TRAINING: Monday 7th April 2025
No, the next session is at Casey on Thursday morning. The Captain’s Run is on Friday arvo in Adelaide (Hisense Arena) and there’s a Family Day at Casey this Tuesday (April 15th) at 9:30am, this replaces the flush run that’s usually at Gosch’s on the Tuesday. The only chance you’ll get to take the kids to Gosch’s on the school holidays is the pre-Freo match Captain’s Run next Friday morning (April 18th) at 10am. As is always the case, this is subject to change, oftentimes with zero notice.

Reposting this in case some of the anti-soccer ball brigade missed it.

Yep. There’s nothing like 8:30am on a Wednesday at the doors of an Aldi to sort the men from the boys. The Boxing Day sales? Pfft amateurs. Out my way, when the ordinarily sweet and friendly Maltese pensioners hear the first crank of the roller door, it’s on for young and old. I used to meet up with a friend on Wednesday mornings, we’d get a coffee and sit and watch the carnage. It was heart in mouth stuff.

No, I’m not. ☹️ I went to Gather Round the first two years but this year the airfare and accommodation price rises are through the roof, so much higher than the previous two years, therefore it’s out of reach for me and many others in the DA. I’m so disappointed with not being able to go that I’ve emailed Andrew Dillon telling him he’s effectively taking the live footy experience away from the everyday people. I don’t expect a reply but writing it was quite therapeutic.

I really don’t think that adage is meant in a literal sense.

Have you seen the rabid Aldi shoppers when doors open on a Saturday or Wednesday??!! It’s every man for himself, kill or be killed. Elbows flying around indiscriminately, it’s the quick and the dead.

Exactly! The flush runs and captain’s runs aren’t serious training sessions. I get sick of saying this. They are half hour sessions with signatures and selfies afterwards. The boys come out from AAMI where they’ve just had a solid weights session or indoor skills session or hydro session among other things, have half an hour of light work, sign autographs etc. then head back to AAMI to continue their personalised training regimes. People need to let the playing soccer thing slide. The boys are super competitive and get a good run and besides that the soccer game is great for their morale.

But the main session is here. It’s at Casey on Thursday. The captain’s run in Adelaide is the usual sch!tts n giggles captain’s run that happens here (at Gosch’s) the day before GameDay

Reece was working with Jeffo, kicking the ball for Jeffo to mark. Sometimes a high ball marked overhead, sometimes lower for a chest mark. Jeffo seemed fine. He took every mark without issue. He said he no longer has any pain or even a niggle. Before the session I thought it was just wishful thinking on his part that he may be available for this weekend but having watched him train, I’m thinking he might be right. I guess I shouldn’t have called him a delusional [censored]-er 😂 although he thought it was funny.

A little sombre today, but that might’ve been because as they were coming across to the oval huge dark clouds appeared and it felt like the temperature had plummeted. The boys thoroughly enjoyed a… (defibs on the ready?)… soccer match. Yep, a raucous and fun time was had with the round ball.

I did tell Tracc we love him. He clearly thought I said I love you because he answered I love you too. 😅 I also told Goody we love him. Now calm down you lot, you can think a coach needs to be replaced and still love him if for nothing other than he’s our premiership coach.

POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Spare a thought for our resident Blues supporter @No. 31 whose team is languishing winless at the wrong end of the ladder and whose second team is down there with them 😭 #IfIdon’tLaughI’llCry This morning I told my son if anyone needs me today I can be found moping on the couch. He said “I’m running outta clean jocks n socks, any chance you could mope in the laundry?” I’d put him up for adoption in a heartbeat only I can’t imagine there’d be any takers 😑

GAMEDAY: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Cheer squad OGs have told me of how in the dark days if we lost by less than two goals they’d sing the song. That’s so sad. Anyways that won’t happen tonight, only if it’s under a goal will we sing the song. 😂

GAMEDAY: Rd 04 vs Geelong
If we lose, no matter the margin, there’ll be the obligatory knee-jerk new threads. The only question is how many of these there’ll be. I’m guessing the bigger the loss the more threads.

I feel for Koz. We expect his usual freakish feats but at the same time we expect him to rein in his enthusiasm. It’s a fine line he treads.

GAMEDAY: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Gates open at 3:20pm. The Casey game starts at 3:50pm. It would be great for the Casey boys to see and hear support, so anyone who can get to Mordor early enough to catch even just part of the match, please do this. Besides supporting the Casey players, being there for two matches also justifies the criminally high price of a ticket. Idk about y’all but I had to fork out $65 for the privilege of sitting in the away cheer squad bay. God how I hate that club.

PREGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Charlie’s 100th game tomorrow. “100 Sparkling Games” is what’s on the banner alongside the graphic. Incidentally, for those attending the match tomorrow night, be prepared for Geelong indulging in a prematch celebration of 100 years of Ford sponsorship. There’ll be an 8-car motorcade slowly circling the boundary conveying past-players, among other vomitrocious happenings. Might be a good time to duck out to the bar or the loo. We’ve been warned to not get in the way of their celebrations, like that ground isn’t already hostile enough. I thought I couldn’t possibly hate going there any more than I already did, but here we are. Also, the Casey match is the curtain-raiser, so if you can get there early please do. ❤️💙

So the notes aren’t as detailed as they usually are and that’s because she ended up talking to Salo’s parents for quite some time. For those who don’t know, Mr and Mrs Salo are absolutely lovely people. They’re held in the highest esteem by the other players’ parents, so it’s no surprise that Salo is the locker room favourite.
