  1. There is still room in footy for pure accidents and this was one of those. There was no time for a straight arm fend, so he went with a forearm fend, but the north player was stumbling so the forearm bounced off his shoulder into his chin. No time at all for Fritta to adjust, meaning he hadn't breached his duty of care. This was as straightforward decision as they come I reckon despite how bad it look in slow-mo.
  2. The marking and goal-kicking I'll enjoy. I'll even be ok if he flops around a bit and milks some free-kicks, BUT I'll never be fine with that silly long run up, even if he does kick accurately. So unnecessary.
  3. According to Angus in a post match interview last Saturday, this Melbourne side lick their lips when it rains, so no worries there. As long as the team remain focused and don't get ahead of themselves, they'll be ok.
  4. I loved the amount of times our small forwards made telling plays on the last line of defence. A desperate tackle by ANB in Q1 and a spoil by Spargo on Lynch in Q2 come to mind.
  5. You really should watch the replay in full bcause right now you look very silly. Kozzy was trying to make a lead when the Richmond player round-housed him and hit kozzy in the head with his arm. That was when kozzy retaliated. Luckily the umpires saw the initial high contacted and awared the free kick. During the wrestle, the tiger player was leaning on Kizzies face/head with his forearm which was got Jones wo riled up. Kozzy isn't a sniper at all. The tactics of the tiger overstepped the mark and he retaliated which is fair enough. The issue Goodwin had with him was the pointing at the scoreboard.
  6. I will only ever call him Weeds. I will over think it otherwise.
  7. Nathan Jones 300th Dusty Martins 250th It's rare to have both sides celebrating such huge milestones in the same game. How each side, but in particular how we, cope with that in addition to the blockbuster occasion will be another test of our developing maturity. The urge to play well for Jones will be there, but how it is harnessed positiviely will be key to the outcome. I'd love to be confident enough to tip Melbourne, but I can't bring myself to this week. ?? Tigers by 23
  8. It's not meant to be "SheRmons" supporters, as in Sherman tanks is it?
  9. Yes, we'd all love to win it, but Saturday night is not a must win game. A must win game against Richmond could come later in the year. Maybe we shouldn't give them a look at our forwardline with both BBB and Weeds in it. Let's give May another week so everyone knows they're not seeing our best defensive structure. Same with Fritta. The must do this week is for our midfield to withstand the Richmond pressure and to able to apply effective pressure of our own. In doing so, we will give Jones a milestone game he desserves, win or lose. Let's not give them a free look against our best forwards and backs. So maybe just the one change... IN: Weeds OUT M. Brown
  10. That comment has way more to do with his potential than actual output so far. Opposition coaching groups wouldn’t be putting a heap of time into matching him up at the moment.
  11. Not yet, but mainly because given the circumstances of the first 5 rounds, we really haven't played an oppisition of substance. All our oppisitons have either had pre-exisitng significant injuries, injuries on the day (GWS) or just been simply a poor side or a side in really bad form. Not the fault of the MFC, but it doesn mean I can't yet fully trust them.
  12. I think we need to be very careful about when, and at what rate, we bring in players that have been out for long periods (Weeds and BBB etc) or unproven AFL players (Bedford, Chandler etc). Unless injury forces our hand, I'd hate us to bring in more than one of those types at a time, especially against a team like Richmond. The gulf in quality from VFL to AFL is bigger than ever thanks to Covid last year. A player dominating at VFL level could very well come in and struggle to get a kick at AFL level. If May and/or Fritta are fully fit and ready to go, bring them in. But definetely no more than one of Weeds/BBB/Bedford/anyone else who is pushing to come in too. At whose expense? I really don't know. I feel LJ could really, relly benefit from a multi-week run at Casey. Like, it would be best for his long term development type of benefit. But in doing so, do we lose too much of what he provides as back-up ruckman? Tough week to be a selector.
  13. Thanks for all the reports. Great to have so many players pushing for senior selection but I hope we are cautious bringing them through. There has always been a big difference VFL to AFL but given the non-season last year for VFL, that gulf is bigger than ever.
  14. I’ve noticed that. Players even shaping to look sideways or hand pass get call play on without actually moving anywhere.
  15. I've been calling for the introduction of this rule for many years. It had become was to easy to block the corridor by standing metres off the actualy mark. Forced the ball to be kicked down the line resulting in boring footy. Still some work to be done with the umpires firstly ensuring the man on the mark gets in the correct position before being told to "stand" and quicker and louder calls of "play on" when the player with the ball moves off the line. Love where it's heading though.
  16. Mark Williams burnt the new recruits birth certificates?!?! (listen right to the end) He certainly is a different unit.
  17. Best post ever
  18. Trac Oliver May Langdon Gawn Salem and Viney close.
  19. I think our list is actually ok. It's all above the shoulders for mine. When we play poorly, it seems to me to be the effort, composure and concentration of our best 10 or 15 players (the ones who are automatic selections if fit) that cause it, not the ability of the players who were in and out of the team all year. Get the players heads right, and I think we'll improve.
  20. I can never understand the blaming of our fringe players after a calamity like last night. Very few players at all would get a pass mark for that performance, but I feel way more let down by the 10 or so players that take home 50% of our salary cap than by the guys that we all know are 18-30th on the list. Weideman. Melksham. Salem. Lever. Fritsch. Brayshaw. Viney. PETRACCA!!! Oliver. They were all woeful. If our best players turn it up like they did last night, what hope do players like OMac, Spargo and Smith have of changing things?
  21. I’ve seen Melbourne do it also. Not sure how it’s arranged. Maybe the hone team get dibs or something. Quite common to see though.
  22. So after a game where we get smashed around stoppages, smashed on the spread, smashed in transition, and smashed in skills, let's blame a guy who's 6'4. Makes sense.
  23. The umpire calling advantage on AVB when clearly he didn't want it was appalling umpiring. Melksham's movement on the mark was an obvious 50m as there has been all year. My family and I could not believe what we were seeing. Incredibly dumb.
  24. I’m pointing my finger at everyone under 6’2. Skills, setups, defending, missed tackles. Beaten comprehensively by an mid-table at best team.
  25. I disagree that TMac (or whoever our number 2 big forward is) should be measured on how many goals he kicks. In our team, the 2nd tall forwards job is be too dangerous to allow the 2nd defender leave him to double team Weeds, to not ever be outmarked and to do some ruck work. Any goals is a bonus.
