  1. Mitch Brown retired. Fraser Rossman delisted. Official as posted on club socials and website.
  2. That's an interesting one. I had him as a SuperCoach smokey a few years back so kept a keen eye on him. He played some decent footy 2-3 years back and was developing well. He's very much a run and kick player with decent skills. He was shifted from midfield to backline as GC brought in top draft picks like Noah Anderson and Matt Rowell and was less effective back there. As he's a good kick, I'd be all for chasing him if we could get him cheap. Would be a decent option on an opposing wing to Langdon IMO.
  3. These finals just show how far off our ball movement was this season. Overhaul of our offense needed over summer.
  4. Nearly over for the Lions here. Time to start taking risks and attacking hard through the corridor. Doesn’t matter if you lose by 100 points in a prelim, there is no tomorrow winning is all that matters. Can’t win playing this crap style of footy.
  5. Agreed, though it’s infuriating. If Sydney somehow don’t win, then this years premier must be considered extremely weak. Even Geelong are a bog average team away from home at GMHBA. This is excruciating watching this as we know we’ve wasted a year of our window. Our best would absolutely demonlish these two teams. Losing to Brisbane at home last week was one of the worst losses in decades IMO.
  6. These two teams are ****house. How did we lose to both these spuds. Brisbane especially. They’re the modern day Bradbury of football. At least Sydney are a legitimately good team. They deserve to win this year.
  7. 100% this. Geelong rested players all year and are now cherry ripe to challenge for a flag. We hurried injured players back and played them underdone instead of giving them time to heal. When you have players like Dunstan and Chandler absolutely demolishing the VFL, surely you can give them a game at AFL level to fill in for underdone players that need to be fit come finals time. The club stuffed it this year. Shame to hear TMac has re-injured his foot. That's probably also the result of rushing him back in 3 months when it is usually a 6 month recovery time for that type of injury. Hopefully he will still be able to get some preseason in and be ready for next season.
  8. We've shown interest, so he could be steak knives in the Jackson trade. Would be a better option than Grundy IMO, as he's younger and would be much much cheaper. Provides backup ruck for Gawn and the big Grundy money could be spent more important list needs such as a key forward, classy forward flanker or small lockdown defender.
  9. This is the sort of stuff we live for! Doesn't mean we're not chasing his signature though. Wouldn't be a bad option for our forward line for a year or two, would be a strong option who demands a decent defender for a bit before the likes of JVR and others take on more responsibility.
  10. Burst onto the scene and then stalled since. No improvement on Weid IMO. Neither is Corbett. Hopefully there are other tall forward options available, as the ones spoken about thus far are worse than Weid and wouldn't even make our 22!
  11. This is fine in theory. Problem is Grundy is a poor mark and takes a contest mark every four games or so. His poor marking has been the main thing that stopped him becoming the best ruckman in the game, and a reason why IMO he never had as much impact on matches as Gawn, even at their respective peaks. In terms of aerial marking, he is actually statistically worse than Jackson. So whatever we have with Gawn and Jackson in the air now, is likely better than what we'll have with Gawn and Grundy. There will be no improvement, the best we can hope for in marking contests is to maintain what we have if Grundy improves his output. The club seems to be rolling with the idea of Grundy being number 1 ruck, and Gawn playing mostly forward. It's a strange one as Gawn showed second half of this year that he's not great as a stay at home forward. He kicked 2 goals in 10 matches while playing forward for approx 55% gametime. That's a horrific conversion rate and makes Ben Brown look like he had an All Aus season! I cannot see a way we play both Gawn and Grundy and improve as a side. We're essentially diluting our strengths while not improving our weaknesses.
  12. It has to be posturing. Lobb has already bought a property in VIC and is moving interstate with his partner. He has requested a trade in consecutive years. He will move whether Freo like it or not, so it's up to Freo whether they'd like to get anything back for him in a trade. If Freo don't honour his request, he will simply claim mental health issues and walk. The mental health card, legitimate or not, can and will continue to be used by players to get out of poor situations. The players have too much power these days.
  13. Usually don't mind the Mongrel Punt, but that is the sh*ttest take on us I've seen. 2021 placings are irrelevant in 2022. Playing Collingwood twice (4th) vs playing Port twice (11th) is obviously harder. How can playing more top placed teams than any other finalist be considered a weak draw? Bookmark for that site removed lol
  14. I’d be shocked if the guy who has his jumper number and the word “loyalty” tattooed on himself would leave. Losing him would be a disaster for the club. Hopefully this is just rubbish talk off the back of Kane Cornes pulling it out of his [censored] as an example that he admitted had no fact to it. The thing that worries me is if there’s a rift in the players and the culture has tanked. If we see multiple players wanting out of a premiership team that should contend for years to come, then the only possible reason is poor culture. Hopefully that’s not the case!
