Stafford being a former ruck may give us an interesting look to make this work
-
Brisbane brought Gunston behind the ball at the end of the first quarter as well. Brilliance from the coaches box, or maybe from Ed, maybe both.
-
Joel Smith has staked a claim to be played as a genuine swingman in the best 22. Has looked really good as forward and Backman at times.
-
In: supporters who believe in this team Out: sorry sacks

The ideal would have been Gawn or Grundy playing complete forward 50 role, but that just hasn't happened. Hopefully this shows some promising flexibility from Goody. It's also likely Grundy has some more years left compared to Gawn (just by my eye test), so we have a back up AA ruck if/when Gawn retires.
-
It might be that the plan was to get as much forward line presence from both big men during the year, then let Gawn rip with full minutes in the late part of the year. We absolutely have a lot to gain with a KPF or extra runner replacing Grundy. But we need to get the timing juuuuust right.
-
Agreed, without Grundy, Gawn would have had to continue to play big TOG% and play through injuries and niggles. We have been effectively managing him, in game, to preserve him long term.

Time to put the 'Kozzy Form Slump' bias to bed!

I have no questions about his work rate or endeavor. But he is at his best with ball in hand. He looked lost around the packs when i watched the replay. He is a point of difference with his speed and aggression but it just not on show at the moment. -
Not quite

Yes 🔥🔥

I hope JJ is given a lot of CB attendances
-
Thank the lord, some life in this team still
-
JVR has to earn his spot like everyone else, Smith worked hard to get here and has played for 2 weeks, he keeps his spot.
-
We get the short end of the stick, but only because we were probably the first club to exploit the points rules with GWS

Occam's razor is a nice tool to use here. Loading, team selection, game plan are all huge factors for results but to put it simply, the overall record of teams coming off byes is 2-10. The winning teams being the Saints and Pies, but they went up against other teams coming off byes as well. The doom saying, mud slinging and hair pulling is very typical after a loss here but everyone should take a deep breath and chill.

I just love seeing Fritta laying big tackles and showing some aggression

Good job Smith

To keep it simples Deadly bacteria are everywhere i.e., staphylococcus or the notorious staph infection They infect our skin through little cuts and nicks Some players are poor at hygiene or wound care (or decide to go on jobs on the MCG while battling infection) If you train at the intensity these players do, it absolutely compromises your immune function Source: I do martial arts and need to protect myself from skin infection every day.

I don't know what symptoms he may've experienced, but i agree that the club has likely downplayed the severity. If he was in hospital, on a drip, for nearly a week, it was very very serious. Athlete's involved in intense training are at major risk of contracting serious infections. Their bodies are exhausted and can struggle to fight infection, infection itself is common as they are in environments with lots of sweat and body contact. These infections can do serious damage to internal organs and can lead to necrotic areas at the infection site. Kevin Randleman, an old mma fighter literally had holes in his skin from a staph infection, and recently Australian mma fighter Tim Schulz nearly had his leg amputated due to a skin infection. Viewer discretion advised, but interesting nonetheless: https://www.si.com/fannation/mma/news/video-horrific-staph-infection-leaves-mma-fighter-at-risk-of-amputation On top of all that, the antibioitics required to fight infection can be devastating for an athletes cardio and energy systems.

Lions kicking was absent abhorrent all night. Dump kicks out of d50, unforced errors, with or without real pressure from the swans. We should slaughter them in the turn over game, I hope we get our revenge at the g and shred them to pieces.
-
There is just so much to love from this game. Salem's positioning, defensive work and kicking was awesome but how about the real deal leg speed he is showing too, at one point he out hustled the very fast and talented Bobby Hill to break away from a stoppage at d50, loved it. I also wonder if we can find a balance which included Fritta, Smith and Petty forward. Smith's chase down tackles and pressure was awesome and Petty will make us even stronger in the air. But you can't have it all, more than likely we go with the extra mid to replace the small which may force Smith out of the side.

6. Viney 5. Hunter 4. Salem 3. Hibbo 2. Tomlinson 1. Smith

Gus in the middle looked much better than half back as well

Amazing coaching performance and team effort. Our structure was set up really well and clogged them up in the right places.
