TRAINING: Tuesday 22nd July 2025
I’m sure it wasn’t a one-off or a new idea. 😅I was chatting with Goody, Chocco came over to talk to him about the session, so I excused myself but Goody said I didn’t need to leave as we were halfway through a convo. Cue the usuals piping up… wah wah no wonder we’re a basket-case, Goody prioritises a chat with a cheer squad nuffie over a discussion with Chocco wah wahhh

Nobody was sore. Selwyn was making a joke. Besides, no one trips over a grape, how it that even possible? Slip on a grape? Maybe. But not trip on a grape.

I don’t know what you mean.

TRAINING: Tuesday 22nd July 2025
This morning the players had an indoor training session which was all about tackling. They were told to lay hard tackles and make them stick, also how to ‘shrug off’ tackles. It was long and intense and at the end they were told to now go about doing the exact same thing during play. Tomorrow, the indoor session will be all about handballing.

PREGAME: Rd 20 vs St. Kilda
The cheer squad will be in Aisle 1, Level 1 (Bourke St. end). We’re hoping the adjoining bays will be GA but won’t know until the day before. It’s St Kilda’s home game.

It was clearly a joke. Do you think for even a second that Selwyn would’ve said it to track-watchers had it been true?

Welcome to Demonland: Luker Kentfield
I brought up the subject of a debut with Luker. He said he feels ready and he’ll trust the coaches and selectors, if they think he’s ready he’s gonna grab the opportunity and give it everything. I said, “Have you given any thought to the possibility of your first game not being great’?” He laughed and said, “I know, I’ll be ripped to shreds.” So I told him what you said (above) and he said I needn’t worry about him. He said the Club is really good at ensuring the debutants are aware of what might happen. I was gonna launch into a rant about no amount of preparation will fully help because the world is a cruel place and people can be heartless, etc. but that would make me feel like I’m 100 years old so I just said, “Yeah nah, you’ll be right!”

It’s a wrap. The boys are heading back to AAMI for a team meeting.

Someone needs to tell Max that soccer isn’t a contact sport. He just tackled Chin so hard. To his credit, Chin managed to slide out from under Max who was left lying flat, face down and getting laughed at. 😅

Tracc a no-show. He has the flu. Clarrie’s birthday today so I gave him a card and gift from the DA and an additional hug. He said he’s having a great day already, but that was before he had to take off the tracky and get out into the rain. 😁

Soccer game is afoot. Selwyn said that some of the boys when they saw it was raining said they’re a little ‘sore’ but when they heard the soccer ball was coming out all of the sudden they were no longer sore 🤣

Welcome to Demonland: Luker Kentfield
The young guys do. They’ve asked me if I read Demonland and I say “What’s Demonland?” 🤣 I’d tell them they shouldn’t read it but I know from experience when you tell a kid to NOT do something, at breakneck speed… they’re doing it. At least three of the young guys’ mothers also read it.

Welcome to Demonland: Luker Kentfield
This is what has me torn in terms of Luker debuting. Of course I’d be stoked for him and I know he’d be absolutely rapt because he says he’s ready and the club medics have told him he’s fitter and stronger than he was pre-illness. Even without hearing it from them he knows this himself. BUT… Should he have a poor game I can only imagine the nasty and degrading comments, not only on here but in general from Dees fans. People don’t realise the damage this can do to a 19yo and yes, he reads Demonland.

Joe Daniher - worth a knock on his door?
But the Texas Tiny Head Award will always belong to this guy… Jonathon Patton aka The General.

Joe Daniher - worth a knock on his door?
I love Joe’s goofiness! And he has great taste in music (don’t let the Frozen song fool you). But his head is too small for his body; I find it very distracting. I coped with this for one or two matches a year when we played them, not sure I could cope with it for every match of the season 😂😂😂

2023. So close but so far. Footy and life. Some more meanderings from a marginally mired Melbourne man.
You once started a thread on here titled “I like big butts and I cannot lie.” That’s a dead giveaway right there 😁 It was about players having a low centre of gravity, long bodies and short legs and in your words… big butts.

I never imagined you’d come up with a more zany thread title than “I like big butts and I cannot lie”… but, here we are. You’ve PBd yourself, Deeves.

As a kid he always wanted to be a firefighter when he grew up and this is exactly what he is now. What an accomplished person he is.
