FREE AGENTS - 2023
Trivia question for the future. Who was the first free agent to change clubs in 2023? James Jordon (Melbourne to Sydney) for an end of second round draft pick. • Ben McKay (North Melbourne) headed to Essendon • Tom Doedee (Adelaide) has chosen Brisbane • Joel Hamling (Fremantle) is expected to nominate Sydney • Matthew Flynn (GWS Giants) has chosen West Coast Eagles • Todd Goldstein (North Melbourne) is off to Essendon • Scott Lycett (Port Adelaide) St Kilda, Geelong and Melbourne* have shown some interest • Jade Gresham (St Kilda) is set to play at Essendon * unlikely now that it looks like the Demons are getting Tom Fullarton from Brisbane.

Some good things out of AFL Trade Radio but to show their desperation for news … this has nothing whatsoever to do with trading …

FREE AGENTS - 2023
One of the first Free Agency moves could be James Jordon to Sydney. The return to Melbourne is likely to be modest. James Jordon Unrestricted free agent – Melbourne to Sydney Jordon is a rare case as a younger unrestricted free agent and holds his status because he was delisted by the Demons earlier in his career. The 22-year-old made 17 AFL appearances in 2023, but six of them came as the starting substitute. A Victorian, he’s believed to move to the harbour city in search of greater opportunities. The nomination was reported last week by AFL Media’s Cal Twomey but is yet to be confirmed by either the Swans or Melbourne The First Free Agency Moves That Could Be Made On Friday

Melbourne is hogging the limelight but for all the wrong reasons with Clayton Oliver hogging the limelight. • What would it take to get a deal done for Clayton Oliver? • Top 5 destinations for Clayton Oliver • Josh Gabelich on the Port ruck situation • Some murmurs on Melbourne's Harrison Petty • Callum Mills and his off-season mishap There has also been some talk about the trade value for Brodie Grundy with the pundits suggesting that his trade value has plummeted because Melbourne refused to pick him in the finals.

The Clarrie story was no1 on the AFL Trade Radio hit parade yesterday. The question is whether it will linger into the trade period which doesn’t start till next Monday?

Not Melbourne but this was the VFA Grand Final of 1907, after which the VFL admitted Richmond and University. Imagine if they admitted Williamstown and West Melbourne instead?

It would appear that according to Kane Cornes, Melbourne is under great pressure in this trade period.

Irish Recuits
Melbourne was the pioneer of introducing Irish footballers into the game when the late Ron Barassi was our coach in the 1980s. There are three outstanding Irish women footballers in our AFLW team and yet … for some reason (and it irks me), the club appears not to be interested in looking at young Irish players for our current men’s team. Tucked away in this article is the story of four AFL clubs getting the jump on the other clubs in regard to recruiting four talented young potential Irish players. Roos target pick one, Dee to go on, big Dog to stay FOUR CLUBS TRIAL IRISH TALENTS ESSENDON, Richmond, Geelong and Hawthorn will host the four Irish prospects for trials this week ahead of their testing at the AFL Draft Combine. The AFL has brought out four talents – James McLaughlin, Eoin McElholm, Odran Murdock and Conor Corbett – to trial at clubs and also take part in the three-day Combine later this week. The players were at the Bombers on Monday, with trials also to take place at the Tigers, Cats and Hawks through the week before the Combine commences on Friday at the Melbourne Park and MCG precinct.

Ones to Watch: 2023 AFL National Draft Combine- North Melbourne Assistance Package
The AFL could fix that by making an announcement to clarify what it means when it says something is subject to review.- AFL Trade Radio
AFL Trade Radio today - a lot of rehashing stories already covered elsewhere. Of Melbourne interest, some discussion on a potential replacement for Brodie Grundy including mention of Flynn from GWS (who apparently wants to go to WA) and the fact that Verrall and Farris-White are a long way off being ready to give Max a hand in the ruck. Also a speculative multi-club that ends up with Melbourne getting Tom Lynch for pick 5. That deal would leave us with yet another expensive forward on the sidelines.- From the vault
