Bit depressing that we had nobody nominated given we're supposed to have a young list. The closest we got was one week when JKH was in contention for a nomination but he missed out to someone else. Perhaps next year with someone like Jesse Hogan or whoever we pick up with pick 2 if we manage to keep it.

You would think that Middleton J would hold off with his decision until Essendon's season is over. Hopefully, we'll hear from him on Monday morning -
We all know of their deficiencies (especially Robinson who I can't stand personally and is a DH) but let's see what Roosy does. If he could get them playing disciplined football at their best, they would definitely improve our list.

FWIW, Jeff Garlett and Mitch Robinson have reportedly been told that the club will seek to trade them during the trade period.

Outrageous.

Nutbean, some of those things applied but in the main the choices were poor. We definitely took players about who not enough homework was done by our recruiters and we learned the hard way that some of our players weren't up to it psychologically when other recruiters who knew steered away from them. We all know who they are and I'm willing to bet that of those who haven't fallen by the wayside yet, most will be gone by the end of November if not before. -
But wait a minute, wasn't Gary Glitter also involved in ... never mind

Spot on Red. The choices made by Barry Prendergast were pathetic. I think it's hilarious that only one of the three coaches plus a couple of stand ins who coached these players is blamed for their failings when in fact, it was our entire drafting, trading and list management strategy from the time Prendergast came until he left that was abysmal beyond belief. The story about Talia isn't the only one that stood out. Franky31 tells the story of promises made to Rory Sloane that weren't fulfilled. We also could have taken Shuey and Hannebery but the one that still has me shaking my head was when we had the opportunity to get David Zaharakis as a late pick in the 2008 draft as a bottom ager. Sad. -

The reality is that Dank has no such evidence and that he's delusional. Any decent human being who had evidence that could clear either the NRL or AFL players or both would already have given that information to ASADA. -

They've been suspended (the NRL players) but Dank promises to come to their rescue ~ I won't leave suspended Shark players high and dry says Dank Of course, that won't happen until well after they've served their suspensions. -
You just jinxed the Aussie cricketers with that number. Lost overnight to Zimbabwe.

His dad's name's Peter Maynard but perhaps "Max" might be his nickname.Peter didn't play many games for us before crossing over to Glenelg so definitely no father/son. Brayden almost became Adelaide's first father son player

St. Kilda has announced that James Gwilt and Clinton Jones will not be offered new deals. Where's the Clinton Jones thread?

The Dragons win by 9 points. From all accounts Angus Brayshaw was one of the best. Others associated with Melbourne who did well were Tyler Roos (yes - son of Roosy) and Brayden Maynard. 2014 TAC Cup 2014 Sandringham Dragons 3.3.21 6.6.42 10.9.69 12.10.82 Murray Bushrangers 2.2.14 5.4.34 7.8.50 10.13.73 Goals Sandringham Dragons Brayshaw Pavlou Wilkinson 2 Balic McLaren Maynard Neiwand Parsons Slater Murray Bushrangers Howe 3 Brodie Brown Drummond Howard Mellington Schache Simpkin Best Sandringham Dragons Brayshaw Pavlou Manteit Fordham Balic James Murray Bushrangers Howe Drummond Hodgson Mellington Holman Muller

Anyone watching St. Kilda demonstrating to Melbourne exactly how to convincingly tank a game to finish last. There won't be any of this losing as a result of an opposition goal from 50 metres out after the siren stuff. They're already 44 points down and it's not half time yet.

It's early Dawes but he's not Gawn yet. What this means is that there's still a risk of an ACL if the surgeon notices anything untoward with his ACL graft when the damaged meniscus is repaired. At least it's not as bad as was first thought and with luck he'll be right to go in early 2015 pre season training.

Sandy Dragons lead by 8 points at half time. Goal just kicked by Brayden Maynard whose father played for the Demons and works for the club.

