Yet you'll hear the 'real experts' on here try and make any excuse possible to play down what has been fundemental flaw and weakness in our game for so long. And the number one reason we lose games we should win.

Stuff drafting a kid, poach a key forward.

It's both you goose. Clearly. Our method means our players refuse to give the ball to team mates in more dangerous positions which would equate to better looks going inside 50 as well as shots on goal. You can't claim that we lost the game due to a few missed set shots but at the same time say it has nothing to do with method. Because there are missed opportunities at shots on goal in our method as well. Go and look at first crack and the vision that Montagna shows. Every game we play there are countless missed opportunities to change an angle or go inside to a free player which would open up so many opportunities for forward to lead to space and therefore opportunities for shots on goal. It's about honouring those at the right time so that we obviously still play our game plan. But we simply don't do it enough. And we possess players who simply aren't composed enough. You think you're contributing deep analysis when really your summation is that we lost due to a few missed set shots? Righto. Our method creates problems when faced against sides who know how to combat it. We have execution issues and have for a long time. We have a lacklustre and boring forwardline. Etc. The issues are multifaceted. -
What do you meannnnnn. Pickett bumped Smith. His intention was to bump?! Maynard's action was to smother! This place is crazy.
-
Max was superhuman tonight. I'd get Grundy in next week. That's the last game I hope to see from T Mac. Yuck. Max left everything out there tonight. Needs support. Time to just play. Get creative, bring some flair. We're too boring and predictable.

Mate. They're a bunch of criteria made for the most difficult and nuanced game the world has seen. They simply cannot cover every scenario and as we've seen before, they won't. Especially not this incident. Sure they'll be used to get proceedings underway, but as I have said and will say again, common sense will prevail and he will be free to play.
-
We're not far off being unstoppable imo. Tweak our offence. Give up a tad more defensively and I think we'll be golden for the next few years. I think this next off-season needs to be a big one in regards to personnel coming into our forward line and some additions through the midfield. A bit of method adjustment too and a rocket for some repeat bomb it in offenders.
-
As I said. I'll let you bother with the jargon. It'll come down to common sense however and in the end, he will get off. Its cool that you know all the terminology though. Very kewl.

Top post.

Yeh. We'll see. Another consideration in this instance will be Brayshaw's kicking action and follow through. Both players were running forward and had serious forward momentum, Brayshaw really lunges forward after kicking on the run and clearly that adds to the impact whilst Maynard is in the air also moving forward. It's just a seriously unfortunate incident. And I hope Brayshaw recovers fully.
-
People ask why he turned is shoulder mid air... (face-palm). If anyone on here has played any level of football or contact sport for that matter, you will understand that when the body is in a vulnerable position and you have little to no time to think, you're going to brace to protect yourself. He will get off because it will be deduced that he had no other reasonable choice when in mid air. How this gets past people is beyond me.
-
I'll let you talk the jargon cobba. Maynard will be free to play and should be free to play, taking the emotion out of it. (which oddly enough I can do). Carry on.
-
Ahhh but a sling/dump tackle is not a football act anymore is it? And wasn't that what he was ultimately cited for? Even if it is debatable?
-
Maynard and Brayshaw have been mates since under 12's actually and grew up playing footy together. So you and many others on here have NFI of what you're on about. I get people are upset about losing and obviously Brayshaw's injury is massively concerning. But my god there is some massive face-palmary going on in here.
-
You two don't make sense. His intention was to smother. Not to bump. Do you understand the difference? If a player's intention is to execute a football act, but in the process their collision causes a concussion, they are not going to get weeks. (I don't count bumping as a football act anymore btw). It's not careless cause its a football act!
-
My post was actually balanced if you read it. I'm just not a fan of the echo chamber you all exist in. Gets boring you know? And I'll be back here calling you the Nuffy when Maynard is cleared to play. I dislike him as much as anyone, but sense prevails here. Not so much on a Melbourne demons forum post a qualifying final loss. I mean it's no surprise at all that everyone thinks he should get weeks lol. No doubt if it were the other way round, you'd all be banging on about how he should be free to play and that he did nothing wrong! Good to see that name change backfired on you and you've got it for the year, suits you well!
-
The point most people are missing in this is that he was in the AIR. He won't get weeks due to the fact he was in the air and had no reasonable means to avoid contact unlike someone who has two feet planted on the ground.. The intention was the Smother also, not to bump. And his last action was to brace whilst mid air. It's vastly different.
-
Right. So let's run through it. We can both agree that his action first and foremost was to jump and smother the ball? I mean, clearlllly that's what he did. Now tell me what he could do with his body mid air to avoid the contact?

