I said it at the time and history is bearing it out: the introduction of video technology for umpiring decisions is antithetical to the human nature of sport and does nothing but open a can of worms that need not have been opened. We’d never use technology to replace a kick for goal, so why would we do it to replace a decision on the accuracy of the goal?

Personally I'm sick of podcasts where the host is constantly saying "we've got to move on" as soon as the conversation starts to get interesting. Podcasting is the perfect format for long-form conversation.
  3. Ooh - what was his first call-in episode. I want to dig back into the archives to see if he was always so economical with his words.

This young man is proof that MFCSS is not in fact carried in the blood or through some evil voodoo curse from beyond the grave. It is instead developed as a Pavlovian response to repeated negative stimuli. If it can be contracted, it can be cured - and we must find the cure and ease the suffering of those unfortunates afflicted with it. It may seem cruel but I think the answer involves frontal lobe lobotomy; however as this treatment is deemed "unethical" by the general public, I propose winning more flags as an alternative solution; evidence is promising in this area, as a recent study conducted in 2021 concluded that premierships seem to provide short term partial reduction in the severity of the condition. Further study required.
  5. Mabior Chol has had like 10 opportunities to go the knee in the marking contest like he's done the past couple of weeks and is being a good citizen all of a sudden.
  6. Hawks within a goal with 4 mins left. Please let it happen.
  7. Hawthorn look cooked. They've had plenty of the ball but are way to tired to do anything with it.
  8. God I hate Brayden Maynard.
  9. St. Kilda, currently leading by 8 points. Luke Darcy: "A goal either way might be the game you sense." Hmmm….nearly there Darce.
  10. Literally never in doubt.
  11. This has been the strangle-est of stranglewank games. At no point tonight has it looked like the Dogs have any chance of winning yet they're still within striking distance theoretically.
  12. Doggies are just hanging on here.
  13. There should be more leeway given by the umpires when the ball is dead. No one wants double goals for "dissent", or htb frees reversed because of diving players (Rozee). We want more holding the ball frees and less of these types of inconsequential acts resulting in game-deciding umpiring decisions.
  14. The old "where the ball is" never made sense to me for double-goals. When the first goal has been kicked, the ball should be considered back in the middle of the ground, not with whichever umpire happens to be holding it at the time.
  15. When it comes to Carlton, the dog walks the umpire!
  16. That throw was disgustingly obvious from Cripps. Give them the flag now if that's what the umps are going to allow this year from Carlton.
  17. Great running goal from Jayden Hunt for West Coast, running off the backline before dishing it off and then getting it back again in the forward line and goaling.
  18. Anyone listening to Dermie, Lynch and Dwayne Russell commentating the Brissy v North game? It's like listening to three old numpties chewing the fat by the fence in the local leagues. It has its charm, but probably is a little below the standard of seriousness required for national television.
  19. I'm one of those who have made comparisons, and yeah…you rewatch Flower and you just see a man amongst men, taking the pizz on the regular. Long way to go yet.
  20. Incredible effort. Surely we've just done something no club has ever done before - knock of both of a non Vic state's sides over there in consecutive weeks.
  21. Definitely a free against Lever there. Feeling a flutter of nerves here.
  22. Called it. Benny Brown subbed out for Woey. I would have done it earlier but it's the right call.
  23. Absolutely superb. With McDonald back to his best position and with Lever and May to support/lead, we've got an even better backline than we already had (we already had the best backline).
  24. I reckon Lever handpassed that before the mark was paid. Any umpire worth his salt would call that back.