The update is that Jake Lovett is playing for the Stingrays. He's been out with a foot injury but made a successful comeback with his local side last week and was picked today as an interchange. He's a bottom ager which means he's not eligible to be drafted until next year. 2014 TAC Cup 2014 Western Jets 1.2.8 5.6.36 7.8.50 10.11.71 Dandenong Stingrays 4.3.27 7.4.46 9.7.61 13.8.86 Goals Western Jets Manivong Menadue Payne 2 Coletta Holdsworth Spiteri Viola Dandenong Stingrays Weitering 3 Tomkins Wilson 2 Capiron Dale Gray Lamb Mullane Williams Best Western Jets Menadue Monk Viojo Duggan Carter Myers Dandenong Stingrays Moloney Harnett Mullane Kempster Weitering Pawel

Hoping it's not an ACL but if it is, there's no way known that its career over for Max. He's still young enough and knows what it takes to recover from such an injury. Max Bailey played in a premiership after 3 knee recos and our own Ox won a b & f.

The morning after the end of the season and the question is how do we sum it all up? To call it a success because we had double the number of wins, had an improved percentage and could have won a lot more would be wrong. After 14 rounds, we had 4 wins and were a game ahead of Richmond. They won their last nine games, we lost all of ours. We really needed to do a lot better than to hit the wall in the last month and our losses to Brisbane and the GWS Giants were heartbreaking. As indicated by Roosy early in these season we concentrated on improving the defensive side of our game and we certainly made some strides in that regard. We were of course, badly disadvantaged by injuries to so many players in the preseason, in particular our talls and key position players. The retirement of Mitch Clark and the back injury to Jesse Hogan left our forward line in tatters and, even when we started to concentrate more on our attacking side, we were pretty well bereft of players capable of kicking goals. Our best for the year was Chris Dawes with 20. Dean Kent showed some good signs late. But as good as our improvement was to our defensive side, it was this area that also caused disappointment, particularly later in the season. Our lack of skills was always evident and we often hurt ourselves by the way were unable to distribute the ball when coming out of defence. Our midfield improved which is only natural given that this area was the main focus of our recruiting. The trade which secured Tyson/Salem worked well as was the recruiting of Vince, Cross and to a lesser extent Michie and Reilly. However, as Roosy said in his press conference last night, the midfield is still the area we need to show continual improvement. We have youth to come in and develop and we have Hogan, Trengove, Toumpas and Spencer as players who had injury interrupted seasons to come in to improve the team - virtually as recruits and Viney has lots of improvement in him as well. Nathan Jones was a great team leader and it was unfortunate that Jack Grimes couldn't step up to the plate with him - I don't think he was ever 100% right. The Frawley situation was problematic all year. He really didn't inspire whether up forward or down back. My guess is that he's gone and if that happens, the hole in our defence won't be as great as one would have imagined a year ago . There's also a cloud over the club following Max Gawn's knee injury. The outlook is a bit grim but here's hoping. There's a lot of pessimism out there as a result of our poor finish to the season but I don't believe things are as bad as they look. Roosy made it clear yesterday the players are facing a tough pre season on the track. They are currently running fit but not yet match fit and he promises that will change. Roosy also said that every player on the list is open for trading. Following the successful pre season recruiting campaign of last year, with some high draft picks and with a deep war chest available after the departure of Clark, most likely Frawley and probably 6 to 8 others, we can expect the playing list of 2015 to be substantially different to that of 2014. I think also that with the changes in personnel, Roosy will be able to work on the improvements in our defensive game of this year and add to it a vast improvement in ball movement and the attacking side of our game, glimpses of which were evident last night.

This came in late but worth reading ~ VFL Player Review Round 20. I can't fathom how Dom Barry made it as an emergency for last night's game on the back of that, although it's probably a sign that most of those left with AFL experience who didn't make it ahead of Barry, have half a foot out of the door.

For those who venture down to Visy Park today there's the possible opportunity of catching a glimpse of the future when the Dandenong Stingrays take on the Western Jets. Jake Lovett, son of Brett Lovett, has been selected on the Stingrays' extended interchange bench so there's no guarantee that he'll be out there when the game starts at 11.30 this morning. Lovett has played just five TAC Cup games, the last on 12 July but was very impressive on debut. I can't make it today but will try to update you with information if my spies live up to their promises of keeping me informed.

One of the people we had dinner with last night was a Collingwood supporter who remarked that Goldsack's performances in the last 6 to 8 weeks of the season were well below par for him. He seems to think that its possible that the drop off in form could coincide with the offer from Port Adelaide. I thought the idea had a familiar ring about it.

Accusing players of being scared on a forum like this is out of order. Thread closed.
