Sell out of the car industry. You mean the American mega companies that put their hands out for billions of the publics money over many decades. Are you sure you should not be on a car racing site MFM. As for the wharves, have you ever worked there, I have and it was a bludge and rackets factory. CFMEU-see Dan Andrews and who cares who he barracks for... Out of interest he came and was part of a very capitalist minded business family.

NicNat on Comparisons with Watts
Half forward flank replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just goes to show the majority recruiters lack imagination and are in furious agreement with each other and do not do their homework. Jack showed nothing in his school career other than being taller than his opponents, some ability to do a straight 30 metre lead, take a chest mark and kick straight from 30 metres out. Find some footage and you will see that. Remarked elsewhere that Shifter Sheehan know it all was raving about Jack based on very average footage. No disrespect to Jack as I like him but no 1, no. Its a big if but if we had Nic Nat and Gawn..... -
Petty has the moves to be better than average. Sparrow is young, working hard and learning. OK with the delists .
-
Imagine if our luck finally changed and Jackson and Pickett become stars, Bennell goes on to do what Burgoyne has done at the Hawks.
-
I like the approach. Some switch has been turned on among the coaches and selectors. Much prefer the adventourous approach than to have won this game game with some tried and mostly failed players and then come undone later. Just hope they get a block of games into Jackson, Pickett, Rivers and Bennell and keep the faith. Well done Goody, I have been critical in the past but well done.
-
I also think their is a sympomy of agreement when it comes to many in the recruiting business. I had a contact at a Club for a while and at the time everyone was raving about Scully as a clear number one. Maybe it is just me but I get suspicious when everyone is in lockstep over sommething as speculative of how an 17-18 year old kid with turn out.

I can still recall watching that overated Shifter Sheahan raving about Watts as a generational forward on a Sunday show. And then he put on the footage. Here was Watts, taller than other boys doing simple leads to 30 out from goal with little or no defensive pressure from his opponent. Then shifter said, now look at this, a beautiful kick as well. I just remember thinking everyone is saying he is going to be a star so I hope they are right but he sure only showed an ability to lead and kick against smaller boys for mine.

Same reasoning that I would have applied to the Jolimont park proposal if had been put to me. Or Neeld as coach. I could go on.... -
Sure, won the battle, lost the war. However I stick with the fact WC never got out of second gear. The game was at no stage on the line.
-
Part 11 Coming soon. Goodwin impressed by Richardson......
-
I believe WC never got out of second gear all day. If there was going to be clutch moments Darling and Keneddy would of buried us.

LN without putting pressure on you are the exact sort of person who could be on a committee to add advice to such a project. I know we have to make money but a limited Club hospitality venue run well brings enormous goodwill and add ons to a Club. Smart clubs in the future will use all the labour resources at their immediate disposal.

In truth I did not say, NO. My intent was not to critice your selection ability. However if after a year from hell and an injury recovery period, covid that is our best half back line we will not win finals. Salem is a good average player and massively over rated by some. OMac is a plodder who gets by on the odd good performance. Harmes is not a half back and its true we will have to wait and see but a ridiculous move. Who you replace them with. Well Lever the over rated, at 195cm needs to earn his money in a key post so there is one. Salem gets his spot and Hibberd on one of his last chances.

Totally support your thoughts and believe we need somone with a hospitality mind set to do the basics like sausage sizzles and well as being creative with other supporter events. As example there is opportunity for someone to put on a supporters lunch at the Bentleigh Club for interstate games with big screen viewing.

Very interesting post LN, and I agree with many of your points. The traditional Social Club will not work, but a Community cafe with fairly basic menu, kids friendly should be part of any complex we develop. I worked as a Manager at Carlton Social Club in premiership years, 81-82, the running of which was ultimately taken over by O Briens Catering. Sadly that was the end of the glory days for the Social Club as the corporates did not have the feel for running a footy club social club.

So I need to comment before I comment? Interesting house rules.
-
Maybe, but George do you know how hard Carlton have fought to remain and prosper at Princess park despite continual resident objections for the past 40 plus years. The Princess park residents make the Jolimont residents seem like an amicable bunch.

Sorry Pates but I dont like the half backline

I see I see Brayshaw as the sort of kid at Junior level who had a stronger than average body and a bit of pedigee so always got played in the middle where there are plenty of kicks and attention to be had. I know he had a good Brownlow year and happy to be proved wrong as I know he had the head know but think he could be overtaken this year by others vying for a midfield spot like Sparrow -
Why OD?

Will not work. -
I am sorry DN but, as John kenneddy who created the winning culture at the Hawks that has won them about a dozen flags said," there are only two outcomes in footy, winning or losing and winning is all that counts. The last thing we need in a coach is to be a gentleman.

My criticism of what Richardson said was what he didnt say. I wanted to hear, I have worked on a few areas with him and he has been receptive to some of my ideas, others not so much. Presumebly Richardson is their to offer a perspective as a more experienced coach. Back in the real world of our competitors, image supporters of other clubs if a new assistant/coach advisor said he is happy with what he has seen of Clarko or Hardwick. It is laughable. All I want to hear is that as coaches we have the players and the strategy cherry ripe and ready to give a red hot go.
-
Jeez. Tough on supporters. we are allowed an opinion, or are you saying we should be yes men. By your reckoning we should have been loyal to every coach for the past 56 years until they were sacked. Happy to be proved wrong and I suspect we will have some good wins in the next two seasons but very concerned he does not have the tactical knowlege to take us all the way.
