I picked up on that. Really liked it. Goodwins approach to this is really smart.

We are fighting the W.A diaspora. Scores 0-0 at the 85 minute mark. Nativist sentiment of gun players V POSSESSION IS 9/10ths of the law.

Jackson's in everything. 2nd and 3rd efforts are no problem for him.

Hassa wasn't from the West. He was recruited from Rutherglen and was a Merbein boy.
He was my first footy idol and I had his number 29 on my first ever Demons jumper!
I dont think the Q. Was return to the west..

Can anyone name one player who has gone back to the West willingly and played as well as he did in Melbourne?
Hassa Mann?

From Demonwiki:
After six seasons, Jackson walked out on Melbourne before the 1991 finals. Traded to Footscray for the Bulldogs' second pick in the 1991 Draft - which Melbourne used to select Phil Gilbert - Jackson didn't play a senior game at the Bulldogs after breaking his leg in a pre-season match against Richmond.
I forgot all that!

This must be what it's like reading the Herald Sun. 58 pages in and still no actual news.
I think Mark Wacko Jacko was the last Jackson to leave the Dees. We hung onto Ricky, he was a beauty. Mind you, Mark hadn't played in a barnstorming, premiership-defining season ...

Drew much inspiration from this morning, hopefully stuff likes this helps to get the Dees back on track:

Well i remember the '88 elimination against WCE, it was a shocking firdt half by the Dees, we swung Sean Wight forward in the second half and it was a different team, we stormed home at VFL park.

The greatest relief is the timing. We know the bones of the side are the best in the league. We have 10 weeks to find the right combination and for key players to find form. If I were an opposition supporter, I’d be annoyed this slump occurred now and not later in the season.
The forward line is a big concern. We badly need Ben Brown to perform as he did at the end of 2020 - the question is whether you allow him to find form at Melbourne or Casey. This time last season, Weidemann and Brown were trading places and it looks like the same thing is happening. If McDonald is a longterm injury the equation is different and I wonder if Weidemann would play more freely if he knew his place in the side wasn’t so vulnerable. (Obviously, not the ideal mindset for an elite athlete).
Petty seemed to drift to CHF last night and seemed comfortable: Perhaps not the answer but worth experimenting with in the same way we did with Tom McDonald 4-5 years ago.
IN: Weidemann, May, Hibberd
OUT: B Brown, M Brown, Hunt
BBB is currently trying to mark in the middle of a moshpit.

Time to give the Weid a potential reinvention and resurrection down back I reckon. A la Liam Jones, Paddy McCartin, James Sicily, and too many others to mention. It would also fit nicely into my (admittedly only briefly tested) theory that Harry Petty, as good as he is defensively, is our next power forward! 😳 Thoughts? (I’m ducking my head already).
Was thinking that myself.

On a positive note, there was a very healthy queue for memberships outside the ground and many, many little kids be-decked in the red and blue (inc. mine) walking up Brunton Rd (obviously unaware of our injury list). We got our little Demon apparel at half-time.

Pickett into the guts. Consistently won the ball in contests and showed footy smarts.

That mark at 5+ minutes very Schwartesque. Dillon, Parker and Schwarz all rolled into one.

You are all over this, well done. For mine I don't even bother to watch these games till they are over even though I have kayo.
Go Dees.
I think your KA has picked up on the rich heritage of grandstanding TV callers I suffered through my prime years: Mike Williamson, Peter Landy and Sandy Roberts.

Viney's mindset is second-to-none. He has been in the dark times and doesn't let the players get ahead of themselves.

Underwood's pre-game preparation . . . make sure I:
- mention the 2021 grand final (200 times),
- remember that Jackson is from WA,
- note that Brayshaw's brother is at Freeo,
- remind everyone that Jackson once played basketball,
- always refer to Ben Brown as Big Ben Brown,
- say that Jackson used to love Nic Nat,
- declare that May and Lever are good footballers,
- mention that Jackson used to support Meth Coke (10 times),
- observe that Kosi is a good footballer,
- suggest that Jackson will be keen to drive his price up today (five times).
You are all over this, well done. For mine I don't even bother to watch these games till they are over even though I have kayo.

Ryan should get a week for his bump on Bowey, but probably won't because Bowey didn't get injured.
McGovern should get two weeks for his elbow into Viney's throat, just like Viney got two weeks for his similar action to Sam Collins last year, but probably won't because no one cares about West Coast this year.
But Chandler will get a week for a clumsy tackle, simply because Foley got concussed.
Ryan already dished out an AFL-approved bump earlier this year, think a firm warm lettuce would be warranted in this instance.

Brayshaw and Jackson this year, Oliver the next.
Factoring in the current money they’re on. Then the following players contracts :
2022 Hibberd & Melk, both reitre
2023 May, will be 31, possibly play on but he’s had his payday and you’d assume he’d be on a lot less.
2024 Brown & Tmac, both will be 32 and that might see them both out.
Obviously we’re drafting players in who would be on minimum money / trading players who may take less to be at the club, all part of the ongoing circle. But in short there’s enough for all of our stars to have their payday unless off course a rival clubs offer something ridiculous and one of our players choose to take it.
There's no reason to assume these 3 players will suddenly drop off.

W.A go home factor: 1-1, thus far = Tingay stayed, Farmer went. I am putting down Big Bob Johnson and Hassa Mann as irrelevant, they didn't go home they just went.

Good news, I just checked into Gus N Gawny 50th celebration podcast and they haven't rebadged it 'Gus is Gawny" as yet.

On a side note, there are a little of little Demons coming to the footy. One dad (and mum) was telling his boy that he could come to the footy 'but would have to show commitment'. I think there is a genuine groundswell of young Demons who don't show up in the stats, just yet.
