I'm warming to getting Grundy to cover Max.

This year Max had knee issues, syndemosis, a bad back, op issues to go with his past 3 ACL's, hamstring issues and constantly being bashed around the head and felled to the ground.

I wouldn't mind a Geelong-Brad Ottens management plan for Max.  When Ottens started getting banged up they played him for 'big' games and sometimes put him in cotton wool for the finals.  Ottens' games in GF years were:

I just hope our policy of 'not resting' players is applied more judicially and we play Max less often keeping primed for Finals.  The blueprint is there with Ottens.

Then Grundy will be a very worthwhile investment.

Edit:  @RedlegI hadn't seen your post when I wrote this.  We are thinking along similar lines.

    Judiciously...

We'll always have that magical 10 minute period in the 3rd quarter of the grand final but let's get a couple of great picks for him and use them to bolster our 16-22 player zone that consistently has let us down this year.

    Could be Teddy Hopkins syndrome.

  3. If the queen places her bag to her right it means go get me 20 Rothmans, if to her left it neans ask Ross how his knee is these says . If  she sticks it on the ground it means get me a slab, but not that VB s**t.  (From A Royal Courtier's Guidebook to the VFL, Rich v Fitzroy at Waaaaaaverkey, 1971).

Sorry, but I come from the Allen Jakovich generation.

Gee, the similarities up forward from Trac and Jako are evident.

Maybe, this is the right time, especially with our problems with tall forwards, to push Ben Brown up the ground (CHF), and place Trac and Fritsch in the Goal square, with Kozzie/Spargs crumbing.

Or, open up the forward line completely, and let Trac go one on one, aka Jako.

We have not tried it yet.

Yes, and no set shots just wheel around and snaffle them through the big sticks.

I loved how Kozzy got himself to the front of the pack for the crumb. This is where he should be every single time.

The risk that Lever took was inspiring - the execution was poor, but he 100% identified the corridor prior to the stoppage as an outnumber. And finally a bounce that favored our boys.

It is one week earlier than last year where we snuck a victory from the jaws of defeat against the Cats... would love for this to reignite the fire of belief.

And it is Lever who also set up Gawn in the Geelong game r23 last year.

That's what we want an unbiased commentator commentating on a game and pissing off half the crowd.

And Alf Potter keeps panning to Michael Voss's reactions. I wonder whether Voss is coming to Brisbane next Friday night.

It is indeed a bleak weekend for the club in the narrow context of season 2022, but this othering is surely a few fries short of a happy meal. Apart from the obvious, (i.e. who in their right mind seeks facts on Demonland?), what the hell is an incorrect fact?

In the words of Tom Wills, it's a speculator.

On another note: does anyone have any clever tips for parking at the G? Normally, we train it in from Bala’ but want to make a quicker getaway tonight with the kids. Any ideas?

You need to park at a train station near your freeway then train it in last few stations.

I love Viney. He give 200% on the field. He bloody loves the club and his teammates and is the first one to step in every time. He leads by example on the field and never takes a backward step.

I can't talk to his leadership in terms of how he talks to players on the field and instructs, encourages and inspires them verbally.

The one aspect that I find Jack lacking is in his communication skills particularly when fronting the media. This is not an easy skill to master and you either have it or you don't. I don't know how important that is for a captain but your captain is the face of the club. A captain has to be a promoter of the club. It's a role that encompasses every aspect of the football side of the club and that includes communication.

Max is the perfect person for this role at the moment. Trac or Lever would be my next choices in that order.

I would hasten to disagree. Viney's media style is from the heart, with his message about the dark years being a regular (and relevant) refrain. I believe Viney keeps the big heads in line and speaks directly. His crash through heroics are well reflected every time he speaks.

when did we play The Filth in a "big match" like we are this Friday?

"Big match" would be a final - and I don't think we have played The Filth since 1964?, or playing a HnA match which means making a play for the finals or avoiding the wooden spoon.

So, I go back to 1976 to Bogan Park when we had to win to make the finals for the first time since 64 and The Filth had to win to avoid its first-ever wooden spoon.

It was even sweeter when we fixed up The Filth in 1976 18.20-128 ti 17.11-113 with Carman, Phil kicking 7 spectacular goals for The Filth (Carmen finished when we got him) and Biffin, Ray kicking 4 for us.

As The Filthstorian (that's a Filth historian) recalls:

"In 1976, Collingwood finished last for the first time in its history under coach Murray Weideman with six wins, more than any previous bottom side."

How sweet that The Filth weren't that bad but we give em a spoon even though we missed our on finals due to Footscray drawing with CarlTank at least we fixed up coach Weideman, who went round bashing our blokes in 1958 GF, as they sacked Weideman and then replaced him with Hafey ... Weideman could not stand that Hafey was the first "clean" (I mean not a coach from within The Filth) coach.

    I hold grudges!

BTW I have a soft spot for Sam Weideman but I just wish Sam would change his name!

1988 final at Waverley. I think Nathan Lyon kicked a massive torp in that game if I'm not mistaken.  Ok, i see this has alteady been noted.
