It was pretty widely reported that Oliver blued with our fitness staff with regards to how his injuries were managed last year. Not to mention the reports that Oliver was meeting David Teague to discuss a possible move back in 2020. But ultimately it's hypocritical if we're going to be outraged at Petracca for putting the club in the headlines when the Club was happy to give Oliver a kick up the [censored] via the media 12 months ago.

You don't argue with someone who buys ink by the barrel. Morris is just reporting what he's being told. I find it astounding so many have given up on Petracca so quickly. This club doesn't have a leg to stand on when it comes to airing dirty laundry in the media after everything that happened with last year with Oliver. If the club can forgive Oliver for completely taking the [censored] last year surely they can put some effort into bringing Petracca back into the fold after everything he's been through.

Not many of your posts.

Sounds like the players who were cracking the [censored] at Petracca for going to Noosa owe him an apology. No wonder he's annoyed. Club needs to bend over backwards to sort this out. Everything around that KB injury has been nothing short of a disaster.

Gary Pert on SEN (17/8/24)
I thought he was terrible. Basically played down all the issues at the club and spent a lot of time making excuses for things that are apparently out of his control. A far cry from Peter Jackson who would openly talk about the clubs flaws and a determination to fix them.

Lol if this is the club's attitude then our culture is worse than anyone could imagine. Going to war with a premiership hero because he feels let down smh.

An external review of the Melbourne Football Club is required!
Collingwood were a massive story over the 2020-21 period. It ended with them sacking their coach, president, CEO and footy boss and winning a flag two years later. Richmond were also in the crosshairs between 2014-16. They even had an outside faction trying to instigate a board spill, They scrapped their whole footy department apart from their coach and won a flag 12 months later.

Personally think it's good to have eyes across everything and make up your own mind actually. But it's another reason to do a review, having an independent body audit the club would be a way to inform the supporters, address issues and reassure outside talent that we're a worthy club to join.

You can shoot the messenger all you want but the media don't go after clubs when their house is in order and they have no issues, they chase stories. You are mad if you think this is simply about ladder position. Look at the last two premiers after us, Geelong finished 12th last year and it wasn't a story, Collingwood are two rungs above us this year and it isn't a story. You seem to think the club is in tip-top shape so I would ask you why you are so afraid of a review? Surely you would love to see yourself and the leaders at the club vindicated.

I'm not going to reiterate every spotfire the club has had over the past year just because you want to play coy. If you don't think our off-field issues bear any significance then that's your right. But it doesn't really matter what you or I think. The clubs reputation has taken a significant beating across the league in a way that has had real consequences to our ability to function as an AFL club. Look no further than Houston getting cold feet after we courted him for weeks.

I don't understand why some are so resistant to the club getting a review. We keep hearing about how great everything is, how great our culture is, to judge the club on their actions. But the sideshow has popped up again and again. If the club believes they're that good then why should they be afraid of a review? If there are no issues then the club gets vindicated and it brings peace of mind to the members if there are serious issues they can be exposed and dealt with properly.

Collingwood don't have the capital to get him unless they want to give us one of the Daicos boys. It isn't going to happen. If Trac really wants to leave he will know that he needs to go to a club that can actually get the deal done and satisfy our trade requirements. I remember Nathan Buckley saying once that you can lose players but you can also win them back. I still don't think he goes, but if he does it will spell the end for this regime.

I'd happily replace both. Club is in a rut, playing group is falling apart. It can't go on.

Draft or Recruit
Best way to recruit is to find undervalued young players who haven't been given much of a go. Kind of like how Giants poached Bedford and Swans took Jordon off us. Our recent recruitment strategy of getting old fringe players should really only be used for depth, not where you should be spending second rounders *cough* McAdam *cough* I heard we're having a look at James Peatling? Big yes. With top ten picks you only trade them if you have a genuine gun coming. Otherwise back the excellent Jason Taylor in to find the best available player with that pick. A lot of mids around the pointy end of this draft, exactly what we need.

100% the way we move the ball doesn't help the forwardline at all but the amount of times I see our forwards either standing completely still and waiting for the ball to land on their head OR all running back into the goal square rather than spreading and creating options does my head in.

Even if we got Burgess back I don't think we'll ever have the kind of luck we had injury wise in 2021. Everything went right for us that year.

Where did you hear this? This seems like a bit of an overstep for the fitness guy.

Didn't Peter Jackson want Josh Mahoney to replace him but got vetoed by the AFL who installed Pert?

I don't see a difference. Both are examples of a journalist reporting the player in question is frustrated/disgruntled. Neither went on the record and said their piece publicly.

Time to go Goody?
Unsupported comments that I gleaned from reporting. Hardly unsupported then? Why would I believe posters on this site over actual journalists whose jobs it is to find this stuff out? Peter Ryan is a very good journalist and I would put a lot of stock into his article from today. Do you deny that the club has stagnated this year? Do you deny that there has been infighting? Do you deny that the club hasn't had to put out constant spotfires? I'm not going to stick my head in the sand and pretend everything is sunshine and roses. Pert and Goodwin told us they were going to fix our issues last off-season. They told us to judge the club on what they do. Well it's been nearly 12 months and our best player is disgruntled and want's out. Oliver has struggled since he hurt his hand and has been forced to play through injury and poor fitness all season. We are losing games by the biggest margins in five years. Why should I believe they can get it done this time around?
