  1. Sportsbet had us at $1.55 before the Hawthorn game....that we haven't gone out a bit since is maybe surprising, but don't forget, the Saints don't have Mantagna and Hayes for game 1. Ed: Stevens out too....don't know what saints will do for a mid-field. Most other teams playing the saints would be $1.05 or shorter
  2. I don't think Toumpas, Viney, JKH and Blease will play. I'd add Clisby, Kent (if healthy), Byrnes, M Jones to your squad, Ed: Forgot to delete JKH.
  3. Seem to remember Sheedy was a great fan of Grgic as well.So it goes. If Roos had been coach, Toumpas would still be in the twos, possibly getting a gig late 2014, same as Salem probably won't get a game til 2015 at best. Roos in yesterdays presser made a point of saying in the past players were getting games when they shouldn't; not any more.
  4. Fond memories for me as well. If Mann had not kicked that goal, we would not have made the 4. The ladder was very tight that year.. So fluke goal -> make the 4 -> win flag (with a flukish goal kicked by back pocket).
  5. About M Jones, hasn't he got a new 2 yr contract? Seems the club rates him Their trading has been bazaar, dillusional. In a team full of kids and pensioners, they trade away McEvoy - 24 yr old and a dominant big man. Wonder what Savage thinks now - bet he'd rather be a best 25 at Hawks than the basket case he has arrived at. The dwarf thing was a none to subtle put-down of Watters I think. Nice. And Watters was still coach at the time. Not a happy place. Expect them to finish last.
  6. My team name is "Crazy"....thought I was in.....can you make it so.
  7. I like your post. Players new to the club seemed to have been impressed (surprised?) at the fitness of the players. Roos also was impressed, but said the players were fit athletically, but not gamewise, So he is using that fitness base to real advantage. Think you are right on the money Akum. (I always thought the players looked like they didn't know what to do, where to go etc. We now have someone who can show them, teach them. Upside could be bigger than we think.) Ed: spelling
  8. Not sure where this rumour arose. Lyon arrived at the Saints when all their gun early draft picks from early 2000s were starting to show something. Pretty sure it was reported that the Saints drafting (or was it development?) during Lyon's time was a disaster - think it was Waters when he arrived at the Saints, who said that there were virtually no players still at the club from the 2005-2009 ? drafts. Thus he had a doughnut list age age/experience wise. And now Lyon has taken over a very good list already up and about. Perhaps Lyon is best at getting results from established players.
  9. The most interesting post on this 104 post topic.
  10. Watching the brits get humiliated in the ashes has some similarities with the MFC for mine. So bad as to be unbelievable Playing beach cricket at the end vs disorganised rabble (MFC) Quality players performing poorly Unwatchable
  11. I liked the bit (paraphrasing): " they are good athletes, when they're running, their biggest deficiency is their game style running that we have to get up to speed". Implies a fit team that didn't know how to play, which about equals what I have seen game day.
  12. Back to Brown. Suns offered him an absurd deal- $s & years. He took it.......... Hawks got a 3rd round compensation and were very pleased to get it. Has the penny dropped? Brown, IMHO, is not best 22 in any team in AFL. And his father, Mal, was/is a very scary guy.....lol
  13. Jesus, Tapscott is a massive unit, almost a caricature . The Incredibles(?) come to mind....lol Ed: sp
  14. Is that the liquid or powder variety?......lol
  15. Actually, I think our history is of recruiting skinny kids without either an appetite for the contest or a work ethic (or both). Don't think that's happened in this draft.
  16. KOLODJASHNIJRoos wants height in mid-field; no pure mids with height except maybe Lennon, and he's a bean pole.
  17. Seems to me that most years Vince has been floated as a possible trade, even in his better years - in the press at least. Don't know what that's all about.
  18. Views on Morton were very split at the time. About half the clubs had him as a (early) first round pick; the other half as not even in top 20. Sadly, we were one of the former.
  19. At least Bielke-Peterson had the excuse of a massive gerrymander.
  20. Lots of junior footy. 2 premiership years in Canberra footy (Manuka) Year in SANFL - 2s only (Sturt: Oatey, Bagshaw, Whelan, Murphy, Davies et al) Bit of Adelaide amateurs after
