I know little about the U/18s but I know this - the 2009 draft will be shallow. It will be down approx. a third on talent relative to other years and with that in mind, the Demons will not take anyone at 66 and I am sure that BP would be having second thoughts about whether it would be worth taking anyone at 50. This could mean that 1, 2, 18, 34 and PSD1 is as deep as we go. Valenti is touch and go, and Spencer can have another year on the RL. That is 5 deletions with Robertson, Wheatley, Whelan, Johnson, and McDonald looking likely to go. Batram might be in the mix as he is uncontracted, McNamara and Cheney might be candidates for a RL if the Footy Dept. require another opening on the list (But doing this gives every other club a chance to pick them up). An opening on the list can also be created by upgrading a pick with the trade of a player. Because you are essentially trading two players and getting one back. But this will mean a pick 50 or 66 so it depends wether BP sees any talent that late. Who knows? He might pick up Valenti at 66 if we don't upgrade before November. I wouldn't use the PSD1 on him though, there is usually a chance of a decent player heading exclusively into the PSD.

Never in doubt. Freo are awful. Oh, they beat PA did they? OMG, they must be super-great! Please...

That would push us back another round in the draft, so I don't like that. Bate and Miller might get you 14 but probably not. MFC: Pick 14, Pick 46, Pick 66 (because we are trading two players for a pick so we go further into the draft) for Miller, Bate and 34. WB: Miller, Bate, Pick 34 for Pick 14 and Pick 46. Wouldn't happen because Miller is not good enough, and Bate isn't the power forward that the Bullies need. Getting closer though.

Easy to say that but Bailey could have gone hell for leather and beaten Sydney, Richmond, NM, and Freo to finish on 7 wins and shore up the 'improvement' on 2008 by more than doubling his wins tally. But he knew those wins would have been useless outside of that fact, detrimental even, and he 'prepared' the side very well against Sydney, Rich, and NM. I, personally, would give him a 2011 extension right now to give him more time, but I understand that people want improvement early next year. But if we get 'backended' draw like 2009, Bailey will be under artificial pressure at the midway point of the season.

Must be a different 'number 27'... I wish I could remember that bloody avatar. This is going to bug me for a week. And I'm busy this week. This is going to seriously hamper my ability to get stuff done...
-
Were you going for irony? And we can't trade Valenti. He's on the RL.
-
It does. Poor Morabito. Never had a chance. Give Trengove number 9, he's going to be a star!
-
No he's not. You may want him to be. But he is very highly rated by those down at the Junction. And "Premiership winning forward?" Steven Armstrong is a PWF. Game. Set. Match.

Get Jamar and MArtin to rest up forward and not leave the ground, it'll free up another mid and give us an option at the top of square. Plus Morton will drift forward, and Watts will need his space. We will have had 4 picks in the top 4 since 2007 and we have Morton, Watts, and Scully locked up. That would only be balanced if we got another mid with Pick 2. And don't say that we have plenty of mids and that the forward line needs addressing - we need stars in the midfield . I'm talking bonafide stars, and you find them at the pointy end of the draft - A mid for me.

There is a post in this thread on this page that leads me to believe Trengove should be Pick 2. You only get one guess as to which post swayed me...

I don't even remember my avatar. Was it ND? Good memory, Nasher... Bad priorities though. Imagine what else you could be remembering... And Rivers is right HT. I guess that means I posted from 2004 till whenever D'Land did the overhaul.
-
Spencer is in the RL. You cannot delist the unlisted.
-
Something like 'number 27' if I recall correctly. It was before D'Land got revamped and I just didn't start again for a while.

Hutchy has never rated you. It's his problem, not yours...

The only way Garry Lyon is coaching the MFC is if we start next year horribly and Bailey is gone by Rd 12. Don't see that happening, I don't want to see that happening, so maybe I am clouded by my desire to see the Dees progress. Jaded is right though. This team was always going to win between 4 and 7 games. Thankfully, Bailey put the club first and ensured it was 4.

Came third in the B+F in 2007. Has done extremely well for a forward in the worst team in the league, that gets the fewest Inside 50s in the league. Has the most goals and equal in assists with Davey. You, and others, have made a snap judgement on a poor 2008 and a few games early this season and have completely missed the very good form of a player whose value will increase as Watts, Jurrah, and Wonaeamirri become more prominent. He, as he showed on Sunday, can still have a run in the middle and be effective. Sticking to snap judgements would have meant that Garland wouldn't have returned to the side after being dropped in early 2008... If that doesn't give you pause nothing will...

I tell you what, if Freak doesn't stop these narcissistic threads, I am going to pay someone $50 to go through every one of his 1400 posts to prove that he has been one the most misguided people on here...

Players that might be considered: McLean, Wheatley, Robertson, Buckley, Grimes, Jamar, Jurrah, and Rivers. I don't know about Rivers, McLean, and Grimes, but Robbo should come back in for a swansong, Buckley should get a run around or two in the last few games. Jamar should be over his quad and come straight into the side. Bennell and Whelan would still be a week or so away. Wheels might not get back to fitness to reach 150, which would be a shame but at least he won't finish on 99. Hopefully Wheatley also gets a farewell game. I'm guessing that Rivers, Jamar, and Grimes are right to go. OUT: Johnson, Bail (inj), Spencer, Bruce (inj), and Newton IN: Jamar, Robertson, Grimes, Jurrah, and Rivers

The AFL will give us to November to decide...

I had another name before rpfc, so I am familiar. But I appreciate you trying to be accommodating...

Some epic hand-wringing going on here. Again. It's like every 4 weeks on here people forget that we are crap and come on here and vent their frustration. We lost to NM. With 15 players 22 or younger. With two debutants. It's also pleasing to see some posters on here coming out of the woodwork for the special occasion of a bad loss in a vain attempt to convince the rest of us of the regression they think they see. 2008 was ground zero. 2009 is an easier pill to swallow with glimpses of what is coming. Looking forward to 2010.

What is with these old threads, unbumped, suddenly appearing? Teeny bit annoying. Although good to see Hannibal was patronising 3 years ago... The more things change...

Rogue and 45HG16 - I completely understand what you are saying but the premise of that pick as a value item wholly rests in the ability to get a player of equal ability or greater ability. I just believe you can't dissociate the value of the pick received and the player received. The draft may have been the vehicle, but in my eyes we got Jack Grimes for Travis Johnstone, and I'm OK with that logic.
-
Yes, but they are both the business of the Footy Dept. They were giving up a player to get another.
