Hawks also sustaining injuries to both Scrimshaw and Brockman…
-
Thought we’d get touched up and happily proven wrong. Statement making win - again when we play our best we are very hard to beat. Just hope we bring that same level of intensity for the Hawks game. Anyone else confused by the holding the man decisions when the player is tackled and drops the ball? Infuriated me beyond no end last night.

If we play like we did yesterday even Hawthorn, Adelaide and the Gold Coast will touch us up. If we don’t sort out our issues soon we’ll end the season like North did in 2016. Anything other than a top 4 spot will be a disaster given the way we started the season.

Ben Brown surely in. Sounds like BBB only played a half for Casey - which means perhaps they’re already looking to keep him fresh for Thursday. Brown has proven AFL form and if he played today we may have won - with Weids we’d have been a playing a man short. From today’s display I’d be surprised if we didn’t have omissions for the Power game. If our mids don’t turn up and we play a tall short in our forward line - we will get touched up by Port and be 5th on the ladder.
-
Observations: - blind hand passes over the head which resulted in turn overs. - hospital hand passes killed us. - second men up spoiling the first player from taking a contested mark. (E.g. Jackson in clear position to mark and McDonald tries to come in over the top and spoils the mark).

Decision making - Poor. Clearances / Centre bounces - Slaughtered. Skills - Woeful. Goal Kicking - [censored] Forward Line - Tall short Did not deserve to win today, outplayed and lacking intensity. Deplorable effort yet again when we have everything to play for. Expected more from this side…

MFCSS not nearly as bad as Crows and Pies games. Big test today but we’re up for the challenge. Hoping for a four quarter game and a 26 point win!

Perplexed as to why BBB doesn’t get a game. Thought it would be the perfect game to return… If he was kept out because the the weather bet it won’t rain a drop on Saturday ? Prepared to trust the Selection Committee who have got us to 12-2 but I will be fuming if we get done by the Giants after kicking 6.17…

Feeling like I did before the Swans game. Knowing we’ll have a battle on our hands but (if we turn up) we should comfortably get the job done! Cmon Dees!!
-
Feel sick watching the Umpires try to get the Toigs back into the game…??♂️ Love seeing Richmond embarrassed but hate that it’ll spur on the Bombers tomorrow to try and get into the 8…?
-
As much as I loathe Hipwood - we should have picked him instead of Weideman….just saying.
-
Good practice leading up to the finals all being well. May have to play the Cats in week one of the finals but at least if we did it’d be at the MCG ?
-
Geelong are getting packed (thus far). Love how the Lions are breaking them apart and exposing them for the pretenders they are. How long till that unfairly judged ‘champion’ thug Selwood eye gouges someone?
-
The conditions from memory for the Sydney game were wet and greasy too but TMac and BBB played really well together. BBB and TMac are for mine our best forward combination going into the back end of the season. Hopefully they’ll get a chance against the Giants… Gassed about Viney - he’s a huge IN and will bring us a lot of energy and leadership on field.
-
Clearly we’re looking for speed and legs against the Bombers. They are coming off a six day break so this should allow us to break them open in the second half with Burgess Ball….if we come to play. Still disappointed Ben Brown doesn’t get a game. Clearly there’s something still not right with him (knee) or you’d play him. Really need big games from Kozzi, Fritta and TMac on Saturday.

So gassed to get 4 seats in the MCC Level 2! To be honest it’s a joke the Bombers play a home game at the MCG (and under normal circumstances would have made good coin from it) which isn’t their home ground / the game should be at Marvel, a ground I hate as much as Dimma. There is no team I loathe more than Essendon - especially their supporters so I’ll be sick if we lose this one! The good thing is when we lost to the Crows the response was beating 2nd and 3rd so hopefully we get the same kind of performance on Saturday!

The last normal season of footy (2019), the top four consisted of Geelong, Brisbane and Richmond who won 16 games and the Pies with 15 wins and got 4th on percentage over the Eagles. I think we need at least 16 but hopefully 17+ wins which is likely given the winnable games and our record against top 8 sides… If Dogs or Cats finish 1st and 2nd then it doesn’t matter if we finish 3rd or 4th as those finals would likely be played at the MCG. Having said that if Melbourne turns up and plays their brand - we have the ability to beat anyone anywhere. So an interstate Qualifying Final shouldn’t scare us.
-
Still a game clear on top…it’s something!
-
McLean now also likely injured too!
-
Duncan (knee) and Naughton (ribs) - big losses for both clubs if those injuries cause lengthy periods on the sidelines…

If Ben Brown doesnt play the rest of the year
OhMyDees replied to picket fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
I remember in the Carlton game at the Punt Road End, Max Gawn spoiled a near certain mark by BBB and almost certainly a goal from that range/angle. The other clear benefit is (and no doubt raised many times) but he’ll take away a key defender from the opposition which frees up the other forwards to shine. -
Don’t forget a few of our other first rounder fails at the National Draft… Cale Morton (Pick 4 - 2007) Lucas Cook (Pick 12 - 2010) Jimmy Toumpas (Pick 4 - 2012)

Could not have said it better! VFL is a dead competition in Victoria so it’s very hard for players to prove themselves at that level and push for selection or develop their skills. Even Casey game at Marvel against the Kangas - Weids was missing easy shots on goal 30 odd out and low pressure inside 50. We know BBB doesn’t have the same forward pressures like your TMacs, Spargos and Nibblers but even he did some great tackles inside 50 in the games he played for us in the firsts. I hope that TMac and Ben Brown have an opportunity to gel together like Hawkins and Cameron for the Cats.

Stand very much corrected Dazzle/Layzie! Would prefer Hipwood/McKay or Himmelberg over Weid if we could turn back time.
