season on a bit of a high despite everything. I feel like we won. There are no words to describe how glad I am that this season is finally over, and that we must now surely have passed the bottom of the trough.

Relax, Rojik. They still are a bunch of cheating, tanking #$%@. We may have leveled the score on the tanking (debatable), but I don't see us stuffing money in to cardboard boxes to play marquee players so we can avoid the salary cap. Don't let this situation taint your view of Carlton for what they really are. I'm still comfortable with my position on what we did and what Carlton do.
-
Thought the Wheatley "super goal" was a nice touch. I also thought when he was doing the kickins, he was kicking it in to the centre square just to humour the fans rather than for any tactical reason. It made me smile anyway. IMO he played a very good game considering he was on one leg and straight out of not playing for the Casey twos for a few weeks. Wheels and Robbo had last games to forget, but who cares? It was fantastic that they were both out there. Especially for Wheels that he was able to fall across the line for 150. Sylvia, Frawley (Riewoldt bag notwithstanding), Morton, Jamar all fantastic. Jeez I can't wait for next year.

James Strauss was just a bonus prize we picked up along the way to the big one. 1 and 2 was always the goal in my eyes. If we waste it on Sandilands then it was all for naught.
-
I'd prefer to have beaten Richmond. I'll die if the prize for all the torture that was 2008 and 2009 is Aaron Sandilands.
-
Didn't mind seeing it either. Bummers smashed them in the second half. I felt awfully sorry for Max Bailey though. What dead rotton luck, I felt like crying too when I saw him crying in the rooms at half time.
-
Completely agree.

Good post Roost It. Our mob are exhausted, depleted, last placed and playing for draft picks. Their mob are in the calm before the storm, are the side of the year and are looking to find some form before the real season starts for them. We'll play at 100%, so will they, but I can't see how this could possibly result in anything but a complete and utter smashing.
-
If you were Sydney, why would you bother? If I were Sydney I'd wait until he was delisted (which is surely inevitable since he's OOC), then take him with our last pick in the draft. I doubt they'd want him badly enough to bother spending any more currency than that.
-
Yeah, oops. I went through every player we drafted this year and obviously forgot to count the PSD.
-
Best first year player this year will be tough I reckon. It's only a two horse race between Bennell and Jetta, but while Bennell was better in the first half of the year, I'd say Jetta has been much better in the second. Should be interesting.
-
It's not at all uncommon for players to be whizzed off to surgery after the season's over. Better to do it now and aim to be recovered in time for pre-season training.
-
Anyone who has threatened to 'tear up their membership' ever actually done it? I've always thought it was a melodramatic, nonsense threat, not to mention an empty one. And that's just putting aside the fact that your membership is in the form of a plastic card that isn't easily torn up.

It's back! As happens every year, we've opened the Drafting and Trading forum for business. If anyone has any issues accessing it, please let me know.

You're asking a question that there is no plausible answer to. There's no range of picks and no level of interest because he won't be on the market. You're asking for a quantity that is impossible to measure.

Tipped Freo, then spent five minutes talking myself out of it. Spewing. Happy that pick 1 is definitely in the bag, though I don't think it's been in doubt for a good few weeks now. Only one more week of this miserable year to go.