  15. He’d be a good pickup for Casey to replace Mitch Brown. He wouldn’t do much for our AFL team though.
  16. He's a decent kick but not outstanding. He's failed to find much ball either midfield or half back, and his defensive efforts are often lacking. He's been around 7 season now and played 14 games this year for an average of 10 disposals and les than 2 tackles. It's no wonder he's been in and out of the team his whole career when not injured, as he really doesn't offer a lot offensively or defensively. I wouldn't bother chasing him when we'e already got better options and depth on the list. We've got other more pressing positional needs and would want bonafide best 22 quality player in the Jackson trade.
  17. If you want to phrase it that way, then yes! What's in Jackson's head and anything to do with him as a person is now irrelevant as he's not part of our club or future. What's in Tim Lamb's head is relevant as he's still part of our club and his decision making shapes our clubs future.
  18. That's a completely valid point. No draft pick is a certainty and there's been plenty of top 5 picks who went on to be duds. We've had more than our fair share of them! By the same token, the best players, especially tall forwards, are usually highly talented juniors taken in the first round of the draft. If you look at the Coleman medal winners, nearly every one for over a decade has been a first rounder. 2022 - Curnow - first round pick 2021 - H McKay - first round pick 2020 - Hawkins - father son pick 2019 - J Cameron - underage pre-draft (first round equivalent) 2018 - J Reiwoldt - first round pick 2017 - Franklin - first round pick 2016 - J Kennedy - first round pick 2015 - J Kennedy - first round pick 2014 - Franklin - first round pick 2013 - J Roughead - first round pick 2012 - J Reiwoldt - first round pick 2011 - Franklin - first round pick 2010 - J Reiwoldt - first round pick It's up to the recruiters to determine if they think Cadman's physical attributes, skillset, and personality mean he will flourish at AFL level or not. Based on his output and data on previous draftees, he's more likely to become a winner than not. No guarantees though!
  19. Thank you for that update with quotes supplied LH!
  20. Jackson made a decision to pursue football instead of basketball 5-6 years ago. Why does the decision to pursue one sport over another as a teenager matter to any of us? What does his family life matter to us supporters now that he's leaving? What value is there in speculating about any of it? I've been harping on about supporters accepting the decision and moving on, but clearly some of you are still in a stage of grief and having irrational discussions. I'll stop banging on in this thread now until the pointless probing and speculation of his family life is over and others are wanting to discuss what we value can extract in the Jackson trade. Personally I'm hoping we can pinch pick 2 from the Eagles, but unfortunately it seems likely he'll wind up at Freo for a few mid-late range first round picks.
  21. It’s not a bad thing at all. There’s also nothing wrong with what his mother posted in support of everyone. There’s no point dissecting it to create a narrative. I was attempting to convey that, albeit with sarcasm attached. Nothing wrong with someone having their family as a key part of their decision making process. More importantly I was trying to say no reason for people to be creating these narratives and having a crack when they don’t know the circumstances and it’s a pointless exercise. It’s all irrelevant, as the decision has been made now. We have no choice but to accept the decision and move on with the sole focus of extracting value from the trade, instead of looking in the rear view mirror at an unclear view.
  22. Cadman's not perfect, no prospect is. He's not the best with ground balls, and like most talls it may take him a few years to build enough strength to consistently win those grappling marking contests he excels at in his current competition age bracket. His strengths directly address our weaknesses though IMO. He's a really strong mark all round, whether on the lead, overhead, or in a wrestle. He played defense when he was younger and shifted forward this year to great effect due to being able to read the ball and play really well. There's multiple instances in the championships where he had the ball come in high and he marked it overhead while out-wrestling others or with blokes hanging off him in a pack. He's also a proven goal kicker, averaging 3.6 goals a game at underage level and being the leading goalkicker at underage level and the champs. Our main issues up forward are a strong marking tall target, and lack of goal scoring firepower. Cadman's a strong mark and big goal kicker. That's exactly what we need. He'd be the right target for us if we have a top 5 draft pick from the Jackson trade, as he's top 5 on talent and fills our biggest list hole.
  23. The post where she - as a member of the MFC supporters page - went out of her way to say MFC will always have a special place in their heart and graciously thanked club and fans? The one where a mother said she is proud of her son and looking forward to having him home again after a few years of Covid lockdowns? Nah haven’t seen that one yet, better post it in here again mate so we can all scrutinize it! Regardless of if his parents influenced his decision or not, the decision is made. We move on. There’s nothing to be gained by us all whinging and creating narratives to justify it to ourselves. Now he’s officially leaving, our focus should solely be on what value we can extract in a trade to improve our team.
  24. It’s Trav, not Nev 🙃 We traded our future first (2022) for a first round pick in the 2021 draft, which we then used to draft Jacob Van Rooyen. Our first round pick in this draft now sits with Sydney. So we essentially traded 14 this year for 17 least year, got a player in with an extra year of development. Decent enough trade, but means we have no current picks until our second round pick at 32.
