  1. ....he was probably wearing a gold jacket at the time... a case of premature exclamation !!
  2. a bit like " If they play it ( well) ...they will come !! "
  3. what you proffer above is quite more befitting of your cause/stance.. your previous narky post isn't..you know it I thought the post was itntersting as, many say and say again, footy is mainly between the ears. So some insight as to how this all affects a player.. Newton in this instance interests me.
  4. pmsl I think this is about trying to compete for ad dollars at that time of day. They ( AFL ) probably feel threatened by the NRL ..hence the wanting to persevere with Monday nights also. Always find it curious that the body entrusted with running the competition all too often forgets the foundations and history of it. No one is ever really going to want to go out on a Sunday evening in Melbourne in winter..its just not what we as an urban(suburban ) populace do and yet the dog wagging AFL persist. They might want to look at attendences to the earlier start experiment ( on Sundays ) which I would think is a much better success as it does allow we Melburnians to get home again in time for a full evening at home..Home is where most want/need to be before the work/school week starts. But this requires intellect and we all know the AFL lacks this !!
  5. For crying out..have folks nothing better to do than spell nazi ?? You were able to read it.. try critiquing the commentary..i.e the content not the box.
  6. This far too logical Jnr..will be lost on many. As you say..the real supporters ( as postulated by many ) will have a membership anyway. Therefore numbers at games are very deceiving in terms of revenue. Would seem reasonable to suggest that those that turn up time to time as non members probably have other things or priorities in life and get to games when they can and want. Whats wrong with that ? Members have already coughed up...no effect to net revenue on the day. All arguments to the contrary are essentially folly. We as a club actually by all accounts have the greatest percentage of acknowledged conversion of supporters into members. Not a lot of point ayone really grizzeling at the moment..as with all aspects of the club we're rebuilding..and that too will cover and deal with memberships and the general following. Those that are paying per play day to watch...probably want something a little uplifting, rewarding and entertaining to watch..can you really blame them.
  7. Quite the assessment. I must say this would just about cover al that I have seen of Newton to date and describes his on field behaviour foibles rather accurately. I too dont think he has what is required at AFL level. I have seen petulance in place of pressure and poor positioning and space use where cunning and authority was required. Fancies himself as a bit of a showman me thinks without the requisite talent and results to validate it. Theres no fun or profit in evaluating a player in this manner and its not a personal thing..its just what is, observations that he isnt what we need in our team. He doesnt cut the mustard!!
  8. well.. some are showing a distinct lack of acumen as to how you go aout educating a player. Its an age old and common pratice to get a forward to spend some time in the backline as part of their development. Watts is a class player and a star in the making..he is not at AFL level yet. Part of his journey for him is to learn better evasive skills and learn his craft from the "other" side. No need for frustration..its all good
  9. Keep in mind this year is not just about development but team building and that includes sussing out whos worth a spot going forward..and who's clogging !!
  10. its interesting to see that there are two schools of thought really..those that think footy is part of life..and those that seem to think its a life apart..more pity them
  11. ultimately there is only ONE yardstick ..and one alone for a key forward.. Scoreboard pressure...he has none !!
  12. bloody amazing really.. that we got any..
  13. is a bit of an odd one in a fashion. I am one who will only manage 4-5 games a year..( thats just life) but I buy mine asap . The knew pay monthly direct debit is terrific idea. At least I can choose or go as per opportunity. More ought to try that..that is the ones who hang off
  14. If by the above your attempting to infer that Juice has some cred then you obviously werent around to watch the early games of Neeta or the Ox..watching them you just knew they had something..watching Juice just gets you angry !!
  15. for mine..some of the most astute observers of the game are female..either in media or amongst those I know. Having a pair of voice deepeners is no guarantee about quality of commentary
  16. A rather interesting perspective and I somewhat concur with your evaluations. I do sort of miss the old fashioned mud wrestle ( but how can you argue for clash jumpers when everyones a nice shade of brown!! lol ) We certainly werent good. And we were at times definitely bad, but we werent consitantly terrible and we did find some sort of pride and gusto to keep at it and nearly steal the points. As MJ alludes...you see the real character on days like this...even if not the real abilities hehehe. It could have been much worse...and was last year. We've come so far havent we..I think !!
  17. 29815 . . ^
  18. where exactly is the law that says one MUST go to the footy.. we go there..or anywhere by choice..that choice is drawn from many considerations
  19. p.s at times he may need to be double teamed
  20. The simple reality is the that Son of God is quite a few levels above most of our team. The notion that we can effectively minimalise him ( GA ) by application of a single tagger will be frought with diabolical repercussions. A rotation of players.. McDonald, Bruce, Bartram will be needed to contain him ( GA) to only a good game . The roll on effect of an unrestricted Ablett just doesnt bear thinking about.
  21. the club has my money whether I turn up or not.. the argument of crowd numbers versus profitaility is not as clear cut as some might assume. Umpires are always changing their minds for the crowd arent they !! lol..
  22. god forbid that a forum for the public could be used as a public forum !!
  23. There are such devices as coaching and skills honing. It , to me seems pointless in attempting to advance the teams tactics and strategems when you dont have the basis skills in your kit bag. Just seems to me many of our team just arent getting any better in the foot department.
  24. some might argue what Bock did was in even poorer taste !!
  25. I know I am not alone in this concern. Despite what any will say in describing the games evolution from a relatively simple game of possession and position via contested plays into a faster moving, rolling massed encounter one thing has remained constant. Its a game where the ball is in the main kicked. In order for you to retain possession and indeed ultimately score foot skills must be good. In simple terms you ought to be ale to kick the ball efficiently and accurately to advantage. So why...WHY do we always seem to have such deplorable skills in the area. Our kicking is that bad at times you could line up a string of barns and they'd all be quite safe from attack !! So much changes in a game in you are actually kicking goals. So much also changes if you can kick and retain the ball. I sense so much is spent in terms of time and energy of the 'higher' understandings of the game that its all rendered moot if you cant do the most basic aspect of the game well..kicking a footy. Surely this ought to be the most basic requirement of our players and yet week in week out so many get a guernsey when they are totally inept at this skill. WHY ??
