  1. According to Demonwiki, a Bill Lonie was a follower/forward who signed for the Demons in 1951 but was hurt in a motor accident and didn't play. A policeman by trade, Lonie joined VFA side Brighton in 1954.I seem to recall a player with the same surname (perhaps the father of the Lonie twins?) trying out with the club in the 1970's but can't find any proof.
  2. The squad for the young guns game ~ Young guns squad The game has been played annually for a few years now to showcase players mainly from the VFL but also other leagues not in the TAC Cup system. One of last year's squad was Jayden Hunt who was subsequently drafted by Melbourne.
  3. Well, don't blame me - I gave it a massive plug on the Mitch Clark tread last night but it doesn't seem to have attracted any more customers.
  4. I don't know why but we had the same pattern last year. The better the player, the less views and comments. Strange.
  5. It means we're committed to taking him and we're reasonably certain that we'll pick him up for our second rounder. He's an All Australian Under 18 and has been regularly picking up more than 20 disposals for Glenelg seniors in the SANFL. The father/sons are determined at the beginning of the trade and free agency period so he'll be available for a full pre season come what may.
  6. A little bit of history in this Rohan Connolly article from November 2011 that was dug up by a Saintsational poster ~ Bigger Bombers for bruising battles Three years later and those bigger bodies can't run out four quarters of football and the real bruising battles are being fought out in courtrooms.
  7. Tweets from 3AW on the Josh Mahoney interview:- @3AWisfootball: Josh Mahoney: "Mitch has moved from five or six months ago being highly unlikely of playing AFL again to now being a possibility." @3AWisfootball: Josh Mahoney: "We need to get as much information as we can about how serious [Clark] is about returning to AFL and how ready he will be." @3AWisfootball: Matthew Lloyd: "I'm not sure that Melbourne feel like they need Mitch Clark back at their club. It's all about compensation now."
  8. My viewpoint this morning ~ nothing that's be revealed since has changed it -

  10. And if you're a guest who supports another club and you're interested in what eight years of unmitigated failure and humiliation does to the human psyche, why not visit our "The No T$ No B$ Thread" to find out what it's all about?
  11. Colin Young as per The Run Home's tweets @TheRunHome: Young says Clark will speak to Roos and the club this week - he says may have already done so today @TheRunHome: Young labels speculation Clark was going to end up at Fremantle as "a joke" @TheRunHome: Young: "Mitch wouldn't walk away from the Melbourne Football Club without them being compensated" @TheRunHome: Young says he didn't think he'd retire or come back for that matter but he'd be comfortable with Mitch returning to the Dees or another club @TheRunHome: LISTEN | Mitch Clark's manager Colin Young tells @therunhome a comeback from the tall forward isn't guaranteed https://t.co/YI42ZpGsAB

  14. Sorry to hear that you had a problem with depression. However, as I do charitable work with an organisation that helps people suffering mental illnesses, can I say that whilst I'm by no means an expert, there are many different types of depression and there are a number that can be treated successfully in a variety of ways. A complete cure cannot always be assured in every case but it's important to know that help is available. Based on what's been written here, I don't think it's possible for anyone to reach your conclusion that Mitch is a "sook". He was suffering clinical depression. It is being treated and if he's following the recommendations of professionals who are we to judge whether what he's doing is right or wrong?
  15. Just in case anyone thinks the mods here get pleasure spending their time hiding and/or deleting and/or censoring posts, handing out warnings, suspensions etc., we don't. However, if we experience a repeat of some of the stupidity displayed during the day today, then you can expect to spend some time away from this site in the future. Thanks.
  16. San Francisco 49ers (1-0) 28 - 17 Final Dallas Cowboys (0-1) YES!
  17. I'm not sure that people are reading the situation properly and perhaps I'm not either but it's worth considering a few facts which might possibly be related. 1. The club applied very suddenly after the GWS game for draft assistance from the AFL; 2. Paul Roos recently commented in relation to our fortunes over the past season that, among other things, we lost the services of most probably our best player, Mitch Clark, due to unusual and unforeseen circumstances; and 3. At the "Bluey" Night, Roos said we should never look back (or words to that effect). One interpretation of these three points taken together is that perhaps the club has already decided that Clark is not in its plans (either through its own choice, that of Clark or the circumstances where both might have mutually agreed that it's best to part ways), that it wants to move forward and take other options with regard to regenerating its playing list and that it's seeking any draft assistance and possible trade benefits to cover the loss of the player. Anyway, time will tell.
  18. It would be helpful if Mitch's manager would clarify the situation. I think the club is owed that much in the situation.
  19. Next week it's preliminary final day with Calder Cannons playing Dandenong Stingrays while Oakleigh Chargers take on Sandringham Dragons in the other game.
  20. Well, now that Mitch looks like he's going to attempt a return to AFL then good luck to him and perhaps it's time to move this thread over to the drafting and trading board.

  23. Reported that Swans have increased their offer and Melbourne now out of the race.
  24. So I missed the start of the season. Damn. Why have the 49ers looked poor over the pre season and why should it matter? Carlton used to always look bad in practice matches, then turn things around completely in the real stuff.