Can't fault our mental toughness, heart and desire to compete. It's admirable for sure and says a lot about how far we've come and the kind of culture we've created. Clearly we're respected. Ultimately we lost the game in a way that has been a trend for how long now? Too long. Years. Oliver is a great example tonight of what too many of our players do. Bomb shallow, high, sometimes long. Just zero composure. That was as close to as the most non-infliential 30 touch game I've seen from someone and he gave away stupid free kicks also. Tom McDonald, wow. Max Gawn is just too good to believe and almost single handedly kept us alive. A pleasure watching him. Brayshaw being subbed out clearly didn't help our cause. But the signs were already there imo. Collingwood were cleaner, tougher and more proactive early and we just couldn't match it. One good quarter is never enough. And for those saying Maynard should get weeks, you have no idea. He jumped in the air to smother. That was the football action. And once in the air, could not do a thing to stop his body colliding into Brayshaw's.. Extremely unfortunate for Gus and Melbourne supporters, but if you cannot see it for what it is, you have a serious Melbourne bias and just completely unreasonable. Some of the comments on here are hilariously embarrassing. Maynard is scum, but he actually did nothing wrong. Let's hope Gus is okay, we can still do some damage although I see some serous holes appearing for us.

The season plays out differently now because of that mistake?! I've never heard so many excuses for a Melbourne loss. But when we win, no matter how or no matter the context, it's because we're the bees knees. We allowed Carlton to get that far ahead. Decision right or wrong is not the point. We didn't play well enough for long enough. And when that happens against sides that are up for the fight, things don't end well. Also. Our defence. You think that we have the best defence? Given the last 7 rounds? You and your assistant constantly make excuses for us when we lose. It's amazing. Seriously amazing. Two more games, how you feeling? We should be peaking I believe. Yes? Our loading period has finished, we play a bottom four side now so I'm imagining that you and the assistant will be confident we'll be winning by 40+ given our talent, age bracket of our best players. The fact we can still finish top 2 andddd we're hitting peak performance?

Has our form been overstated?

Attribute diversity give you a break? But then you say it's fair enough that I think the list isn't right? What? -
Carlton were cleaner and applied more pressure for longer than us. That was the game. Complaining about the umpires is a massive lol. I could count 80 examples of players fumbling, missing handballs, missing kicks, making bad decisions, ball watching. We did that more than them. And they won because of it. @binman and @Binmans PA (lol) Thoughts on the games against Hawthorn and Sydney? Still confident we'll win both? @Binmans PA, love that you'll every excuse in the book to defend a loss! Not just that we were outplayed? Plain and simple? Structure! haha. Carlton were missing about 5 top choice players and their midfield embarrassed us at times.

You failed to highlight where I said they'd win the flag Jaded. I also stated Collingwood have weaknesses as well which you conveniently left out haha. So not only did I not say anything about them winning the flag, I also spoke about them in a negative light. Or was that just you at your alarmist best? At the time of that post, those sides were performing at a much higher level and therefore streets ahead of us. Formlines change over seasons though don't they? How about put me on ignore, might be best for both of us. It's okay for us to have different expectations of our side. Also. How did you measure Clayton's individual game up against that of our side? You must be well and truly baffled that the 'best player in the comp' came back into a side who had won 5 on the trot and then proceeded to lose? Reckon it tipped the balance of our side and affected how we'd been playing as a 'team' in his absence as I suggested it might a while ago? I'll await your response. -
Umpires make bad calls both ways. And we didn't lose the game because of the umpires. We lost because we weren't up to it. Even with a handful of Carlton's best 10 players unavailable. I don't remember anyone saying we were lucky to get the rub of the green against Richmond which arguably gave us a hit of momentum which we took advantage of. Can't have it both ways. We lost because we and choose when we want to play our best footy too often.

Silly billies. It's impossible to talk sense on here. I've never doubted the talent on the list. I've said we need attribute diversity and a better mix of players. Do you see the difference. Talent vs attribute diversity. Don't know how many more times I need to say that before it sticks. I've also never stated that Collingwood would win the flag, but cool. Continue on in your lovely echo chamber you two. -

JimmyGadson replied to At the break of Gawn's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes. Clearly. We're doing enough to win games, as a side with a plethora of talent in their prime should be. But our effort and application and skill execution during games is all over the place.
