The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Goodwin will have no choice, if Petty becomes our permanent FF. Definitely need pace and elite kicks in the midfield/flank.

2023 Positives
I've been trying to decide if McVee made a mistake trying to spoil the ball in the play that gave Carlton the win on Friday. Would things change if he instead just man's the mark and stops the transition? (Even if just a couple of seconds) Not trying to be too critical and understandably he is still young. He has been a total steal by the MFC. Good Job Judd!

Yes, we need Goodwin to show more "guts" otherwise feels like a rehearsed speech and gives us no certainty of "learnings".

Death Riding Port Adelaide 2023
This may yield us pick 4 from GC.

What happened afterwards? Hope you gave them a good old spray!

Death Riding Port Adelaide 2023
We won the death riding cup ! A flag in my books.

Are we all on the Giants bandwagon?
Carlton is no chance up in the Gabba. They are there purely because of our lack of composure in the last quarter. I wouldn't be surprised if they are destroyed like we were in the 2018 PF.

Is Jesse under a long contract with GWS? We coud have the return of the prodigal son 😅

Before that turnover, Lever had an intercept mark just inside our D50. Instead of looking for a short kick to a player nearby (and consume more of the clock) he went long bomb down the line. Mind you, our players were not offering good looks in terms of separation so perhaps Lever didn't feel confident trying a 15 m kick.

It's also not ideal to keep a player just because he is best mate with the two stars of the team. Unfortunately for Salem, we are actually loaded in the half back line. So it is not so outrageous to consider a trade for him, potentially. Most likely that won't happen anyway so it is a moot point.

Goody - Genius or insane?
That's what I am trying to convey, coaches need desperately to work on the teams skills and decision making under pressure. It is still the responsibility of the coaching group to improve our list skills.

What's needed in 2024
I meant goal kicking, not so much the field kicking.

Maybe the captaincy fixes Trac's kicking 😅

I think we will be contenders for sure. Certainly top 8, most likely top 4, for at least another 3 seasons. The question is, do we have the talent to win it all again? 2021 - TMac and BBB were important pillars, now gone. We have no direct replacements yet. Langdon and Brayshaw did a brilliant work as the wing duo. Now Langdon is a shade of his former self and Hunter is not quite there yet. I would say the only 2 areas that are equally good or better are our back 6 and our mid-field. Mind you our mid-field seems to be a bit stagnant in the sense that we haven't developed elite skills. Trac and Oliver need a huge off-season and work on those foot skills and decision making. JVR is still work in progress and he may be very good, even better than TMac but he is just a kid. I think he will be cherry ripe in 2 more seasons. We desperately need a true KPF that can work alongside Petty and JVR.

Not a bad idea to trade Salem. We have too many young guns in the half back line so we are well covered if he left. Langdon is another one that could be in danger, last two seasons have been underwhelming and I feel he is not physical or IQ enough for finals. Keep Tomlinson agree, he was good most of the time and if we are really making Petty our KPF we need him as a replacement in the back line. Try Woewodin and other youngsters on the wing and half forward. I think Spargo also needs to be back in our best 23, his decision making is elite. We need to be very smart come draft time, should have picks 4 and 5; the club needs to select based on the gaps in our list not necessarily best available (we are short on leg speed and elite kicking).

The Steven May appreciation thread
I think Curnow scored one, still a mighty effort. He was single-handedly winning to game for us last night.

Yet another wasted season?
Probably we will need to start moving away from some of those leaders from 2021, unless to they can be better next year. See Salem and Langdon. Salem had a good game I think last night but mentally he made too many mistakes for an experienced player. Langdon, a shade of his former self. The you have TMac and BBB that should not play next year. Lots of work to do in our list, this off season can be as important as the 2019 was.
