There's an old adage. It's not so much the earnings as the spendings. Earnings= score ( ours ) Spendings = score ( theirs ) Much is made of our high scoring...and percentage. Did it win us a flag ? No We were still beaten too many times. If we contained others scorelines by 2-3 goals a game .We win more games. If we do this whilst not scoring ( overall , at worst )2 or goals as much a game our % isn't harmed much if any. But again, we win more games. We sit higher on ladder, we play important home finals. Finals are won by defences. We need to do better. We can cover Hogan. As good as he is/will be/ maybe we have a front game that with refining is dangerous. We absolutely need to lock down our backyard and control it. Control in the back, chaos upfront. Whether some like it or not Hogan isn't pivotal to success. A whole working team is. Smith understood that. I think the club does too. It's actually part of what esprit se corps is all about. In other words a champion team not a team of champions etc Imho we need what May or such brings to our game more than what Jesse brings. That's not a slight on Jesse...it's about a team, not an individual.
