  1. Maybe, but Buckley being non committal this late in the process would have been a major red flag I’ll take them at their word that King was the preferred candidate And one thing is for sure, we know he wants it
  2. Fly free Bucks, the sleepy shores of Hobart awaits thee
  3. I don’t want to jump to conclusions but I’d be [censored] off at Bucks IF this was the case Not sure why he would go this deep into the process unless he was 99% sure he wanted the job Meanwhile there are assistants chomping at the bit for a senior coaching interview, who have potentially been cost a shortlist because of Buckley’s indecision I’ll stop myself there because it’s still an IF, but not liking how this has shaped if it turns out to be true EDIT - posted this one second before Steven King was announced so DISREGARD 🤣
  4. You know I love your work @BLWNBA but a bit of context on who it was that made the decision (i.e. Buckley or us) would be nice!?
  5. 100% Flanders would be the best recruit we’ve bought to the club since Langdon in 2019 (putting aside the Grundy experiment) Is he an out and out midfield gun? No But he’s a quality AFL player who would comfortably be best 22 and can play a variety of positions I don’t know how we could get a deal done compared to the Saints or Blues, but we should definitely be trying to pry him out
  6. Unfortunately it sounds like we’d be in competition with the Saints and Blues for his services, both of whom have far greater draft capital than us Unless he nominates us specifically it’s hard to see how we’d get this done
  7. Must say I reckon it would be a pretty bad look if Bucks pulled out after going deep into the process and being publicly labelled as the front runner As much as I’m in favour of Bucks, if he doesn’t know whether he wants to coach at this point then maybe he’s not the right candidate 🤷 Of course the more likely situation is that Edmund is guessing and Bucks already has one hand on the job
  8. Caro is well within her rights to give her opinion - the problem is she’s misrepresented the clubs actions here, incorrectly saying we didn’t give him the option to coach to the end of the season
  9. Seemed incredibly unlikely to happen anyway but still sad to get confirmation May you make your way back to the MFC some day soon Dogga
  10. Buckley putting a team together but not interested in the job according to Edmund? Wild areas
  11. I guess Hayden thought the job was Skip-Worthy… I’ll see myself out
  12. Bizarre to have an interview lined up but then pull out at the last minute Agree with other posters here - reckon he’s got a sense that for whatever reason he’s not likely to get the job and pulled out No shame in that, but if you were wanting to coach West Coast of all teams there’s no way you wouldn’t have wanted to coach us too
  13. On the Tassie front, all I’ll say is that Bucks clearly isn’t interested in winning Premiership if he decides to go that route…
  14. To be fair to Bucks this does line up with what he’s said publicly about determining whether Melbourne is the right fit for him But at the same time it would be odd for him not to have a high level of interest given the inside word of a few well connected posters here
  15. I’ll die on the hill that we were never “figured out” in 2022 and 23 We didn’t give ourselves a chance in 22 because of an inability to run out games, part of which was a result of poor management of players throughout the season We were primed in 23 but had a horrendous run of bad luck which saw us run out with a D grade forward line in the Carlton semi, which saw one of the all time awful goal kicking performances Neither of the straight sets exits were a result of our system, but 23 was probably the last year we could realistically win the flag with that style and group of players
  16. Love the Dunkley comparison We need midfielders who can defend, run both ways and win their own ball just as much as we need good ball users Plus at 22 he’s still got scope for further development Hopefully Finey is on the money and we can bring him in and continue to rebalance our midfield mix
  17. Totally agree about Green All I’ll say is that Smith can’t start soon enough…
  18. I get it, but clearly we’ve identified experience as a requirement for the role Every club will have different needs when going to market for a new coach You mention Scott as an example, but Geelong was a strong enough club on and off the field to ‘take the risk’ on an untried coach (as good as he’s since been for them) Would we have structures in the club to support a coach like that? I’m not so sure Regardless I tend to agree with your last point, it’s pretty clear we sounded out Buckley long before Goodwin was sacked, so it’s a moot point anyway
  19. Are people actually upset by Green saying we want eight years experience? I’d bloody hope we’re trying to get an experienced candidate - it’s a senior coaching role for a football club that’s lacked strong leadership for years now
  20. Would love to get Jimmy into that role Reckon he’d be well suited given his board/admin experience at GWS
  21. If we could pry out Flanders and Mihocek in addition to those two it would be a handy off season
  22. Is that to say Goodwin being gone makes Dogga want to come back more/makes it easier to lure him back? Understand it would be extremely difficult either way
  23. While I tend to agree about MFC supporters being too sensitive about negative reporting, I think most people’s issue is that Caro is dressing up her personal agenda as “reporting” It’s been clear since Bucks emerged as the favourite for the job that she’s been against it, likely because of her connections to Brendon Gale and AFL HQ Which is fair enough, but let’s not pretend that it’s anything but that That’s my read on it anyway 🤷
  24. Loving your posts tonight Onion 👏
  25. Seriously, how much are they paying her?
