Mmmm don’t like it mainly because the justification to bring it in, based on injuries, is just a bad argument. If the argument is: ‘have a mid season draft to fix list deficiencies caused by injury’ then what about what’s just happened to the Eagles in this round? 10 years from now they could easily say ‘hey we implemented a mid season trade period to address a situation like this, we’ve just lost 5 of our starting 22 in a week! It’s not fair that our entire season is screwed because of injury and the mid season draft is months away’ Why not have 2 season trade periods? Why not 3? Just leave it up to the clubs when they want to trade? That way, no clubs have to have their season ruined because of injury. It’s the exact same argument (the Eagles case is probably stronger than what McCrae is arguing) and they have more need to be able to trade now than Collingwood will mid-season. I’d also hate to be in a constant cycle of leading up to trade periods. Every week there would be discussions about which teams should go after which players etc. etc. etc.

Silly comments? On the internet? Crazy talk. Game day thread is mostly purely the emotions of what’s happening during the game, often what’s expressed is hyperbolic and in the moment as it all goes so quickly. I feel like the doom posting from some is an underlying genuine fear, that this once in a generation team is all a dream and that any week now, it’s all going to come crashing down and it will be another 50 years before another flag win. Posting (much like the wider internet) gives people the illusion of control. It’s going to be over the top as it’s people posting from emotions which is fine by me as long as it’s not hateful or vitriolic.

He’s one of those players that instinctively knows when to bump players when they’re slightly off balance. A natural footballer.

No Gawn, no Kozzie and a 50 point win against a very good team at the G after they got back in the game from 5 goals down. One of the best wins I’ve seen from us live hands down.

Charlie Spargo should be dropped next week for that WEAK EFFORT

Was at the game last year and Sydney’s kicking and marking tore us to shreds. Took us out of the game aerially all over the ground and their connection from backline to forward line made it so they could go end to end without us touching the ball. Much like last week, they had time and space to execute their skills. We have to be the hunters! Apply pressure for 4 quarters, make them feel like they have no time and hit bloody hard around the ball. One thing you had to admire about hawthorns 3 flag teams, they had a mindset/attitude where they wouldn’t allow themselves to be hunted or physically beaten 2 games in a row. I do believe we won’t be nearly as poor with skills/being fumbly today so I’m not worried about that, it’s coming out and not allowing Sydney to play their way. That’s how we beat them. [censored] go out and smash em Dees, I want to see fire!!!

This is a mauling. Scoreboard doesn’t do it justice.

I bought a couple of Russian Oktava condenser pin mics about 15 years ago for I think $450 for the both of them. Still use them to record with now and they’re probably my favourite microphone, in saying that, I’d be willing to donate them just so we can hear the bloody journalists on the post game interview!

Whoah, 6 years for Hipwood??????? Oh dear
-
Trying to do a good deal for the AFL, haha
-
Ohhhhh yup, you’re right. My bad. Misunderstood extension meant in an already existing year to play out. Thanks for the correction.
-
We need condenser mics amongst the journalists to be able to hear them and dynamic mics for the coaches and players. SM57’s ideally for that 1970s look.

He signed a two year extension just before the season started last year, so he’s up for grabs for 2024 is my understanding.

Every time Dermott Brereton speaks on tv is worse than a thousand Wreck it Ralph’s. I have to mop up the pretentiousness off my lounge room floor every time I hear him on my television. Unbearable.
-
I’d imagine he’ll go to a Vic club for sure, but Brisbane are going to throw a lot at him as Daniher and Hipwood in the same forward line are not going to win them a flag.
-
Will it be Daniher or Hipwood (among picks or another player) that gets traded at the end of the year for Ben King? One of them has to go and if I’m Brisbane, I’m throwing everything I have to get King.

He’s 7cm taller and 2kg lighter than Shane Mumford. And he looks faster and more athletic. Even when Mumford was out of the game, he made sure opposition players were looking for him once they got the ball. I doubt there’s a single player that physically fears Lobb.

Hawkins has been getting goals from clear pushes in the back for a decade. He does it as a forward and in the ruck. The justification is that he’s holding the player from moving back, which would be fine if that’s what he was actually doing, but he moves the player in front of him, FORWARD with his hands. It’s ridiculous.
-
Wrong. Big Girls blouses are useful.
-
Why is pushing in the back in the ruck allowed but other parts of the ground aren’t? Zorko’s free is standard ruck work from throw ins. Happens every game.

The most noticeable thing from the GF for me whilst I was watching it (which I didn’t see coming as Swans have pretty big bodies all over the ground) was Geelong absolutely bulldozed the swans around the ball. Really shook them up and the Swans couldn’t handle the level of physicality. They chit the bed. Would love to see us do that to them again as I don’t think they’re used to being bullied.

It might be a good thing that Gawn is out for 6-8 as we need to come up with different systems without him regardless I.e. if he’s having a shocker in a prelim - we need other avenues. I watched the Brisbane game again and the amount of times I realised that ‘Maxy would take a mark here’ really shows an over reliance and also that he’s arguably the best player in the league, not just the best ruckman IMO. Not sure what that would look like exactly but if we’re a serious premiership contender, over reliance on one player to fulfill a system or team set up has to be overcome. I’d also like Goody to tell Grundy, Oliver, Tracc and Viney - free licence out there. Play like you have nothing to lose and whatever happens, happens. I’ve mentioned it before, but Collingwood are given that licence especially in the 4th quarter and it’s worked for them time and time again. Even when Collingwood lose, there’s never a ‘what if’. Everything gets left out on the field. Jake Bowey also has an insanely high average disposal efficiency of 81.1% (Nick Daicos avg is 76.8% to put that in context), gotta be a way of utilising that skill to be more damaging.
