Weird did much more than those stats suggest - good physical presence in the ruck, several clean taps to advantage. Showed improvement without getting among the goals. Played his role.

I wouldn't be reaching any firm conclusions like Lever needs Petty around him on the basis of one game. I just think Lever was a tad underdone and less certain in reading the flight and the bounce. More fumble. That will go with match time.

Not so. The number on afl.com is wrong. The scoreboard posted 39K which is 6-8K more than typical for us and Hawks. The 39K figure looked right too

That is soooooo good. Wish I'd thought of it. As for the WEG poster, I love it. It's classic and evokes the posters of the '50s and '60s whereas Mark Knight's effort is some sort of weird horror movie scene. Of course I have both.

They are not disparaging remarks. He says that the work colleague is good to talk to and good company. But he then makes a comment about that individual's sexual orientation that is both needlessly explicit and inappropriate in a public setting. I have heard many times both men and women express similar sentiments of disappointment about the orientation of another person along the lines of regretting they "bat for the other team". At least part of Morris' problem is the explicit way he described the person concerned and his further comment about their performance, and the fact that a private conversation has been leaked. Clearly, it was malicious and it has had the intended result. A further problem for Morris is that the person he was talking about may have kept their orientation a private matter. Times have changed I know, but the rush for the high moral ground on this matter by people who have almost certainly expressed similar views in the past is unedifying. I'm no fan of Morris but to lose your career over something like this is to pay a heavy price. It's not for me - or most others - to cast the first stone. Sympathy goes to the innocent victim in all this.

I think he's a goose, but I haven't seen that he's done anything that is the wrong way about being a journalist in the AFL. What's the right way? Only writing "nice" stories? PS: Having been alerted to the Jesse Hogan tweet I'll put a question mark on my own statement about right/way/wrong/way. If he used a separate internal and privileged role at any club to warehouse material to promote his journalism then he is a grub.

I agree. They are precious, the Bulldogs. They have a chip on the shoulder over their frequent loser status and unlike us, no golden era for consolation. They also know, deep down, that they were extraordinarily lucky to win in 2016 when everything, especially the first ever end of season bye and key injuries to their opposition in the prelim, eased their way to the flag. But it's the way they ride on umpiring interpretations that has given them a sense of entitlement. They have been the most positively umpired club ever since Beveridge arrived that they now think they deserve an armchair ride. And they stole our bloody sponsor so I hope we continue to make a meal of them.

It's important to make a statement, not only to the Bullies but to the competition. Get the season off to a flying start. But it's no certainty. The GF aside, we split the honours last year with us losing the second contest due to failing to take advantage of our opportunities. The two we won on the other hand saw us start fast and take them by the collar early. A solid win here would be some way towards establishing a psychological advantage over a team that is pretty good at believing its own hype, so there's plenty to gain beyond the four points if we get it done.

Turned a $2 million profit in a year with almost no spectators and laid the basis for another profit in 2022 with a $4 million boost to merchandise income...early signs would be that we are making the flag pay. Membership numbers will be the next signal and are promising so unless you can point to something concrete I am lost to what you are getting at.

Negative. Cool. Players and supporters were not supposed to mix but a couple of people at my table took some selfies with several players, so if you were willing to push it you could get access. I did not try to seek out any of the current list. I did share a urinal visit with Beamer and Trapper who were comparing their games records during their respective times at Brisbane so I could have mixed with a couple of former players, but opted not to be a fan boy, especially with what we had in our hands at the time.
