Simon's pass mark for 2021?...
I hope that's not the case as how many years of disappointment can a group of supporters put up with like Melbourne's supporters have? What an absolute waste of a year 2021 will be if we miss finals once again with the caliber of players we now possess.

Unpopular Opinions - Melbourne FC Edition
May we never play at the joint again! 3 losses there in the one month (one of them we didnโt play in but it knocked us out of the finals race)

He actually did ok on Papley in Cairns. He was a disaster against James Stewart of Essendon who was too tall for him and booted 3 in a shortened game. I would say if heโs to make it, it will be on the oppos small/mid fwd as you mentioned.

Fritsch should go back to defence.

King: Move Salem Up the Ground
I'm happy for him to remain at half back as the kick from D 50 is the most important kick in footy.

Melbourne vs Geelong Toronto 1989
Didn't we also play Adelaide in London just after the 2000 grand final?? Can't remember if we won but I don't think many of us would've cared at the time coming off a dismal GF.

Rogers Centre had or still has astro turf. Saw a few of the boys running around in white runners in the video.

Melbourne vs Geelong Toronto 1989
The key bullet points out of Steve O'Dwyer's victorious acceptance speech: 1) The chairman of the sponsor congratulated Melbourne Skipper "Mike" O'Dwyer. 2) In O'Dwyer's victorious speech he encouraged "all the single girls to get back to the York Hotel and we'll all have a chat" 3) The MC of the night Mike Williamson then proceeded to remark "Well spoken Strawbs" at the conclusion of O'Dwyer's victory speech. Ah 1989 - a little less PC than today.

"Luke Jackson won't make it as a ruckman" Dwayne Russell 3/12/20
When a listener called Dwayne to take him to task about the Jackson comments he absolutely confirmed that he didnโt believe Jackson would make it as a ruck. This was seperate to the above recording you provided. Thatโs what prompted me to start the discussion.

Good News for Footy Crowds in 2021
If we get scheduled at the MCG round one I hope itโs against a low drawing opposition so nobody misses out on a ticket.

THE PECKING ORDER
I can understand the rationale behind Melksham behind 3rd on the list as kicking is the single most important component of football, and Melksham setting up someone for a shot on goal is a thing of beauty. However he was so poor this year that one wonders if heโll even get a regular game next year.

Ahh yes. Mods, please change the date to 3 December if you wouldn't mind.

"Luke Jackson won't make it as a ruckman" Dwayne Russell 3/12/20
Was listening to SEN and Derwayne mentioned that Jackson won't make it as a ruck and the only way he'll carve a career in this league is if he's played exclusively as a key forward. Is he jumping the gun? Does he have a point? Was Jackson that poor in his one game as starting ruck V's North and as a relief ruckman in his other 5 games? Be interested to hear what you all think his best position will be. Thought Russell was being a little too harsh on the back of a 200cm kid having a 6 game taste. ADMIN EDIT: Here is the actual audio. ADDITIONAL ADMIN EDIT: Found the call:

THE PECKING ORDER
We paid far too much for Lever and his reputation (based on his 2017 season) exceeds his on field performance. Frost at Hawthorn was just as good as Lever this year. However, Lever's ability to position himself and take a clutch mark in close games is impressive and important.

Farewell Oscar McDonald
O Mac seems like the ultimate confidence player. When his confidence is sky high, heโs leading a defence that concedes just 6 goals in an elimination final win over Geelong. When his confidence is rock bottom heโs sent down to full forward just to stay out of the way in a dismal Sydney Swans loss in Cairns.

Simon's pass mark for 2021?...
I feel Simon's at the top of his coaching game and has hit a real sweet spot in his development, particularly during the last season and a half: 1) Swinging Bayley Fritsch from defense to attack in a shock move during a late season 2019 game against the Dogs and having the courage to keep him there for the rest of the season, when nobody else could fathom such a positional move. 2) Taking Harmes out of the midfield in round 23 2019 and enabling his career to further flourish in a multi positional role, rather than simply tagging the opposition's best midfielder such as Lachie Neale. Good thing Lachie didn't get the 3 brownlow votes when we played them this year...oh wait... 3) In a further cutting edge bombshell, he elected to throw Melksham in the midfield for the last 2 games of the season for an impressive return of 12 and 8 possessions. I'm not sure if he was tagging that day, but I'm sure he would've been a far better option than Harmes regardless. With cutting edge tactical moves such as the above examples, I don't believe ladder finishes or finals exits are true indicators or KPI's to assess Simon and ultimately setting a pass mark.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM WEIDEMAN
I would replace 40 with 30. With lower scores these days, less and less players are kicking 40 a season. Come round 8 and if he's kicked just 5 or 6 goals, he can hand the keys over to T Mac or M Brown. Should be having at least 3 shots at goal a game given he'll be getting the number 2 key defender, and kicking his 2.1 or 1.2 per week for a total of 33-35 goals for the season. He kicked 1.0 in the last 4 games of the year. That was unacceptable.

Is this a bitter blow for the club?

Simon's pass mark for 2021?...
At the end of 2019 I would've been doing cart wheels at the thought of winning 1 final and bowing out in the semis. However, seeing a bog ordinary side such as St Kilda win a final over a side that went to sleep for 2 quarters suggests that winning one final isn't that great an achievement. He'll certainly survive if we make the finals, but I'd love to see us start beating the Richmond's, Geelongs, Brisbanes, Ports and West Coasts of the league - go 50/50 against those mobs and eventually make and lose a prelim in respectable fashion. l'd call that a successful season IMO.

Simon's pass mark for 2021?...
Finals at the absolute bare minimum. However the club will have a big decision to make if we get pumped in week 1 finals and have a record of say 2-7 against the top 8 sides.

Good stats there. I'm surprised McKay only kicked 2 more goals than Weid, as I though McKay had a much better year than Weid. Hipwood is over-rated except for the game he kicked 5 against us in 5 minutes in 2019. Schache has been a poor selection pick 2. Himmelberg had a poor year by his standards but is a good player.

2020 Player Reviews: #12 Toby Bedford
I'm not an ANB fan (except for in 2018) but he did actually play pretty well in the last couple of games and kicked some ripper goals. I'm OK for him be on the list.

As per the thread title, he's very much welcomed at the MFC.

It's most certainly still deliberating but he gets a resounding credit in the bank for picking Oliver in that same draft. At the moment JT overpaid but in fairness Weid isn't yet in his mid-late 20's which is the prime years of an AFL player. We can make the final judgement in a few years.
