  1. Now that's an idea worth considering. We have not had a gun CHF for .....? can't remember one.
  2. And that would be what? Maybe Watts has a bigger tank; that would be about it. IMO, no. You are born with toughness/hardness/desire for a contest, or you are not. Hurley has it, Watts doesn't.
  3. I posted this in another thread. Still relevent. I have added the emphasis to the last sentence just now.
  4. I would think Bail will get that job. He was tagged by Raines last week - no player of any note. I don't think he gets the 1st tagger. Davey's other real weekness is 'no right foot'. The FD has to come up with a way of getting value from him.
  5. Could it be the rest of the team don't "trust" Watts. Garry Lyon wrote an article about AFL/VFL reserves sides and discussed the Filth, who had ready made back-half replacements that included Simon Buckley, and that the team "trusted them". Don't know how you go about getting "trust" except to really earn your spot. Maybe Watts needs a decent stint at Casey to earn respect. Just a thought. Throw away one liners in the press suggest Watts has little respect outside the MFC What about Tapscott into the mid-field, at least for bursts? (With MacDonald an in. ED: maybe Pettard, Ricky made his name early as a defender.)
  6. 6. Jamar 5. Moloney 4. Rivers 3. Gysberts 2. Jurrah 1. Bail
  7. Trade him. GWS?
  8. Watts? Only if he can develop the hardness, the appetite to compete. The jury is still out after 2+ years.
  9. Early days and hindsight etc, but I suggest he is a type of forward we need: talent and hardness. How his character turns out, only time will tell.
  10. Much of what you say is hard to argue against. The disappointing thing is the element of deja vu about it. The most disappointing thing about the game for me was not the lack of clearances by the midfield, but the lack of any defensive pressure by the midfield. In the 3rd qtr, Hawthorn repeatedly ran the ball from their back half to the forward half with hardly a Melbourne player being seen, let alone applying pressure or tackling. Who takes responsibilty for this? It's not new. And clearly, we lack naturally hard players with talent - by my reckoning we have only 5: Sylvia, Scully, McKenzie, Bail and Tapscott. (Moloney and Jones are "tough" but are not "bone hard" and lack talent.) Until we get more (and on the park), we will not improve against the better sides. ED: we desperately need a "bone hard" forward with talent, of any height. And the suggestion by some that we had run out of gas by half-timer. FFS And don't get me started on Davey's call for tempo footy near the end of the 2nd qtr, a turning point if ever there was one (disgracefully self important - Davey is absolutely no leader by a long shot; what he needs to be is the consistently very good player he could be) and Bailey and Green talking up Hawthorn after the game (winners can grin and losers can please themselves; who gives a rats arse what lowly Melbourne thinks of a top side - talk about subservient). Come to think of it, who gives a rats arse what Melbourne thinks of any other side.
  11. The is a video interview of Rohan Bail on MFC web site where he talks about "their kick-in structure" FFS. From where I sit, they haven't had one for 3+ years.
  12. 6 - Bail 5 - Tapscott 4 - Martin 3 - ? 2 - ? 1 - ?
  13. ABC commentators did pick up on it - suggested Rioli was in trouble.

    Jonesy

Its easy: Jones is not in our best 22.
  15. Irrelevent Re-read your post. Schwab is in the wrong, as is the MFC. Trasparency does not make it right. As I said, transparency does not make it right. If you run a club, you do NOT organise a loan for yourself. Simple. Easy. End of story. <Sigh>
  16. Then you don't understand what a conflict of interest is. It doesn't mean that what has happened is illegal or untoward. It means that an individual has an advantage over others that is IN CONFLICT WITH THEIR JOB/ROLE which gives them an unfair advantage over others. For example, if I approached the MFC board for a loan, I am sure I would have been knockde back; he wasn't. And that advantage is NOT part of his job description. It aint hard.
  17. The facts are Schwab sort and recieved a loan (market % rate and secured) from the business he is CEO of. Be it open and transparent or not, there is a conflict of interest. Plain and simple. It contravenes good corporate governance. This is a significant black mark against Schwab and the MFC board. He and they know better. One wonders how the AFL let it happen (as I understand it, they were informed). 3rd world.
  18. From Y_M: Bruce out, anybody in.
  19. Agree 100%. Nothing to do with Schwab, but if the loan is secured etc, why not go to a bank. Unless....... I know not what, but even a bridging loan would be better. This is very odd and not just a little disturbing. The board should not have agreed. Fullstop.
  20. Just watching the replay. Our socks are blood red, but the yoke on the jumper is decidedly pink, not blood red. Most disappointing.
  21. 973143 only has 5 members - better demonlanders than nobodies.
  22. FWIW I think the swans will win; not close but not a blow out.
  23. Unbelievable. Don't forget he has a hand injury (broken?) which makes him 3 weeks away as of today, so he won't even be available for rnd 1. I just shake my head in disbelief. FFS
  24. Y_M? Your first post, and you want to start WW III? Mods - kick this guy.
  25. You should put the above in your signature. Sigh. FFS Fundamentally sad and oh so wrong. Footballers play principally because they like playing footy, which is a team game; be that team Casey or MFC or .... It is a team game; you play with and for your team mates. In the 2010 VFL grand final, Corey Jones and Josh Smith both played knowing they had been delisted/retired; Chris Johnson also played probably aware he would be delisted, and Leigh Harding retired soon after. And there are others eg Steve Brown. And you know that? For sure? Sure they do. But they do so having played with dignity and respect for the team they have played for.
