PREGAME: Rd 01 vs St. Kilda
I’m not surprised, there’s a lot of unknown quantities with us. New coach, new game plan, new midfield group, more reliance on our younger brigade, May’s influence absolutely waned last year but he was still the glue of our backline, Tracc and Oliver were pretty consistent week in, week out (i.e. below their best but still ‘good’) so we knew what to expect by the end of 25. Is JVR dependable as a KPF? Is Petty dependable as a KPD? Lever, Petty, Disco in a backline not working off May? Will the new midfield group gel together from round 1? Forward connection fixed? If not fixed, better? IMO, there’s a lot that needs to go right from so many changes in key parts of the ground. If King has us ready to go and is able to address our previous shortfalls and we win Round 1 then bloody hell my hat is off to him. But I think that is a lot to ask for in one pre-season.

The New Home Base & Training Ground Thread
To your edit - the AFL bought Waverley from the hawks for about $20 mil last year, could be that?

The paddle pop lion look really suits her

Farewell Clayton Oliver
Traccs game was awesome. If he keeps hitting leading targets like he did in that game, he’s going to be incredibly damaging. He didn’t do that at Melbourne with anywhere near the same consistency. I don’t think I saw him hit leading forwards 2-3 times in a single game. On the other hand, to say that could be one of Oliver’s best games, is literally insulting to his earlier career, haha.

NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round
This is what I don’t get. What is the downside of the other teams playing their day games? How is 4 extra day games changing anything?

NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round
Yeah noice. I’d exclude Brownlows personally as Tom Mitchell won that award and he isn’t a shoe shiner compared to Pendlebury. Bontompelli hasn’t won a Brownlow either so it’s a bit meaningless in the larger picture IMO. The X factor is a good one. He might have more X factor. Danger definitely only needs a quarter to completely change a game. And danger might’ve been quicker over 3 meters, but I’ve never seen a player like Pendles be able to evade players that are within a couple of meters from him whilst he’s standing still. He does it multiple time a game even now. I did ask sincerely who was better so thank you for your answer.

It’s totally a spectrum. But for every Daicos ball user, there’s 20-30 congested ball winners.

NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round
Not having a go at you, but this confuses me a little bit. Why is winning the ball the main metric people use to define if a player is good or not? It’s important for sure for a team perspective, but if you have more worth being on the outside and then disposing of the ball (Daicos is probably the best) why does it matter? We won a F load of contested ball and couldn’t do anything with it.

NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round
Agreed. Both teams have crazy skilled players in Saad and Hill, but the criticism of these players is they don’t have composure. Skill without composure and you’re just another player.

NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round
That’s a good way to put it and I agree. I remember Hird had about a 4-5 year run where I’d watch him and he seemed to never make a mistake. I feel like Pendles did that for well over a decade.

PREGAME: Rd 01 vs St. Kilda
I thought the roles reversed, opposed to Lions slowing down. Doggies missed a lot early, Lions scored goals early. Doggies started nailing them and the Lions started missing. Final qtr lions kicked 3.7 and dogs kicked 7.1

NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round
16th season for GCS and 14th for GWS, but they don’t fill small stadiums. Sydney and Brisbane both get good crowds consistently. Does the AFL care about crowd numbers for those clubs? Or do they care more about eyeballs on the tv/streaming? I don’t actually know what metric the AFL concentrates on to determine GCS/GWS being a ‘success’.

Pretty sure Dale either couldn’t hear the umpire or thought he was going to the mark with that 50. Seems confusing between umps and players
