He's well past his best, having peaked in 2000.
  2. They also left out my rating, which is 20. Like Shane McAdam, I won't be playing for Melbourne this year.

I'm sure that @old dee remembers it fondly. After all, it was the year that he finally retired from the work force and was able to collect the Aged Pension.
  4. Lou never penned a line in his life, but relied on a ghostwriter* throughout his newspaper career (most notably Tom Prior and later on Greg Baum). That particular headline would have been written by a sub editor. * nb - NOT the @Ghostwriter we Demonlanders rely upon.
  5. I'd welcome a win in our first game against GWS by any margin ... even a Bee's D.

28 days, I think @waynewussell. Bring it on.

Is that Ronald or Donald Matthews? In any case, he never went on to play for Melbourne seniors. There was a Don Matthews who played 30 games for South Melbourne in 1956 - 58 but it couldn't be the same bloke as the letter was an invitation for kids to try out. Nobody called Ron Matthews ever played VFL. I wonder whatever became of the addressee in the letter. Where was it sourced, @Whispering_Jack?
  9. Melbourne Football Club 'String Stress?
  10. Was the meal buttered lamb? It was buttered lamb, wasn't it!
  11. Mmmm, buttered lamb. I'd like some of that, please.
  12. I don't know about that. Surely they'd be trying to impress the future coach this season. Added: What would be their reason for leaving anyway? Loyalty to Kenny?
  13. I'll see your 1975 and raise you by ten to 1965, the year I started following Melbourne.
  14. This is Van Ruin's touring bus.
  15. Maybe not at the time, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating as they say. Hogan went to Freo and stunk it up (we got a Premiership fullback) while Harmes is fringe/depth only.
  16. Thanks for your response, @dazzledavey36. That's more names than I realised, but Nibbler would be the only one we didn't want to lose at the time. I'm sure we'd all love to have Hogan back playing for us now, but it was the correct move then.
  17. Apart from Nibbler, can you name the others on this "long list"?
  18. Dusty was referring to Disco Turner wasn't he?
  19. Ed Langdon would qualify.
  20. If I said I knew the correct answer, would I be accused of telling a Whopper?

I'm adamant he'll stand and deliver.
