Not sure that is correct. Where is the ‘gift’? They have to trade what they have to get it, and it comes from this years first rounder and a first rounder traded in last year. So they dont have any special gifts in terms of the trade scenario. The fact that they got gifted so many top picks in their early days that puts them in this position now (and with salary cap pressure) is a different story.....

What is true is that we will have the power to decide. If they want it, it needs to be a juicy offer. If they expect Green to be bid on at 4, then they either need 3 or 4. So our strategy without pick split should see us with Anderson (2) or maybe Young (3). This is definitely to our benefit, particularly if we have Langdon, Tomlinson and Elliot all inbound all for the cost of one second rounder. We get to decide how this plays out, and if we are not getting ‘overs’ we can say “no thanks”. We also have the option of future round picks, although from GWS you would expect them all to be late in each round, and this could also be an interesting strategy to consider into the mix.

So we have Petty who is developing nicely, and OMac as depth. Frosty might have legspeed to break the lines and may have some currency in this trade. If he is going to the hawks, what do we get for him? Assume he is not FA or RFA, so are we realistically looking at a second rounder? Or maybe a future second rounder? Would worry he doesnt fit their precise kicking model, as all he has is ‘frost-ball’. Given we have May and Lever, Petty, Hore and Jetta, and one other (Hibbard? Salem?) Frosty may think he has little chance of a regular place in the back 6. He may move to the wing, but with options coming in (Tomlinson and Langdon), he might just want to explore his options going out. Could be good for all parties. Otherwise, he might just be enhancing his negotiating position. Or he is lost and is asking for directions.

So, how about: We land Tomlinson as a F/A We land Langdon with 20 We split the pick 2/3 with GWS, they get a gun plus Green. We get 2 teen picks plus a player. We take 2 small forwards in the draft with the picks. Chandler is moved back to understudy Nev. Take a spekky selection with the third and last pick that we have to make at about 40. Close the books and hit the rookie draft or PSD.

I hope the team have a clear strategy that will not mean we get suckered at the last moment, but clearly plan out the scenarios and deliver best value.

Essendon were the ‘best of the worst’ and deserved what they got. GWS were ugly and mean around the contest, and the doggies couldn’t take it, or shake it. Lions showed (like us in the Prelim) that excited kids don’t beat hardened men when it counts. pies have easier path to Granny. Richmond, Eagles and Pies showing class. Cats showing a bit of age. Without Danger and Kelly, they bat pretty thin.

This relies on the belief that the CEO oversees the coaching stuff. Suggest it is Mahoney, as head of football. The CEO would probably get pantsed for interfering too directly in the FD. I would imagine that the board would have been asking for a clear plan of how to get back on track, and a review of what went wrong this year. Melodrama central! i know nothing, but if we don’t start with a ‘Sky is falling’ point of view, then maybe North, who need a new assistant, figured Jade to be the best available and made him an offer? After 8 years at one club, it would also make sense to be exposed to other systems as you work toward your own senior gig.

Big spread in the hun re players on the move ‘whispers’. Zero mention of Dees players. You would think if they wanted out, or were on the way out, there would at least be a ‘whisper’...

Sparrow, Jordon and Nitzer are all young players, if I remember they were ‘bottom age’. I suppose we had an expectation that our list would be strong and healthy, and would take us forward this year. I suspect they were being smart and topping up for 2020, without expectation that any of these kids would even get a look in in 2019. It didnt quite go that way, and we were forced to play about 40 players from the list. In a normal year, chandler, sparrow and so many others would have been only developing their craft at Casey. I would prefer no ‘Rising stars’ and instead have a solid list that delivers a flag. If we still think these guys are high quality, we could easily split this pick. The deals being touted here with GWS could be very good for us, especially if it brings a list-improving (not clogging) player.

Can you get us pick 7 or better? Otherwise, let the young man have a pre-season and lets see what he can produce.
